- Join us on a brand new expedition as we continue our look at Inverted Coasters and the roller coaster history of Giovonola, this time looking at the world's largest traveling inverted roller coaster - EuroStar. A ride that was lost for 8 years.
This ride made by multiple European coaster companies that was bigger than both Batman and Nemesis. A true feat of engineering at the German fair.

Your a time traveller ! 🤣
Hey, did you do an expedition on Knobels? Because if you didn’t, it would be amazing if you did.
I wouldn’t mind seeing an episode for Expedition Cedar Point and that’s Mean Streak from the beginning to the RMC conversion to Steel Vengenence
Vampire at Chessington
I rode this at a fair in Germany in 2007. It was on my bucket list to ride it. The friends I was on the trip with knew I wanted to ride it but didn't tell me we were going to visit the fair it was located at. We went into the fair and I had no idea it was there until we at the top of the lift hill on a Mack mouse we were riding. I couldn't believe it. We rode it while it was raining. It was a damn rough ride but I am glad I got the credit. I only got to ride it once.
I Am Happy That Eurostar Was Saved And Not Scrapped. It's A True Legend.
exactly!
Same, got to ride it once, didnt know if I was moe thrilled that I was riding a ride that would be moved or the ride itself! Ever wonder why fair rides are scary it's cause I worked at one for a few years! YES I WAS A CARNIE FOR THREE YEARS! They DONT PAY WELL, also not sure if it was just the one who payed for the rides that I worked for I also was a lead on several rides after 6 years at a Six Flags theme parks once I moved to the states.... uh the fair's uhhhh " daily INSPECTION?" WAS STRANGLY JUST GET IT WORKING TYPE STUFF! While Six Flags actually had like 4 or 5 actual Engineers per a park these were usually just twacked out individuals fallowing a Ikea like put this part here then move to step two.... I honestly never saw a single person from either of said companies! But yea....
@@kennethwilliams6916 wow makes you think twice... main reason I like Rolling Thunder at 6 Flags NJ was bc it felt like it was going to fall apart on the turns...
They were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they never stopped to think about if they should.
Hahaha yes
And then they actually thought about it and reached the following conclusion.
"Of f**ing course we should."
Well, I think if I trusted any country to dismantle and rebuild such a coaster over and over again, it would be Germany!
i would prefer Bulgaria XD
And then the last place you'd want to see it (well, ride it, anyway): Russia...
I don't care how rough or uncomfortable this is, it's a top 5 bucket list coaster for me.
Thanks for the history of this modern marvel!
It really is!
I'd ride it again any day. It sure was a great ride
Last time I was this early, the corkscrew was the newest thing in alton towers
Ha very early
So in 2013?
@@Gabes1321 1980
That just sounds like a pain to just keep putting it back together/taking it apart. But that's kind of cool that a traveling inverted coaster existed
Right!
We have traveling inverts, NOW TIME FOR TRAVELING GIGAS.
Ha can you imagine
Yes please!
I just envision fleets of 100's of semis hurdling down the highway stacked with coaster parts.
Traveling dualing gigas!
Oh GOD NO
Ok that does look fun to ride (although it will probably be extremely rough). Also can we all appreciate what an engineering a moving rollercoaster (especially one of this magnitude!) is?
Insane right
@@ExpeditionThemePark insane in the membrane even. The logistics of making such a complex coaster movable is crazy
Man, I was 13 years old when I first ride that coaster in 1995 in Düsseldorf... time flies by, still waiting for my first RMC-Ride in my life (I guess in Netherlands 2021).
Greetings from Germany, enjoying every video on your channel (barely comment on ANY video I watch in general!), keep up the good work!
Thank you so much for watching!
Did you do it?
This was such an incredible coaster. One of the most intense coasters I've ridden with other highlights including the overbanked turn out of the vertical loop, an insanely tight turn out of the double-corkscrew and of course that ridiculous final helix. It had such an aura about it and it never failed to get the heart going, even before getting on the train. But yeah, it did end up being REALLY rough, and I have a high tolerance for rough rides.
