  • Jesus’s phrase “render unto Caesar what is Caesar’s and unto God what is God’s” is often used to refer to the relationship between Christianity and government.
Some Pharisees and others wanted to trap Jesus. They wanted him to say something that would get him arrested by the Roman government.
So they asked him about paying taxes. The Jewish people hated paying Roman taxes so they hoped Jesus would side with them against the Roman Empire. Then Pharisees could have the Romans arrest Jesus.
Jesus recognized their plot. “Why are you putting me to the test, you hypocrites?” (Mt 22:18).
Then he surprised them with his answer. He asked them whose head was on the coin (a Roman denarius). “Ceasar’s,” they said of course.
“Give therefore to Caesar the things that are Caesar’s and to God the things that are God’s” (Mt 22:21).
The traditional phrase begins “render unto,” which means “to give” usually in reference to a service that is provided.
There have been many interpretations and applications of this story throughout history. Most importantly, it has been used to express the separation of Church and government.
The kingdom of God and the kingdoms of this world are different.
Give back and pay taxes to the local leaders who provide services of protection.
Give back to God what is spiritual and holy.

I also think Jesus was saying that we have to render ourselves to God. Render to Caesar the coins because they are made in his image. Render yourselves to God because you're made in the image of God.

Actually it would be more helpful if you mentioned that the "Caesar" in this context is Emperor *Tiberius*

Money in itself isn't evil...Money is a tool ...At the end of the day... Man's motives and ambitions can lead to evil

@@silence3916 Money isn't evil, The government is! Taxation is, paying for food, water, and electricity when free energy was available to all is evil! Giving a church money that doesn't pour into the community is evil! Hospitals that treat but don't heal is evil, homeless people starving while billionaires focus on depopulation is evil, not being sovereign as The Most High intended is slavery which is evil! Hating people for the color of their skin is evil! The paper we work for is backed by nothing of value so upholding this system is ridiculous and ignorant because we are supporting our own demise to be controlled by evil! God said money is the root of All evil because it breeds capitalism, superiority complex, wars, greed ect. When all we really need is land and to be left tf alone!

It is the love for money that is the root of all evil…not the money itself…there is a difference

@@TheWirral Money is fake currency, nothing is backing the dollar, it's literally printed IOU's that keeps us in a cycle of chasing our tail for poisoned food, water, air and energy that was meant to be free for all! They're literally selling us God's given gifts to sustain ourselves while tainting it to keep us docile. We are the stock exchange, our voluntary work is modern day slavery, and though I see where you're coming from. Tell me why they are trying to change to a cashless society? Could it be now that most are awakening to the system of slavery, they are once again moving the goal post to implement the mark of the beast?! Where nobody would be allowed to buy nor sell without it?! I suggest you research what's really going on.
