Coldplay gets a lot of crap, but they have so many great hits, you gotta recognize their successes. Love this song. Popular through my entire college experience
@Howard Hassen Dude I get that it's not your thing but that attitude is just so 🙄 🙄 You know, it is actually possible to dislike something and not be a prick about it. I grew up on classical music and rock from the 60s 70s and 80s that my parents listened to when they were young, yet I listen to anything from rock to indie, EDM, hiphop, pop, blues and even reggetton depending on my mood and vibe that day. Get off you high horse we know you probably secretly like justin biber and hide it by being a music snob. "its music for people who don't really like music"- well let me break it to you: a real music lover is not a music snob. You might not personally like something and it's okay but there's no need to shit on it. If you truly appreciate music you will know one of the best parts of music is the emotion and feeling that it transmits. Coldplay might not be the most creative and experimental, or the most complex composition-wise but it means something to someone, it makes them feel things and that's all that matters. This song is super uplifting, and we all need that sometimes.
On records? Yes. Studio equipment can do wonders. Live.... not so much. Have seen them live twice. First time was one of their own concerts on 7th July 2005 (a date that ppl from London will remember) and under the highly emotional circumstances his voice held up very well. The second time was at a festival, six years later. His voice was unbalanced most of the time, mostly due to his enthousiastic stage performance. It leaves him out of breath during many songs. The show he puts on and the way Chris connects with the audience is terrific, but he does pay the price in vocal quality.

Heres a little backstory on the song Viva la Vida is about life, death, war and change. According to some, the central idea of the song refers to Louis XVI who, after having triumphed over England during the American War of Independence, was at the head of France (then the most powerful country in Europe) . “I used to rule the world” and “feel the fear in my enemies” could correspond to this theory. The phrase "revolutionaries wait for my head on a silver plate" could speak of his death by guillotine. But Coldplay has never confirmed this thesis.
Seen him live twice and both times my only real complaint is that I was too far from the stage and his hardcore fans sing so loud you can't hear him over them. The songs are great and they just get better over time really. Late 90s, early 00s were pretty barren in a lot of ways and Coldplay filled a sorely needed space at that time.
My daughter has been to more than 100 concerts in Paris (including Jackson, Prince - we shared that one !, Stevie Wonder), but the very best concert in her opinion was Coldplay and she is a great fan of RAP, R&B.. Personally I love this group and their latest (?) song "Adventure of a Lifetime" !!!