Yeah such an amazing ride. It may also be the first over banked turn but I couldn’t confirm that
"A little rough to ride" - That's an understatement. I got concussed by that damn thing. TWICE!
From someone with a showman's background I am always amazed at the size of German fair's and the rides
Crazy huge stuff!
Unfortunately times are changing for German showmen as well. Therefore they had to scale down their rides too. Many of the big rides have found their homes at parks all ober the world.
Those days are over...
@@Colaholiker So it's important to enjoy Olympia Looping, Spinning Racer and Höllenblitz as long as we can!
Edit: I almost forgot Alpina Bahn.
@@ClickItYT Absolutely. Once our lives get back to normal and we can enjoy these rides again. I haven't been on a coaster since December 2019 :'(
I live in Hamburg, Germany, and if I knew back then that 2008 was the last chance to ride it here, I wouldn't have missed it 😢 it's also been quite a while we last had Olympia Looping in town. Great research and video! 😃
I was lucky enough to ride Olympia looping In London last year! Thank you
Olympia Looping was a great ride too! I ride it when it was light raining.. sitting in the front row was fantastic but the drops felt like needle stickers.. I love the Olympia ride! Please come back to Hamburg, we miss you!
@@B-M.B Yeah, hopefully it will be travelling for a few more years. And when it's time to settle down, it should stay somewhere in Germany.
Can we get a ten hour video of just you saying Geovanolla? I love it!
Hahaha only maybe you would watch it
This has completely blown my mind. It looks like a B&M style slc that you can move around.
What a video! I like to think I have a fairly decent level of knowledge around most major coasters worldwide, but this coaster is always one that has both fascinated and alluded me for a long time. Top quality stuff here. Absolutely loved that!
Such a neat story. I was so glad to hear you say "and where you can still..find it.....today". Made my day knowing this thing is still out there creating thrills!
Great Vlog, exciting, thank you.
I knew it was too important to ever be scrapped. It will end up a historical engineering feat for sure.
Agreed
Awww thanks for bringing back such a childhood memory of mine. I grew up in Düsseldorf and couldn't wait to ride the EuroStar every summer at Rheinkirmes!
This is seriously such a cool attraction! I loved learning about it!
Thanks for watching !
The theme tune to this channel is so satisfying. Class video as usual
Thank you!
Ahh the nostalgia. This was my very first looping coaster back when it was still traveling in Germany. Thanks for this video and all of the old footage you managed to dig up. If I'd ever get the chance to ride it again in its new location, I would. Maybe just once cause it was kinda rough, but I'd still do it.
Seeing this giant on fairs was a sight to behold. I miss those times a bit.^^
This was really cool to learn about! Thanks, Sam!
Thank you!
How have I never heard of this? B&M inverts are my favorite coaster types I'm shocked I didn't know this existed. Thanks for bringing it to my attention!
Thanks for watching !
This was my very first inverted Coaster 😍 thank you for the video!
Thank you for watching!
Thanks for another great video. Keep it up; your hard work is very much appreciated.
Thank you!
Fascinating video. I had no idea this ride existed. Great work!
Thanks!

Awesome video mate. As always!
Thank you!
I rode it in August 2004 on my Homefair, in east Germany.
Yes, on this time it wars a rough ride, but it was so unique and so forcefull, than anything i knew before. A legend.
Thank's for this Video and the memories.
Great video as always! Never knew about this traveling inverted coaster.
Thank you!
wow this is fascinating! this coaster was at my local fair once in the mid-2000s when i was a small child and i had completely forgotten about it until now! i was way too small to ride it back then but my mum did and really liked it, even though it was rough
Looks like an incredible coaster
But I can’t help but think about the Eurostar high speed train when it comes to its name
Haha all you find searching also
You’re on this channel Too? Man you are a man of many tastes, good ones at that
I just LOVE these videos, thanks so much!
