I did something similar to this, I was actually at work and halfway through my shift delivering pizzas. I came across a dog some sort of Shepard mix. Unfortunately I wasn't able to do anything at the time and felt really bad. It gave me a lot of anxiety, well after work (6:30 PM) I rushed to the store bought 6 slim jims and raced over to where I last saw the dog and to my surprise he was still wondering around the same general area I found him earlier.
I got out of my car and sat on the ground, at first all he would do is bark at me, he did that for a good 15 minutes.
I started to throw pieces of jerky at him and he started to eat them, it took me almost an hour and a half to get him to finally get within touching distance from him. I noticed he had a collar on him, so I instantly became excited. After another 30 minutes he finally started eating out of my hand. Then shortly after he let me pet him and allowed me to read his collar. His name was Oscar. At this point it was almost 8:00 PM. I ended up calling the owners and they told me that they were both still at work.
I offered to take him home with me until they got home, and they could pick him up at my house. They agreed, and I coaxed Oscar into my car and I drove him home with me. At around 9:30ish a lady came to my house. I handed Oscar to her. He was so ecstatic to see her, he went crazy. Turns out Oscar had been missing for 6 months.
After Oscar calmed down, he turned around, and walked towards me, so I sat down to pet him and he laid in my lap, and cried while wagging his tail😢 Guess that was his way of saying thank you? I couldn't help but get choked up😢
She offered to pay me, I kindly declined. I simply couldn't accept money from her. I told her if it was my dog, I would hope someone would do the same for me.
She said thank you one last time wished me a goodnight, and I did the same.
I know this story is kinda long, but I wanted to give every detail on what happened, as it was a really touching moment for me, as well as for Oscar and his family.

What amazes me most is that like 9/10 times the leash goes on, most dogs just calm right down. Like they remember "oh ya, I'm supposed to be a pet!"

Yes, they are. It's a nice sentiment of yours, but like it or not, after centuries it's natural for domestic dogs as well as cats to be pets. These animals even developed instinctive behaviors just to please, seduce and in general, get something from humans. Not to mention there are dog breeds, including the kind of breed of the dog in the video, who would simply not survive (long) in the wild.
Being a pet does not mean a dog cannot be loved or do what they want to do in a healthy context.

I don't see dogs as pets more like a living beings waiting for a opportunity to be adopted you can adopt a child as you would a dog but you won't consider your child as a pet.

The part about her being afraid of men just broke my heart. My Catarina is also afraid of men, but she is getting better. Saigon is a sweet girl and I'm so happy she is now safe in a new home with loving people.

Nova Sol Im pretty sure if I started bolt gunning peoples dogs in the head the same like we do to animals we eat that everyone would start coming after me. Maybe not you, but most people care about animals, people dont like seeing animals hurt but thats exactly what has to happen to make your bacon eggs sausages and hamburgers. There are vegan versions of most foods these days so there is really no need to kill anymore. Im trying to spread compassion to one another, why would anyone want to silence someone for that?
