@Howard Hassen Dude I get that it's not your thing but that attitude is just so 🙄 🙄 You know, it is actually possible to dislike something and not be a prick about it.
I grew up on classical music and rock from the 60s 70s and 80s that my parents listened to when they were young, yet I listen to anything from rock to indie, EDM, hiphop, pop, blues and even reggetton depending on my mood and vibe that day.
Get off you high horse we know you probably secretly like justin biber and hide it by being a music snob.
"its music for people who don't really like music"- well let me break it to you: a real music lover is not a music snob.
You might not personally like something and it's okay but there's no need to shit on it. If you truly appreciate music you will know one of the best parts of music is the emotion and feeling that it transmits.
Coldplay might not be the most creative and experimental, or the most complex composition-wise but it means something to someone, it makes them feel things and that's all that matters. This song is super uplifting, and we all need that sometimes.

On records? Yes. Studio equipment can do wonders.
Live.... not so much. Have seen them live twice. First time was one of their own concerts on 7th July 2005 (a date that ppl from London will remember) and under the highly emotional circumstances his voice held up very well. The second time was at a festival, six years later. His voice was unbalanced most of the time, mostly due to his enthousiastic stage performance. It leaves him out of breath during many songs. The show he puts on and the way Chris connects with the audience is terrific, but he does pay the price in vocal quality.

Heres a little backstory on the song
Viva la Vida is about life, death, war and change. According to some, the central idea of the song refers to Louis XVI who, after having triumphed over England during the American War of Independence, was at the head of France (then the most powerful country in Europe) . “I used to rule the world” and “feel the fear in my enemies” could correspond to this theory. The phrase "revolutionaries wait for my head on a silver plate" could speak of his death by guillotine. But Coldplay has never confirmed this thesis.

Viva La Vida was released in 2008. The song proved to be popular that it hit #1 on the UK Chart and on the US Billboard Hot 100.
The song was the subject of a couple different plagiarism lawsuits. Take notes.
First, a band called Creaky Boards claimed that Coldplay ripped their song, ironically titled, The Songs I Didn’t Write but Coldplay recorded a demo of Viva prior to when Creaky Boards first performed that song.
Then Joe Satriani stepped up and sued Coldplay claiming that they had plagiarized his song If I Could Fly.
After that, Cat Stevens stepped up and said that they all sounded like his Foreigner Suite,
The verdict? Joe Satriani’s case was dismissed in 2009.

I remember somewhat liking this song when it first came out but I didn't fully appreciate it until years later. Even now, I've been revisiting older music and realizing that I wasn't really listening before, and it's like digging up buried treasure. Please check out "Paradise," "Charlie Brown," "Princess of China," "Magic," and "Atlas."

80's new wave girl =me (which is now mom to teenager) and Coldplay is my favorite current band. In concert, this song becomes an insane mass of jumping, singing crowd on the "Oh" chorus at the end. You might their song Something Just Like This that they collaborated with Chainsmokers. Or Adventure of a Lifetime. Or Paradise. Or my favorite is Trouble.

If you like Coldplay I recommend that you listen to a band called Travis, who in Chris Martin's own words "was the band that invented Coldplay and many other bands". Love Will Come Through, Re-Offender, Flowers In The Window, Side, Sing or Closer are some of his best songs.

People who criticise Coldplay have never seen them live! I say this as someone who thought they were just "Ok" until I saw them headline Glastonbury in 2011 and within 4 songs I was completely converted and they continued to blow me away for the rest of their set. I almost didn't go and watch them again when they headlined Glastonbury again in 2016 as I didn't think they could top 2011. How wrong I was! They surpassed it in more ways I can describe, and I don't think anyone can truly understand the connection and atmosphere they generate at their live shows when you have 100k people singing Viva La Vida, Fix You, Yellow, The Scientist, and Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall at the top of their lungs in a field together! If you can, watch their sets at Glastonbury 2011 and 2016 and the Buenos Aires gig and you will understand.

When this song first became a hit I vaguely remember reading that Chris Martin wrote it with Napoleon in mind. So when he sings about, “When I ruled the World“, it’s about Napoleon Bonaparte. I could be wrong, but I remember reading that.