IM SO HAPPY YOU DID THIS VIDEO ITS LIKE YOU READ MY MIND 🥺
Thank you once again for such an amazing video👏
Thank you for watching
Superb video that taught me something I’ve never known. really enjoying the channel- I’ve had no interest for almost 30 years. Can’t wait for lockdown to be over so I can rediscover the passion for rides.
Great video!
Excellent video! This is such a strange coaster that so few people talk about that it almost feels like an urban legend at times. Euro-Star is up there on my list of coasters I hope to ride one day.
Thank you !
I have a vague memory of riding this at what must have been one of its last appearances at the Oktoberfest. Back then I was obviously not aware of its interesting history. Thanks for enlightening me! :)
I loved this coaster so much, it was my first big one i ever rode 😍😍😍
That’s awesome!!
Considering how complicated this ride was to engineer in a method which allowed for transportation and temp install, it's absolutely incredible that it's still around today. You hear stories of all these coasters trying to do things that had never been done before falling apart, falling out of favor, or easily being eclipsed / retired soon after. I did NOT expect to hear that this thing would still be in operation today. That's a damn good run for something that I'm sure many thought was impossible.
Thank you for this excellent video about the 'Eurostar'. For years we had a big rollercoaster competition at fairgrounds in Germany. From the big Schwarzkopf-Coasters only 'Alpinabahn' and 'Olympia Looping' are still traveling. Maybe the largest Indoor-Coaster 'Höllenblitz' too. I hope that we can continue to ride these coaster for a long time. Greetings from Germany.
Yesss!! I’ve always wanted to know about this crazy beast of an invert!
Hope you enjoy!
It was awesome! Your videos are always so informative and done very well!
I'm just amazed on how many coaster manufacturer's worked on this ride.
This was an excellent, and very interesting video! I had no idea that a mobile-invert ever existed!
Thank you!
Great video.
If you ever have to say "Deutsche Mark" again just call it "D-Mark"
I wanna know why I always keep on catching your vids as soon as they come out lol. Where roughly do I live ? Just wondering

A stunning ride to ride and to watch...! Especially from a distance (The sheer flex and movement in the 1st Drop).
But yes I did lots of German fairs back in the day.
And if you missed out then it's a shame... 👌🏻
German fairs are the best !
Sadly I never did Thriller..
I have more rides on Olympia and such rides then I do on some UK park rides..
And that's not a complaint. 😎
I've ridden Olympia Looping and Eurostar (well the train at least, haven't caught up with the coaster), and I can say that a portable coaster can be thrilling without causing a headache. I caught up with Olympia Looping during Winter Wonderland in London and despite the OTSRs, it rode pretty well.
Olympia Looping is amazing!
I've ridden the Eurostar a while back in Stuttgart Germany at the Canstatter Wasen. The moment I saw it I knew I had to ride it. Unfortunately I have never been on a rougher ride before or after. My head was banging left and right between the Over-the-shoulder restraints what made it almost impossible to enjoy the ride. Olympia Looping was a way better experience. Still very impressive that there even is such a thing as a traveling inverted coaster. Thanks for the video.
In the summer of 1995 I was passing through Düsseldorf daily and I stopped by the fairground every day only to finde Eurostar still closed. It finally opened when the fair was almost half over. I remember when the first train finally went through the loop for the first time, bystanders would collectively go "WHOAA!" as most people only THEN realized that the train was hanging below the tracks. Back then the majority of people had never heard of an inverted coaster.
I had my first ride in the front row and it was AMAZING! I had been on Batman (SFGrAdv) two years and Nemesis one year before and I thought they were equal in intensity and thrill.
The ride was intense and had one very rough spot in its first year. The overbanked turn (which I always considered as an inversion) would really smash your head into the OTSR.
