when i tried to put my cat in the carrier for the first time she couldnt be tricked. I put food in and she went but kept half of her body or tail outside so she could run away when i close the door. Shes way too smart i had to wait until i could comfortably hold her and put her manually in the carrier (first time i had to go to the vet to microship her i had to cancel the appointment cause i coudnt get her in. (that was a month after i adopted her so we still had to work on trust, now i can easily put her in the cage but she wont go herself)

Instead of walking my cat just lays down on the grass by the gate. It's like the grass outside is much comfier than the one inside. We stay like that for around 10 minutes or until I start to shiver from the cold.

My heart goes out to you. My cat, Oreo, recently went missing as well. He's been gone for 3 weeks now and we still call for him and whistle for him to come home. We take bike rides looking for him and calling for him, checked animal control, neighbors, posted ads, etc. It's heartbreaking. Oreo, if you're still alive out there, I hope you're just on a fun adventure and will be home when you're ready. If you were attacked, I hope you passed quickly and with minimal pain. I hope you aren't scared, wherever you are. I hope we find you or your remains one day so we can bring you home and bury you beside your furry friends who have passed before you. We decided that we would search for one full year before giving him a memorial in our pet cemetery. Until then, we will continue to search. I've decided that pet GPS tags are my next investment for peace of mind. Good luck to anyone who has lost a pet and has never had closure. Best of luck to all.

(warning long but contains tips and steps on leash training your cat) my family wouldn't let me get a dog and I have always wanted to take a pet on a walk therefore I leash trained my cat with no help and people telling me I was torturing her I bought her the harnesses and leashes out of my own money (when I first stared I was 11) now almost 3 years later she is fully trained and we are about to be able to go on mild "hikes" (rail trails) together, training her was hard work but I never regretted it. I'm no expert I'm just a 14 year old animal lover but here are some tips: when you first get the harness put treats on it and have your cat take the treats from the harness. then slowly introduce the cat to wearing it. start with putting it on the cat unclipped and just letting them sit there with you petting them for 5-10 minutes then the next day do the same thing but clip the harness and play with them for about 15 minutes. once the cat is ready put the leash on and spend a day or 2 just letting them get use to it. slowly introduce them to walking, hold the leash and sit on your bed or the sofa while the cat explores then maybe add sounds of a dog barking or cars going bye to get them use to that. and after a couple days walk them around your room or the hallway so they get use to walking. once the seem comfortable with that take them outside and just let them explore the yard when they are use to that start taking them around the block. soon they will be comfortable with going on full walks. remember that you don't walk the cat the cat walks you. don't listen to people who say "cats aren't meant to be walked" (they don't have to be walked but the can and if they weren't supposed to companies wouldn't make cat harnesses and leashes.) please be patient with your cat only train them once a day for 2-15 minutes at a time. this prosses could take anywhere from a week to 2 months so be patient. Watch videos! videos can help you a lot! don't force your cat to do anything they don't want to they are in control. and finally reward your cat figure out if they are play or food motivated and reward them with that. I don't know if this will work with all cats but this is exactly how I trained my cat :) nobody asked me to write this but oh well I was bored. sorry this was so long and sorry if my English was bad. If your gonna leash train your cat good luck! and have fun! Trust me its all worth it in the end

Literally. This video is kind of funny but at the same time annoying because it fuels the myth that cats are lazy and like to be indoors. They will if that’s all they know but it’s healthier for them to get outside exercise and of course you can make them outdoor cats but that comes with its dangers and walking your cat creates a great opportunity to bond even further but like with most things, practice usually makes for a better experience. People who take their cat out without training them and thinking if they don’t like it the first time then it’s not for them, is like going to the gym for the first time, lifting weights and saying “it’s not for me” because you don’t get that summer body in one session, it’s illogical. You’ve got to train them, just like you would a dog. My dogs were exactly like this too, at first.

This is exactly how my first day trying to walk my cat looked like. Now he walks on a leash in the park without a problem. It takes time and a loooot of patience, but it can be done.

I was in Kindergarten when I decided I would take my cat out for a walk while my mom was on the phone. My cat was very big. After the struggle of getting him in the harness, nothing could move him. He just froze. I left him for an hour and he was still there. I figured I would just watch tv with the leash in my hand. Then my mom came loudly into the room opening a door, scaring the literally crap out of my cat. He literally dragged me all over the house and I couldn't get my hand out of the looped leash knocking things over only making him more scared and then he pooped on me... I have never tried to walk a cat again.

Ok, so there may have been more to this that they just didn't show, for anyone who's interested in walking their cat, this is not how you do it.
1) You need them to get used to the harness. You can use treats and clicker training to get them used to it. Put it on a few minutes at a time, and slowly increase the time they have it on (indoors).
2) When they get comfortable with the harness, put on the leash and take small walks inside. Once they get used to the leash, you can try and take them for a walk outside.
3) Have them wait at the door, give them a treat, let them go through the door, stop and give them a treat again. This way, they won't begin to doordash when they want to go out.
4) You don't walk your cat, your cat walks you. Walking a cat is very different to walking a dog. A cat might walk a little, and then stop and sniff the same spot for 10 minutes, before taking a few steps and stop to sniff a new spot. It can get really boring, but you do this for your cat, not for you. You can listen to some tunes or take a book with you if you get too bored.
And last but not least, not every cat wants to go outside. If your cat tends to dash towards the door every time it opens, or they sit by the door and meow, then they may want to go out. But if your cat just sleeps in the couch and looks out the window, they may not be interested. And not every cat is gonna like being in a harness.
If you want to try and walk your cat, you can always try it out and see if they like it, but if they hate it then don't force them. Again, do it for your cat, and not for you.

if someone put a harness or a collar on you and dragged you along by it what would you do? Try introducing the cat to the harness without the leash slowly and gently. My Siamese hated the harness at first, but she began to realise when I put it on her we were going out. In the end she went camping, out in the park, to a restaurant for dinner, and to work with me (customers asking for her). She did find out how to unzip the tent but just ran over and jumped in the car. Oh yes that time she slipped the harness which was pegged down in the tent while we were packing. You could try an extension lead on a reel which lets the cat moves around more while keeping it safe.
It's 6 years ago. I hope they r happy still
