HODLing is more than just closing your eyes and white-knuckling it until CoinMarketCap turns green. There are two main reasons you’d want to never sell your crypto. One, you believe in how the project will come to define the future of the global economy and currency. And two, you want money. As much of it as you can get.
But hold on.. Because it’s too easy to yell HODL! and dollar-cost-average! and buy the dip!
It’s never that easy in practice.

one thing he forgets is that consistent rebalancing is a taxable event (short term cap gain) which means you’re paying 40% after each trade, unless you are living in switzerland. which makes hodl the superior strategy in most countries.

Great video - great content & structure - really well done. Pro and thanks for the strategy! I considered this...I still look for outsized gains instead of security of stablecoins but I slowly started testing some out. For some reason even though this does sound like the smartest way to keep investing in crypto when you're happy with a projects performance...to convert/trade/swap your crypto into stable-coins means you have sold..so it goes back to the initial point of your video - Never sell your crypto.
I agree! It's a healthy investment strategy to rebalance your portfolio every once in awhile but you'd have to consider platform fees, taxes, etc.

It's very easy to HODL. For the stocks/coins in which the fundamentals give you a positive outlook for the long term, just don't think of your positions in terms of dollars. I have 150 SOL, not $15k. This doesn't change, the current market price is irrelevant.
I work. If I need money for anything, then this is how I get it.
If the fundamentals haven't changed, then it doesn't matter if the current market value of some of my investments is down (even if that's 90%). I am not planning on touching that for several years. And even then I would only be pulling out a small percentage so I can still take advantage of the fact that X% is entirely dependent on the reference value -- i.e. 10% of 100K is only 10K, but 10% of 1M is 100k

I only started to buy crypto this year and I have been doing constant mix. I got 70 in cryptocurrency and 30 on stable coin. Just made sense to have stable coin when the market is down. I also stake my largest bag XRP and ADA.

Definitely agree here. For example, I'm not buying something for $2 per coin, and go up to $100,and keep holding it until it drops down to $20 or $40 per coin. It was just an example.

I personally don't plan on selling my Crypto rather to leverage interest free crypto backed loans to use the value of my investments and not lose exposure to the market.
@Alexander Fleming I don’t know about interest free but MELD will allow loans for etc, btc, and cardano later this year. I think block fi might be and option and coinbase too for btc.
@Alexander Fleming There's currently a protocol called "Liquity" which allows you to borrow interest free loans by putting up ETH as collateral. I think this is the biggest 0% interest protocol so far, but I expect it to eventually be available for a lot of different cryptos.

I have one account I have hodled doge, and one where I have dollar cost averaged. The one I hodled has been at a loss for most of a year. Where the one I have DCA I have quadrupled.
About yearn and abracadabra my concern is if there a bridge it could be susceptible to hacks like the recent ronin hack... I havent done a dive into abracadabra but it would be my concern..thoughts?

Max - It's not Bitcoin Gravity - It is the fact that the exchanges base their liquidity on Bitcoin and they measure the altcoins in terms fo Bitcoin hence the coupling. Please do a deep dive on the exchanges/book orders and you'll see. Imagine if Apple's stock was based on Walmart's stock price, people would think that's crazy. Yet, that is how the crypto market is set up in terms of Bitcoin and altcoins.
Exchanges need to base their liquidity on a stable coin, dollar, or euro. It's not Bitcoin gravity it is Bitcoin linkage. It's not right. It made sense when it was only Bitcoin. Not now, since we have altcoins.
I really like your videos. Looking forward to the day when people start shining the light on how book orders work and the Bitcoin linkage.
I love Bitcoin, but this is proof that predictions are dumb, the price isn’t going to $200,000 this year. It might even be below 50k by the end of 2022

While balancing, the transaction will incur fees but that's not the main issue. Some countries tax daily traders and tax is dependent on the price of the sold coins. So, robo balancers may be risky if crypto market drops all of a sudden.
I agree, it is a great strategy but you'd have to consider platform fees, taxes, etc.

You were searching the anti-btc and it is BTCDOWN :)
But, I've run the numbers, it fails to profit on downtrends with 50/50. However with 30/70 (down/up), it performs better on downtrends as well. Wdyt?
Also another alternative to anti-btc is borrowing BTC. But I'm not sure about that since borrowing also charges interest.
Initially, I really thought you are referring to a Pionex bot then I realized it's the leverage tokens BTCUP/BTCDOWN from Binance!
I did a quick search:
BTCUP aims to generate leveraged gains when the price of Bitcoin goes up
BTCDOWN aims to generate leveraged gains when the price of Bitcoin goes down.
As for your question, I will have to look further into this!
@@MaxMaher I've run the numbers again. For previous tests I only compared rebalancing strategies among themselves.
However, for uptrends and long-term (1-2 cycles), hodling beats rebalancing by far.
For rebalancing to keep up, market either should be very very volatile or beginning and ending prices should be close.
In these cases, GRID BOTS performs much better than rebalancing. I am still searching for widespread-well-performing grid bots.

There is a difference between selling to time the market and selling for a loss to offset gains from other assets. I am selling BTC at a huge loss this year to offset about $15k of TSLA gains. I will turn around and buy back into BTC and TSLA, since the wash sale rule doesn't apply to gains on equities and crypto isn't a security and isn't subject to wash sale rules. This isn't always advantageous, but getting to take the TSLA gains for zero taxes to buy back into both holdings for long term essentially gives me that $15k for zero taxes and let's me continue to hold by buying back in. Long term I believe I'll have much higher capital gains on these two assets where I'll just have to suck it up and pay on whatever I liquidate, but right now offsetting the gains and losses is a big plus.
So I've got a question...** 9:35 ** Within DEFI is there a protocol where I could take my Yield bearing collateral and re-exchange it for USDC without closing the contract? Or is MIM basically the best / only option?

the problem with rebalancing portfolio is if one of the asset goes to 0 you're technically supposed to keep rebalancing untill you lose everything. No matter how small your allocation is, you will lose everything rebalancing into an asset that goes to 0.
The goal is to NOT make it 0, better risk management by bringing your portfolio back to the desired asset mix.
