Your channel is so underrated!
I love how excited you are about your work and the detailed explanation and teaching you offer. You're absolutely adorable, and I love it.
Hi Kat! I would have so enjoyed this live livestream had I known you existed. You inspired me to order a handle, needle and bead spinner and I can't wait to get started. I have an idea for my first attempt having just returned from visiting my friend in Mexico. (I'm in Nebraska.) On the front of her residence is a sun shaped, carved vent cover. This sun , I think homage to the head of the household, has a face with heavy eyebrows and mustache. I must say, Kat, that this piece you're working on is stunning. I imagine your community over there delights in seeing your works irl.
Ah I hope you have so much fun with your first project! and thank you so much!! I will definitely be doing more livestreams in the future :)
Incredible talent. 👍🇺🇸🇨🇱
This looks amazing. I did a basic course last year to learn foundation stitches so now just need to set aside time to practice heaps so that I can look forward to getting this good 😊. Nice to see another fellow “NZ’r” being so awesomely creative. ❤
Ahh it's so fun! I hope you do get a chance to keep practicing, I find it such a rewarding technique 🥰
I've learned so much from you live stream thank you!
You’re so natural and amazing at what you do!!! I live in Ontario,Canada, just outside Toronto to the East.
Love you lessons. Just found you. Thank you.
I’m from South Africa, it would have been midnight here when you uploaded this video. I’m loving your work, and your communication style and energy really work for me. I’m so glad I found you online!! Stay brilliant ❤
I’m just learning tambour and enjoying it. It’s lovely to see someone doing it X
Love this wrapped areas ❤❤❤❤
Lovely the Hot pink and Teal 💕😊
The dress turned out fabulous ❤
Just saw it on the shorts
Thank you so much! It's come a long way from where it was in this Live!
Perfect ❤
Fabulous work! I can see the Guo Pei inspiration in the combination of embroidery with the sequins and beads. May I ask what type of netting that is and where you find it? I have tried a few different types, but can't seem to find the right one... Thanks in advance!🤩
I have just started on your channel and hope to know when I can join live-streams! I love this tambour embroider! I hope you get better soon!
I don't currently have a schedule but the next time I do one I'll try to announce it a few days ahead of time!
@@katmakes Thanks! And all the best! ❤️
Would love to hear your backstory. How you developed your many-varied skills, what brought you to NZ, and your process in teaching yourself tambour embroidery.
I just started gathering tools and watching videos, almost ready to start, unclear if I will be coordinated or patient enough to start this journey or whether my uncooperative body will comply for long enough periods to have this be super enjoyable.
You are much appreciated!

I’m here
Im new to your channel and a cosplayer who loves shiny things. I was wondering if ther are ways to make tambour work even if you don’t have the needle thing.
How did you made the frame or where to buy one with good quality, also where can I get the tambour embroidery needle from because I have one from Amazon but the needle falls all the time
I have a video coming with some info on how I built the slate frame, but in the meantime my blog post about it is here: www.katmakes.com/blog/2018/5/3/handmade-wedding-dress-corselet-slate-frame
and i HIGHLY recommend the handles from Maydel - they're sustainably sourced, really lovely to hold, and they don't loosen up like the amazon ones! maydel.com/product/tambour-handle-for-luneville-embroidery/?mdlaff=25
One more thing, an online community that I'm part of does YT livestreams of Zoom gatherings. That might be something to consider, or record Zoom gatherings of novice and sage Tambourers and then post to YT after the event if you so choose. Just some suggestions here meant to help give you ideas. :o)
Oh i love these ideas! A group livestream could be quite fun as well!! Thank you so much!
What fabric are you using?
You make it look so easy and for some reason I cannot make any stitches with my tambour needle that I got for my birthday - they fall off, get snagged...I threw it in the corner! What's the fabric you are using on this project? maybe mine is too dense? I'm using organza but there's no holes. I'm going to blame the fact that I'm left-handed! Your work is beautiful 😊
As an old pro I feel your pain, the trick is to make sure your fabric is super tight if it’s organza, and to really make sure you are rotating 180 degrees and pushing back with the needle before you pull it up! Eventually your body just picks it up don’t worry!
Thanks for your confidence and encouragement! This is now 6 weeks on and still nothing but frustration... 😢😂
@@castoputathanks for that. I hope I can manage to keep my patience before I snap the thing in half and move on!!
So, what ink is used to transfer a pattern to fabric so it doesn't stain/smudge the rest of the fabric when beading or hand washing?
This really depends on the fabric - I usually default to a Frixion pen which isn't an issue if the lines will be hidden or if the piece can be washed - the majority of my work falls into at least one of those two categories. If the work can handle being sprayed with water, Clover makes a great water-erasable pen in white, and Staedtler has a pencil. The 'traditional' method to transfer is called 'prick and pounce' and uses powder (charcoal or cuttlefish or sometimes other things, depending on where you get it from), which is more gentle than the pen options - and ultimately, if you're the most worried about a particularly delicate fabric that can't be washed - thread basting takes a while but sometimes it's the only way.
What is the difference between working on the top and the opposite side ??
great question! The biggest functional difference is how the beads go on - they're either pre-strung on the thread or loose and picked up by the hook. working from the back is the French (Luneville) technique, and from the front is the Indian (Aari) technique. This video goes into more detail and shows how they both work, if you're interested! czcams.com/video/AWZv5Ujyk1U/video.html
Omg yeah if I don’t have my nails I just can’t bead lol. It’s always a major tragedy if they break
What size beads are you using please
All size 11/0 (2mm) seed beads in this one!
