Agreed with Eric, capitalism is by nature profit-driven. When we look more deeply into the companies within the system, the companies decision based on market factors as well as competition, there is no way for any CEO of a company to make a costly socially responsible non-profit decision in the long run before the company makes a lot of profit.
The government requires making rules and regulations to create a fair playing field for companies to compete in a socially responsible way. And organize the government spending to lead the focus into the required area. The capitalist government that highly influenced or captured by the big business simply cannot do it.

The lady in blue was offended. She felt the need to state she's not naive and she thinks a lot. It's a defensive reaction when someone feels stupid about themselves. There's not enough clarity in her logic. She almost equates pollution with socialism as she brought up Shanghai smog and Russian lake polution. She also implied high moral standard and a care for the eninvronment comes from a capitalist society. These are just irrelevant.

When you want to transform capitalism to a “conscious capitalism“, it’s no longer capitalism as it is. When you keep asking the government to provide incentives to solve these problems while asking for lower and lower taxes, this is like where the fed is now (negative rates). Society end up subsidizing businesses to fix problems they cause with no money left for other civil (socialist) issues. The see the fear of even mentioning socialism or rejecting public/private ownership is keeping us from thinking outside the box. We’ll still end up talking about this same issues in a decades time because we’re too stuck on certain ideology.

Personal opinion: Many issues that we are dealing with today, such as the pandemic and environmental issues, are urgent and widely influential. Therefore, there needs comprehensive, long-term, and flexible strategies; and there needs a society to efficiently enforce those strategies.
China was not the only nation in history achieved such society. In many ways, I think there is many similarities between today's China and FDR's USA, such as people are more responsible to others. Looking back into history, there are many failed examples of socialist society, capitalist society, totalitarian society, and democratic society...No matter what name they called themselves, a common phenomenon of these failed societies is that they all abandoned their public interest, and allowed the society's strength to work for a small group's personal interest.
I have lived in China for 17 years and the US for 12 years. I used to prefer capitalism and liberalism, but now I am more intending to paternalism and socialism. I think a good effect of socialism is that people are more likely to consider their responsibility to the society rather than their own wealth. I believe if we cannot value others' benefits as equally important or even more important than our own, we will not only lost our motivation to become political rational people, but also achieve a polarized society rather than the true democracy.

This kind of argument is meaningless. The world is always dualist approached. We need both competition and cooperation, as well as individualism and collectivenism, capitalism and socialism. Principle is not that complicated to catch. The difficulties are just those resistance who generate to maintain their owned interests forever. China is moving on a right track. State buys back the major existing interests as public infrastructure from private owners via delivering potential wealthy future for them to explore. China is actually a socialism based capitalism. It acts like making a big combo pizza, the flat bread base is mainly made of state owned enterprises, and private business seem like the various stuffs on the base and government acts as the cheese.

Primary commodities always the same, only speculating, short selling up & down like a yoyo.
2ndary commodities, plants, factories, machineries are mainly in China or Asia, These are the real capital which need the primary commodities which are also real capital but its price dictated by the manufacturers in Asia which in turn depends on how the American troops in more than 800 bases around the world to "maintain peace" & "stable" regimes in Africa, Mid East & Latin America
There for I'd call they are the "bondist". they're selling & purchasing BONDS or "debtist" since bond is debt. All they do is manipulating debts. They're thriving on debts. So
BONDISM is my new term for a new school of economics. If you speculate Bit coin I will call you a Cloudist, since your wealth is in the cloud.

Oh hush, or your rant might wake the Western leftists who hated their capitalist roommates so much they started sleeping in their bed. To you know, keep an eye on the evil evil capitalists. While they slept. Under the same covers. But seriously, nice post. It's just so frustrating how baizuo keep trying to "defeat capitalism" by "understanding capital better than capitalists" while repeatedly betraying the real average Joe of society in practice or rhetoric.

The lady in blue reflected the capitalism leadership reacting the problem. She just saying she thinking a lots as excuse, but she never find a solution so ever to fix the problem. Basically, she just saying she care they are trying to fix, but the reality is she do not know how to fix the real problem, close the eyes and saying I care, I care, ....but never ever fix the real problem. It is a deeper bullshit. The reality is never fix at all. Capitalism country need a politic change I guess if they do not change, the people will start a hot politic revolution for future. Otherwise, capitalism like CEO never think about this question at all. The capitalism leadership short intelligent and courage. Capitalism CEO take advantage about those bullshit political environmental.

In last century, how to connect mankind and share common ideas safety, fair, justice, equality. I think capitalism was doing really good in post world war 2 period. But unfortunately after Thatcher Reagan new liberalism become popular, capitalism hijacked western political society. In 21st century, we were suppose to focus on develop our planet, But sadly there are war after wars happened in Middle East and Africa. These wars created giant companies in US but not even a cent goes to American people... So there is no hope for business leaders to build our world better, unleashed capital should be bring back on to right track again... Finally we need a hero.

like a old saying in USA (《spider man》):with great power comes great responsibility. we all know government is more powerful than any company, government is the most powerful organization in the world..
so the responsibility of make the country better, must depend on government, the responsibility of make the world better, must depend on some top powerful governments like USA China Japan German .
depend on company or CEO? you must be kidding.
yes , if some company grow very big very powerful more than government...well, it is possible(but very very small). but it would be a totally dictatorship because in the law, company has no responsibility for republic, but government has

to me , the way or system that choose president in USA, has a very big problem. how could the system let such a selfish guy trump become president? a good system should only let good leader become president, agree?
so the system in USA must be improve or the trumps will become president again and again.. and people suffer...

      并不是,而是李先生第二段论证非常有特点,非常针对valerie女士。同样先引用纽约时报新闻,同样从环境问题入手,同样引用了friedman的名言论证自己观点,最后针锋相对回应ceo们解决不了问题。