The zero-g-roll was amazing, but not as floaty as on the B&M inverts. Due to the space restrictions, the zero-g- had to be significantly shorter than the "original" and it had to enter and leave the element with a curve, which made the roll extremely disorienting.
The only "problem" in the layout was the need for two long block-brakes which divided the experience into 3 different action moments. Where Batman and Nemesis where non-stop action, you would have these breathers on Eurostar.
In later years the block brakes would almost stop the trains and it would really kill the fun.
Especially that final helix was extremely strong and insane when the train would hit it at full speed. It was so close to the ground and surrounded by all those support beams and it would convince you that it would rip your shoes off.
It was a coaster that needed to be ridden in the front row.
Love hearing your experience with the ride!
Wow, most impressive for a traveling coaster. A purpose-built permanent installation of this (giving a smoother ride) would be awesome to experience.
A feat for sure !
Very interesting video...thanks... :-)
Thank you!
I'd love to hear from the people who travel it. Imagine having to dismantle and reconstruct so frequently.
must be a interesting life!
@@ExpeditionThemePark indeed! They must get down to a fine art.
It sounds great. I never expected this coaster to have these stats because it doesn’t look so great in any POV I have ever seen. Must be because of the layout.
Was my first big coaster! I sneaked to our funfair with 5 Mark in my pocket, only to ride this beauty!
Oh god, watching those guys constructing the coaster with no hard hats and walking under a suspended load gave my site supervisor mind chills.
Me as a german citizen, EUROSTAR was and still is the best coaster-ride to find on a fairground.
Living nearby Hamburg, I was able to ride that one thing of a kind many times. And okay, it was quite rough especially sitting in the last row of the train, but the speed and G-Forces were outstanding. Glad to hear this masterpiece of coaster is operating again.
WOW, I had no idea that there was a inverted travelling roller coaster, even though it's not a inverted roller coaster it reminds me of the biggest traveling roller coaster in the states called the dopple looping. Would be cool if you do a video on that one, researching online it looks like it was sold to a park in Pakistan but status & whereabouts are unknown. Thank man, awesome video as always
Merry Christmas expedition theme park
Merry Christmas!
Wow. Now that’s impressive ! I had no idea that this was even possible. Let alone someone actually made one.
It’s true!
Best coaster channel most entertaining and intersting
Thank you!
Thankyou fabulous 👍😊
Thank you!
i love logistical nightmares!!!
Haha right!
I actually enjoyed this ride everytime it appeared on my local fair ground. It was around 9 Euro per Ride but absolutely worth it. Yes it was a bit rough but the G-Force on this thing was insane. I was really sad when i got the news we only get Alpina Bahn (now we dont have a "real" Coaster anymore) from now on. Thanks for this video, brought back some cool memories :)
Rode it 1999 in Bremen (Germany). Loved it 🙈
I love how round that vertical loop is
Right!
I am happy that I could ride it in 2008 in Hamburg. This Ride was the greatest experience so far at the Hamburg Fair since then. The following rollercoasters there were were just boring ("Teststrecke") and a sore to the eye.
Amusement part always gives me this giddy feeling and has for years. I feel like a little kid again. The only other thing that can do this for me is music. You know bands like Delta Parole, that music takes me back the most.
Looked pretty amazing
Yeppp
I rode this ride back in 2005. It is up today the roughest ride i rode. Honestly I was happy when it finished because I couldn't really enjoy it while being just busy not to bang my head too much on the shoulder restrains. You can compare the roughness to Wildcat in Hersheypark but imagine having multiple inversions und tight shoulder and head restrains.
i want to see more expeditions based on transportable and traveling rides!
I will do some more!
@@ExpeditionThemePark cool! Merry Christmas!
I got to ride this the first year it was in operation while on vacation in Germany. I forgot about it and then saw this video in my feed
I didn’t even know there were traveling looping coasters 😯 that’s insane!
Crazy right!
