    Penn Jillette is one half of the magic duo Penn and Teller, who have the longest running show in the history of Vegas. Bill tries his best to get magicians' secrets out of Penn, and they discuss the love of humans vs. animals, the magic trick "blood from a stone," libertarians and seat belts, Penn being in the “nut chair” on Politically Incorrect, Bill’s opening joke on the Jerry Lewis telethon that almost got him cancelled, the problem with the brains of young people, Penn on hopping trains as a young man, when Bill was a nanny, and much, much more.

    • @cameronwitmer
      @cameronwitmer Před 8 dny +5

      I witnessed Penn and Teller perform a trick similar to the one Bill describes only a million times more bewildering.
      I was in the audience, but it was 2012 so my memory isn’t sharp; still don’t have the foggiest clue as to how they pulled the trick off. It had to do with massive encyclopedias, text books, dictionaries, etc from various periods of history that penn and teller have never seen or read and handed out to audience members at random. Penn was able to guess specific details about the page each audience member opened at random. The randomly selected participants were completely dumbfounded. Perhaps they weren’t so random but it sure seemed that way to me (they arranged some kind of proof of the “innocence” of the randomly selected participants but I can’t remember what it was).
      I think this is why Penn was trying to be careful about how he discussed this trick bc it is the trick that most bamboozled me to this day.
      But yeah for a guy who constantly shits on the existence of God, which is not a “stupid” idea by any means, Bill’s inability to imagine how a tv psychic might have pulled off a parlor trick, is just laughable.

    A lot of psychics can size up a person, middle age, Italian, must know a Frank or Mike, bet her dad had a heart attack. It isn't that simple but a magician talked about how you learn body language, what is most common and if doing something like a "reading" how to get info without actually asking. It is complicated how many do their tricks and fascinating. They have people that are working for them that are guests, that question others, people in the lobby, microphones picking up conversations. I've read so much about how they do things, it's scary.

Cold reading done by very crafty psychic will usually flop from time to time, they would show videos of usually successful magician blundering and grasping. If he gets a couple of hits people forget the mistakes. Even if he can't rescue one show, it was "just a bad day" and he'll be fine. But then using confederates, researcher that's viewing the show and passing tips etc, the hitrate can go from good to "OMG maybe its real".

    After watching this I see a new side of Penn's disposition. When he was younger, he always came across to me as an angry atheist that was borderline arrogant because he seemed irritated with people that believed in a higher power and seemed to categorize them as ignorant by talking down to their beliefs. You could never argue the fact that he was a very intelligent guy. It seems now since he has grown older, gotten married, and had kids he has become a better man, a seasoned professional and much more patient guy... His level of calmness and gentle suggestions toward Bill's questions and curiosities blew me away... I love that Bill can never hide his "I call bullshit on that" attitude especially when he's high... I also love the fact that they both now humbly and humanely admit and say in the name of science being uncontroversial that they just don't know... I have close industry friends that know them both well, and adore them...This was a great interview between two intelligent friends that embrace logic, are still amazed at the unknown, and I love the fact that Penn is continually searching for answers. Penn's now soft spoken patience and solemn kindness toward Bill during some of his "Billism moments" in this interview was great to watch!!! You had me as a viewer at hello guys... Thanks Gents...

    I accompanied a friend one afternoon before going out to a slaughterhouse where his company had a contract building additional offices. The shift manager gave us a tour of the facility and I believe he didnt consider we never been inside of the actual plant. Its where we saw and heard and smell some of the most unforgettable images, as we saw living cattle being processed and it was pretty astonishing. All day and all night. My personal opinion from my observation I saw some of cattle as they filed into maze before they receive the " knocker" they actually resigned knowing their fate they even sensed they were going to their death. I only mention this because ironically it happened last week and the intro brought it back not that left after just seeing this .

      People like the guy that comes out at the Streisand show do the pre-show work like Penn said. as soon as you start to wonder how the medium gotten that person’s mind, you’ve lost the plot. They’re never in their mind. They get that information beforehand without the persons knowledge, thereby not requiring someone to be an actor or they use well documented techniques to draw information out of the person once they start interacting with them. The whole thing is done like Jeopardy. The medium gives information and the mark shoehorns into relevance.
