I loved reading that book. You know - sometimes life just fucks you up and you don't know what to do. But then - there is a cat, the most unlikely companion you'd ever imagine. And you change your life, just because of this animal. What an amazing story!
What a wonderful idea - the thought that they saved one another, that Bob loved and cared for him when no one else gave a rat's a**; and he spent his last dime on medicine for Bob, by caring for someone else he learned to care for himself because he knew Bob was depending on him. Just a terrific idea. Love can do anything; Love can change the world.
I think cats have their own way of sensing human emotions. When I was in my darkest days, two of our cats always sleep under my bed which they do not usually do. I love them so much.

Just read the first book. It was such a worthwile read. My cat also "adopted" me. He sat under my window one night. He was dirty and very skinny. I had been wishing so badly for a blue british short hair but didn´t have the money. He was a BKH blue/white mix. He slept in my arm the very first night. When I had him chipped he sat on my arm. The Vet could not believe it. Sadly after 2,5 yrs. he died at approx 4,5 yrs from a bad cat virus which broke out. But as James said "Cats adopt people". So I am thankful for the time I had with the coolest and most friendly cat ever. An animal can change soooo much! Good luck to James&Bob and to everyone who takes care of an animal. Love Christina
The book has changed so much about the way I think and see things. I love my cats ten times more than I did, which I never thought possible. I used to think that people busking were just students or whoever trying to earn a little extra cash. Now I see it as their livelihoods. And I never really knew anything about the big issue. I'm ashamed of myself for the way I used to see things. I'm also more grateful to my parents than ever because without them I would be struggling to survive.
So touching how the cat saved you from your addiction. It just shows that animals are life savers. And like you say in the book, "cats choose you, not the other way around" and I just love ginger cats. :D

Dogs are wonderful, extremely loyal and loving . My dogs are all angels and so is my cat. And this is an amazing story about a cat who is extremely loyal and loving, seems love knows no bounds. We should love all animals, even if we have our favorites. The haters are probably void of love, I feel sorry for them. :-(
When I got my first cat I bought a book about cats as I had no idea how to care for their needs. The first chapter was how you acquire a cat. Gave several ways but usually they choose you. It said the first thing you need to know is when you get a cat, YOU are a guest in his or her home. LOL
My dear 96 year old friend got the book as a gift from her sister in England and then lent it to me. I wish I had read it before visiting London from Canada in November as I would have looked for James and Bob. I loved the book and now have a better understanding and compassion for the homeless especially the ones who really have a talent or are trying to get a better life for themselves. Congratulations James on your book and your staying clean.
I've seen James and Bob many times in London and always leave feeling elated, with faith restored in humans. A lovely partnership and James clearly adores his cat!.

C Gray that's what melted me to James when reading the book, that he spent almost all his money, literally, to heal bob and do a good one for him. Certainly I think James couldn't have really cared well for Bob if he himself hadn't already been trying to work his life over, being on methadone and in a house by when he found bob, and I wonder if James realizes this, but I certainly love how they helped each other flourish
I got this book as a Christmas gift and I have to say that it was the 2nd best gift because the best one was a abandoned starving cat that came to my door a few days ago. It makes us wonder about the importance of animals in our lives.

Having bought many books , and having read the first few pages , then got fed up and never botherd again with them , I bought , this book, A street cat named Bob , thinking it would end up the same thrown into a cupboard , well I went on holiday , and thought well I will give it a try , Well I was hooked on the book , I could not put it down , what a fantastic story and a very humbling one to , my heart goes out to this young man , and I really hope his life turns around , because he deserves it 100% , BEST BOOK EVER , love the pair of them .

