- A review and ride on the Varla Pegasus City Commuter escooter.
After an overview of the scooter I set off riding through the Garrison Crossing, and north up through Chinatown and the University of Toronto's St George Campus. I then finish by going up a steep hill on Poplar Plains.

Hi Johnny! Thank you for the escooter ride tour around downtown Toronto it was lots of fun! Nice video commentary as well. Have a great Thursday everyone!
Keep more e-scooter vids coming. I can learn from you.
Varla has updated the Pegasus with a new model now.
- From 8 inch solid tires to 9 inch tubeless
- Improved folding mechanism
- New fenders
- Better water proofing on cables
And you are right about the single/dual motor thing. Running single motor puts more stress on the rear controller as it has to do all the work. Lets say you needed 20amps to cruise at 20kmp instead of 2 controllers doing 10 amps each you have 1 doing 20amps.
I can't find any info on this new model, care to provide a link? Cheers!
Enjoyed this ride, passing St George TTC where the pedestrian offered to pause after looking up from cell. One is always tempted to not give a pedestrian the benefit of the doubt if they have their head down into a cell phone while leaping off a sidewalk, but the best approach is to stop as you did. Always like seeing the corner of Davenport & Dupont, yeah it's ugly but it's on the cusp of great areas to the East and North of there ... and is where I once lived.
Nice day for walk 😊
I have a g30lp, this would definitely be a nice upgrade but I already feel a bit guilty not riding my acoustic bikes for exercise as much.
This eskooter its awesome I love it do you prefer this over the Segway ninebot max ? Cool vid as always 👍
good morning everyone
Excellent review!! I didn’t know these came with a steering damper, which is a game changer eliminating the dreaded “speed wobbles” that you may get on other scooters. Are you able to adjust the damper stiffness?
No you can't, but it does mean it's stable enough to hand signal turns lol
I was under the impression these scooters were illegal to ride in Toronto?
Uhhh, i need to learm how to ride those
18:33 the only thing he did wrong was go on the sidewalk. There's absolutely zero reason for a cyclist to have to stop at a red light like that where there is zero chance they could cause an accident.
Well he was also wrong to jump the queue at Dundas & Spadina... and he ran a red while people were crossing... and then went on the sidewalk. Please tell me again he's not an asshole? 🙄
Sorry Johnny, maybe you're getting paid to promote these things but there's really no place for these on our streets, not on sidewalks, bike lanes or roads. It would be better if they would just go away.
So is there also no place for ebikes? 🙄
How are escooters any different? They can be ridden in exactly the same manner.
Affordable personal transportation (and public transit) is the way forward and these are part of the solution... car dependency is the problem. The more options people have that don't involve cars the better for everyone.
It's hypocritical to embrace bikes and ebikes but draw the line at escooters which provide a much needed affordable means of transportation that can actually be brought into a number of buildings sparing them from the rampant thievery that goes on with bikes. That's why they're so popular with delivery drivers too. I've yet to hear a single intelligent argument against them that also doesn't apply to bikes/ebikes etc...
No place for them?? That’s a strange and very generalized statement without any merit or context.
It‘s not about vehicles, it‘s about people not behaving correctly. If more people would drive like Johnny there‘d be less accidents.
Well I wasn't paid to promote it...
but what could possibly be your logic here that wouldn't apply to every other device people use to get around? I actually feel safer on my scooters than my bikes.
