  • installing cat cams stage 2 camshaft in my b200e engine, volvo 245. this is the largest camshaft they make for the b230 engine ( heads are the same on b200e and b230) before you need to install an adjustable cam gear and valve springs.
    vehicle is stock engine wise apart from side pipe and viscose fan delete. milage is 170k miles.

    Cam added about 12hp...cat cams claim 10 to 15hp as a straight install so seems on the money.
    Cam is of no use on a automatic car as power band now doesn't start until 4k and ends at 7k.

    Thank you for taking the time to show the plots. I have a B200F and your 7901403 cam is too high revving for me. The similar H, K and KG Trimning KG004 cams are standard fare for early B23E 240 GLT.
    Anyway, at least I now know I'm looking at a 791402. I suspect the KG001 may still put maximum torque around 4500 rather than closer to 4000 which I hope for.
    BTW, milling the head down should give better results across the board.

    what exhaust setup are you running specifically? (if you could link the parts or mention them that'd be great!) sounds nice and throaty. My 240 wagon has a side exit with just the cat installed but lately its just becoming too much and I wanna add an additional piece to silence it a little bit but not have it sound like it has a cherry bomb or have a similar rasp to a modified honda. I'm also hoping to upgrade from my B cam to a KG003 cam soon once they come back in stock so I can have a bit more power while hopefully keeping my B23F non interference but sounding cammed asf. Love your wagon and how clean it looks!

    • @garethod1634
      @garethod1634  Před 2 lety +1

      My car has no cat from factory and the exhaust is a standard one cut up and welded back together so it would exit where I wanted. It's using just the mid box. However it is very loud which might not come across in the video, long journeys hurt my hearing.

    so this is like a higher duration H cam then? because the lift is almost identical but dur is less at 272dur in and 268exaust lift 12mm/11.5mm and 109 deg lobe angle.
    also not sure about the k-jet but these cams like more timing, my lh2.4 240 B230fx pulled stronger at mid rpm with a H cam and a ignition chip for advancing the ignition timing and curve than it did stock with a VX cam that is meant to pull at those rpm

    • @garethod1634
      @garethod1634  Před 2 lety +1

      I really need to fit and dial in the nuke cam pulley I bought to try and increase the low down pick up. As the A cam the engine had definitely pulled much better below 4k rpm. Sadly haven't really used the car much since the cam was fitted due to work and covid.

    • @garethod1634
      @garethod1634  Před 2 lety +1

      Vehicle has no ecu as it's k-jettronic.
      Power will always vary run to run by a few horsepower, nothing was changed, just a power run to see what the new baseline would be.
      Most likely reason for the small increase would be that the gearbox and diff oils were getting warmer and drag was deducing.

      You will need to shim the camshaft to get the correct valve clearance but other than that it goes straight in and works fine.

    • @garethod1634
      @garethod1634  Před 2 lety +2

      They are 16inch by 7.5 steel rims in volvo correct centre bore and pcd, offset is 45 so the wagon has large spacers on. They come from a Citroën dispatch van...Peugeot boxer van is the same vehicle so would fit. The tyres are 205/45/16 but next time I'd probably fit a 215 or 225 tyre.
      But if you're in the states then these vehicles were never available stateside.

    • @garethod1634
      @garethod1634  Před 3 lety

      It will fit. But as stated in the video you'll lose power by quite a bit under 4k, so as long as revving to 6.5k is something your happy with it should be fine.
      Definitely no good for a automatic car though due to valve overlap and torque loss.

    Is there a benefit to deleting your fan?

    • @garethod1634
      @garethod1634  Před 2 lety +1

      A permanent engine driven fan takes far more engine power to spin than you get from the occasional alternator load that an electrical fan makes. Also the engine heats up faster. And the engine is quieter as the don't here the fan spinning. You only really need the fan now and then.
      There's a reason all modern vehicles dropped engine driven fans.
      But saying that it really doesn't make a huge difference haha. But every little helps in a slow car.
