Carl Lewis is STILL the standard of American sprinting for men. There are faster guys, but his form, his mechanics, will forever be the standard. It was truly a joy to race with him at Invitationals and mixed ages meets. To watch him was like watching Jordan play basketball; truly magical.
Among other things, these particular World Championships slot in rather nicely (almost exactly midway) between the Olympic Games of 1964 and 2020 - using the very same stadium location, no less.
Dennis Mitchell definitely wasn't. He was later caught. Lewis did have a cloud after the 1988 Olympic Trials but was let off. Burrell and Cason both had clean records.
@@patricksweeney5308 Lewis did take banned substances. It was revealed in 20003 that he failed a drug test following the US Olympic Trials in 1988. Prior to Seoul.
Its funny how personality can make such a difference in an athletes legacy. Lewis had a career that a track star could only dream of ....... but the personality of a wet cigarette. Bolt is undoubtedly the GOAT but tbh, if he had a personality of a "Lewis💩" ..you know he wouldn't be the Legend he is. Bolt was born to be the best and his entire persona simply adds to his Legendary status.
If the acronym G.O.A.T. >GOAT is based on personality then all the "GOATS" dead and alive who simplify waved at their admirers and said goodby abruptly would have been anything but goats. It would then be necessary to snatch away all their grandeur and think of everyone of htem as a LOAT: least of all time!

Dennis Mitchell running the curve was my favorite thing in track
He always was executed it
Viva King Carl! August 1, 2021, Sunday.
Carl Lewis was very popular name in Japan back then and this was one of the best race for the U.S.
Legendary Leroy Burrell rolled so fast here.

2021 it would seem!
Bruno Marie Rose thought he had a chance for a half second…😂
Imagine if Carl Lewis would have been a faster starter. He would have had a personal best at around 9.70 in 100m
Can't catch King Carl!!
American team was great.
Legendary french team! Commentators do not emphasize them enough. So far individually so close as a team.
Yeah...
Daniel Sangouma, Max Moriniere, Bruno Marie-Rose, Gilles Queneherve. As a team, they were very good, had set WR before USA reclaimed the WR.
@@lexsoft3969 The fourth one is Jean-Charles Trouabal and not Gilles Queneherve
Lewis is about a little toe away from a lane violation.
Wonder where the Jamaicans were in those days.
The Jamican's had Ray Stewart in the 100m final, but they weren't that strong collectively back then.
The US team toasted the French team.. thats right they were French Toast.
drugs reign in USA at that time

The US was clean, stop hating.

Look at Lewis's gut and muscles, I‘m sure he was clean.

@@patricksweeney5308 Look at this czcams.com/video/WvspDqy4U98/video.html, Carl had a very good form, maybe the best in history.

bolt looks older than Carl
smooth nubian What does that have to do with anything that the original comment stated?
