  • In this video I show you how I identified an odd issue that was going on with my hub. This particular hub is a Sun Ringle SRC that came stock on a Salsa Timberjack.

Interesting. I’ve had every issue with an src hub ( on a mulefut 80 fat tire setup) but not this. Would love to know how that stripped. I use it on a 1500w e-bike set-up. Never has that happened. I actually sheared the axle once, and of course it’s aluminum and they make a steel axle upgrade. Just curious how this happened. Sure It’s fixed by now. Just hoping maybe you found an answer. Thanks.

I was going to try and rig it but I found hairline cracks in my rim too so I just replaced the whole wheel. I’m not exactly sure how it happened. I sheared two aluminum axles before finding the steel replacement. I guess I’m hard on it?

I honestly think that hub is designed to be a $ maker for them. Theirs too many issues with it in my opinion. Then all the parts and tools are available to fix. So far mine is good but I don’t have a lot of faith in it yet. Should have came with steel axle initially. Maybe the sheering of the 2 axles caused your problem somehow. Who knows. I committed to this SRC hub now that I have spare parts. I was 20mi from my car when my axle snapped made for a fun day. I never tightened a skewer harder to keep axle tight in my life. Lol. Made it back tho. 🙌. Think you made a good choice replacing rim.

Dude i have the same problem. Did you find a solution yet?

With the aluminum hub stripping there isn't much you can really do. I was going to try and put a set screw in it but I found hairline cracks in my rim so I just ended up replacing my whole wheel. Even if I had been able to do something it would have been rigged and temporary as the hub is pretty much shot. Sorry for the bad news, maybe Santa will bring you a new hub/wheel?

@@maryjane9000 just make sure the problem is not the freehub body. That would be fixable and much cheaper than a new hub.

You can just replace the ratchet ring.

The ratchet ring is fine, it's the hub that stripped out. I wish that was all it was...