I remember watching James and Bob on This Morning at my grandparents' and being fascinated by their story. Coincidentally my grandparents bought me A Street Cat Named Bob for Christmas, and it is genuinely one of the most heartwarming and thought-provoking books I've read. Having also watched 'Bobcat and I' and other videos of Bob taken while James was still busking/selling the BI, I am so happy for both of them, and am glad that Bob managed to change a good man's life. Such an amazing story.
And James was/is committed to living a life free of drugs and filled with enacting Bob's legacy. They both had/have a tremendous sense of purpose and sense of direction.
I got 3 books from james and bob,,, ithe first one brought me tears and the second one brought me lots of lough hahaha with bob on that strange walking tap tap tap .... Bob very adventurous cat,,,, love you both ! Simply lovin' the book. I am Filipina and we have also in Philippine ,, living together with mum.
"Bob: No Ordinary Cat" is the first book. They are the same story as the "adult" novels without some gruesome details. For instance in the original book "A Street Cat Named Bob" he goes into quite a bit of details about Bob's injuries but in "Bob: No Ordinary Cat" he just talk about how Bob was hurt without describing every single wound. It's not a detail you need to understand the story. He just cleans it up so it is more suitable for young adults to read. In "A Street Cat Named Bob" there is some detail about food odors coming from a neighbors apartment and his description of the way the person was dressed is different. He mention those but not how dirty the clothes appeared. Just grubby details. With feeding Bob in "A Street Cat Named Bob" he specifically mentions feeding Bob Tuna and Milk and neither are good to feed a cat so he changes it to some nibbles or somethings that is true without teaching people it is OK to feed then such things by example. He did not know it was OK then and did not want younger people to think it was OK do to so like he did with Bob. The essential story about Bob and James is the same in either versions. Be it "A Street Cat Named Bob" or "Bob: No Ordinary Cat" and the same for "The World According to Bob" and "For the love of Bob". Same story different words in some places.

I own a cocktail bar in Bulgaria, and one day a street cat entered the bar (I don't know how) and treated it as its home. He came every day during opening hours and stayed there till closing. I've absolutely adored him, we became friends. I've bought him a toilet in the bar and made sure he has enough food every day. It became a ritual of sorts. Each day when I check in at work, I call on him and he appears out of nowhere, spending his whole day with me. Until one day he didn't come... then a second day, and a third... I was worried sick and started looking for him. One day he came to the bar, all wrecked, he was hit by a car. Smelled like s#it, a big mess. So I took him to the nearest Vet, paid all the expenses for his treatment, and now we have lived together for three years. I love my buddy! He is still alive today.

I remember watching James and Bob on This Morning at my grandparents' and being fascinated by their story. Coincidentally my grandparents bought me A Street Cat Named Bob for Christmas, and it is genuinely one of the most heartwarming and thought-provoking books I've read. Having also watched 'Bobcat and I' and other videos of Bob taken while James was still busking/selling the BI, I am so happy for both of them, and am glad that Bob managed to change a good man's life. Such an amazing story.

I got 3 books from james and bob,,, ithe first one brought me tears and the second one brought me lots of lough hahaha with bob on that strange walking tap tap tap .... Bob very adventurous cat,,,, love you both ! Simply lovin' the book. I am Filipina and we have also in Philippine ,, living together with mum.
I only have "For the love of Bob" and have read the whole book!!! Very good! I recommend it to cat lovers like me 😊
"Bob: No Ordinary Cat" is the first book. They are the same story as the "adult" novels without some gruesome details. For instance in the original book "A Street Cat Named Bob" he goes into quite a bit of details about Bob's injuries but in "Bob: No Ordinary Cat" he just talk about how Bob was hurt without describing every single wound. It's not a detail you need to understand the story. He just cleans it up so it is more suitable for young adults to read. In "A Street Cat Named Bob" there is some detail about food odors coming from a neighbors apartment and his description of the way the person was dressed is different. He mention those but not how dirty the clothes appeared. Just grubby details. With feeding Bob in "A Street Cat Named Bob" he specifically mentions feeding Bob Tuna and Milk and neither are good to feed a cat so he changes it to some nibbles or somethings that is true without teaching people it is OK to feed then such things by example. He did not know it was OK then and did not want younger people to think it was OK do to so like he did with Bob. The essential story about Bob and James is the same in either versions. Be it "A Street Cat Named Bob" or "Bob: No Ordinary Cat" and the same for "The World According to Bob" and "For the love of Bob". Same story different words in some places.

I own a cocktail bar in Bulgaria, and one day a street cat entered the bar (I don't know how) and treated it as its home. He came every day during opening hours and stayed there till closing. I've absolutely adored him, we became friends. I've bought him a toilet in the bar and made sure he has enough food every day. It became a ritual of sorts. Each day when I check in at work, I call on him and he appears out of nowhere, spending his whole day with me. Until one day he didn't come... then a second day, and a third... I was worried sick and started looking for him. One day he came to the bar, all wrecked, he was hit by a car. Smelled like s#it, a big mess. So I took him to the nearest Vet, paid all the expenses for his treatment, and now we have lived together for three years. I love my buddy! He is still alive today.