The Olympic Looping coaster usually does London's Winter Wonderland
@@colinmcnair1259 I've never seen a large traveling coaster at all! I don't think they're common in America, or at least not on the west coast. I've only ever seen those little kiddy coasters with a dragon or a worm. I tried googling it but everything but what I'm actually looking for comes up. Sad day
The names associated with this roller coaster are nuts. It's like a who's-who of roller coaster history.
welp, this is now my #1 bucket list coaster!
right!?
you sound like you speak german, im impressed.good video!
I learnt some German at school but not much!
It’s mind blowing how many times they had to take down and rebuild that coaster.
I was on this Coaster 5 Times when it was in Stuttgart on the Volksfest. Wasen 🖤 It was so amazing
Nice ! What did you think
@@ExpeditionThemePark what I think? I will never forget this Ride. Now it’s somewhere in Russia 😩😩😩
This may have been suggested before... but in The Netherlands we are still grieving for Land van Ooit. You can find some stuff on youtube, but their concept was really nice. An old castle was bought to become the center of a theatre based theme park, where all employees lived in this (kids) fantasy styled fairy tale. With giants, and knights and a royal family and everything. Not much 'rides' but plenty of activities.
They went bankrupt when a second park in Belgium failed to attract enough visitors and the park is now for sale I believe.
Will look into it!
Merry Christmas 😊❤🙏♥️☃️🎄🎅

Imagine being done building that thing and having a bolt left over lmao
Definitly wanna ride this one even if its relly rough, travelling invertering coaster? Are they insane lol must have been super hard to design

I road the Texas Tornado, at Astroworld, back in 1999, which was Schwarzkopf's traveling coaster Thriller. I found it to be awesome.
I would love to ride this as well.
Amazing story, i don't know how this ride mustve been but Black Mamba is an awesome ride, and also gives some amazing G-forces in the end of the ride and it feels like ur never know what's coming on it. For me it's the best inverted coaster ive been on and if u say this Eurostar is larger, longer and has more G forces than that's really impressive even when it would'nt be a traveling coaster.
A ride like this has absolutely no practical reason to exist, but we should all be glad it does
An icon!
really quite amazing when you think of it...German & Swiss engineering at its finest!! I wonder if there’s a sort of shock absorbtion system by the wheel, sort of like a skateboard bushing or the air shocks that are in the front forks of mountain bike wheels...
For some reason the track layout reminds me a lot of Vekoma’s Blackout/ Fire Whip (now in Beto Carrero World, Brazil) specially the two first elements after the lift hill
That was awesome/
The good old time. I’ve been on Euro Star e few times. There is a scene from my hometown in Germany in the video.

Haha best way!
I believe I seen this topic may have been covered in another video but the first suspended coaster was called Top Gun at Paramounts Great America.

right?!
The amount of disassembly/reassembly on something like this just sounds totally insane. Especially when the supports were literally finished off by a people from a division from a company that went bankrupt. I guess it's not too hard to clean up or replace whatever was being done there. Though, admittingly, that is what makes it look transportable.
I know I never did and will definitely now never get to ride this, but this versus SLC's...at least, this is unique, if it can't or can beat out a standard SLC's efforts to murder you. Maybe before the refurbishment period or current rebuild.
Also, I don't find it so much a shame there isn't more of something like this traveling-I mean good god, look and see how awful the pinfari invert-basically knocking off an SLC (days b4 golden horse+etc in china) is a disaster. However, this design is so cool looking and solid in many ways you wonder why Gertsauler and Mack don't try to offer something like this, ESPECIALLY because Intamin ones are just really expensive and SLC days are kinda over for new ones built but also usually awful.
P.S. I guess if someone wants used or inverts that take up little room second hand, they can try getting the one in kuwait that's sitting but not operating, and grab diavlo from tobu zuu given how downhill that place is clearly going.
I just like the opening sentence of this video
