During which time, the UK government had already been operating as a democracy for 10 years since 1832 when she took over Hong Kong. Within the 156 years of ruling under UK, the Hong Kong government concentrated the power under the governor who in turns appointed all of the executives in both the legislature and the executive councils. The governor was always appointed by the UK government. UK never granted Hong Kong people the choice to directly elect their leaders. It was actually under the Chinese ruling that the people started to have a choice of indirectly elect their leaders. I need a Hong Kong person to explain to me why the differences in social protest under different bosses.
