The guys discuss players mindsets, Barcelona’s iconic midfield, lessons learnt from the final and more! Was it the Lionel Messi final? Let us know what you and which other games you would like to see us analyse in the future.

2011 Fc Barcelona was jaw dropping. Greatest Football ever played.
This is why I never understand people slandering Messi for "only" being able to do it with Xavi, Iniesta and Busi.
The footballing intelligence and understanding you need to even be able to catch up mentally is near impossible. Let alone be the best player by far amongst them.
xavi iniesta he needed them look at what he did with Argentina,,, not like Maradona
Then what happened him now
@@dhyankavinda3216 he’s 35 😂
@@kingarthurusatenniscoach1415 Argentina in 2014 and 18 didn't pass him the ball. He averaged 84 touches in Barcelona in 2014, but in the WC he averaged 46 touches. They were too afraid to take chances to reach Messi. Never mind Xavi and Iniesta, he needed a competent team arround him. And asside from Di MAria and Aguaro, it was looking awful. This curremt Argentina are playing very well though. Unbeaten for 3 years (35 matches). They won the Copa against Brazil IN Brazil, and then demolished the Euro champions (Italy) in la Finalisima.
@@celeschan90 Maradona unselfish player and leader a team player Took so much physical abuse.
It’s crazy how you can have a midfield trio at the heart of the Spanish dominance, winning Euros 2x and a World Cup. Then you add Messi, who singlehandedly carried a poor Argentina team to multiple copa America finals and a World Cup final 😂🤯 once in a life time. But Hot take: I still feel Guardiola made Xavi-Iniesta-Busi better than they were since under Rijkard, prime aged Xavi and Iniesta were sitting on the bench of the ‘06 final and weren’t first team regulars.
No doubt Pep made them better. They were good players with elite understanding of the game, but the Pep system took them to a new level.
@@Sproles11 100% , which makes me feel some people overrate them since you can’t speak about one without mentioning the other, they come as a duo
Yeah they weren't complete midfielders. Just the best at what they did. But casual football fans seem to think they were the second coming of Jesus.
@@AJ-nd4nk trust me, and don’t get it twisted - nearly 90% of world class midfielders have had world class teammates besides them with a top tier coach but when the only time you get clout is a under a specific coach who changed who played a new meta version of football to make you look good… I have to side eye it a little lol
@@velianfc Iniesta was still playing well after Pep left, under Lucho where he played with Rakitic. That Barcelona side was not playing tiki taka, as they used to under Pep, Luhcos Barcelona side was more counter-attacking with MSN, and the midfield was not controlling so much. Iniesta was showing that he still could adapt to a new system, and he was still good in his last season with Valverde who played more pragmatic football whit a 4-4-2 formation.
As a utd fan who can remember that game having it broke down like that was brilliant. My Dad was there he says Barcelona are the best team he has seen
The difference from 2009 to this final was the fact barca went to another level that year. They demolished Madrid 5-0 in the classico and beat them in the semi final. They were at their peak that year. And United haven't sufficiently strengthened the squad to compete with a pressing team. It still gives me nightmares thinking about that game.
As a young United fan, this club gave me the best childhood winning leagues & UCL. That final in 2011 was one of the few times as a United fan where I felt we didn't have a chance & still is one of the worst days of my life because of how Barca dominated us in that final. 😪 GGMU 🇾🇪
I'd never seen a Fergie United side look so ordinary. Was the first time I thought, maybe Fergie's time will soon come to end. I knew this Barca side would continue to change football. That Barca 10-11 team are the greatest club side I ever watched.
Relate
As a united fan im so jealous to you all been supporting since 2015 to young to have seen the old days…
@@tonimartial5042 been watching them since I was 9 and I’m now 26. I feel bad for kids under 18 cause you missed out on United when we were regularly in CL finals and semi finals
Ive been watching United since 1989. We were well beaten that day but it never for 1 second dawned on me to write Fergie off. Id done that after he sold the 94 team and replaced them with the class of 92 (they were unknowns then, replacing Hughes, Ince, Kanchelskis) I wrote him off again in 04/05 when i thought Chelsea had over taken us. Imagine our low point used to be being beaten by the greatest club side to ever exist in a champions league final 😢 what would you give for anything close to that now
true! vidic and ferdinard barely got out of their own box.
The Only time Vidic went up the pitch and got sucked in 1 v 1 with Messi alone ... He got the Greatest Nutmeg of all time 😆😆
Man landed on his backside
Half of the video is about messi and it just shows how important messi was and people say he is nothing without Xavier Iniesta.
He is nothing to talk about without them , just look at his performances at PSG 😂 he is a system player & loves quality players with him
@@joshuakithyoma9575Ye man that’s why he’s a contender for a 3rd balon d’or without Xavi or Iniesta, WC pott, and Copa America pott. Dis ain’t even everything
@joshuakithyoma9575 penaldo is the same thing can't strive without modric, kroos and casemiro
@@joshuakithyoma9575 Dummy. How many years did it take for Cristiano to win a league or a UCL with Real or Man United after he first transferred to them??!!
those 'people' are ronaldo fans
Being beaten in the champions league final by the greatest football team ive ever seen. That used to be a bad day as a United fan. Thats the standard.
This was actually a brilliant tactical analysis. What the spare defensive man does with his positioning is very underrated, you need to make sure you are affecting the game with your position and if you arent you have to be brave enough to move away from your starting position.
6:50 You got it wrong, Pedro scored the first goal off that Xavi pass in the UCL final..not Villa.
This is class, from Rio! What Sky Sport's been missing for years, some proper analysis.
That starting 11 for Man Utd shows how good a manager fergie was
Ferdinand can never get over by what barca and messi did to them in UCLs.
2:28 you know what rio, playing as a center back you understand such stuff. Pique was absolutely immense for Barcelona but his mistakes just like Aymeric Laporte get highlighted more because of the high pressure situation....still Pique is massive
greatest football team to play football. 2011 Fc Barcelona.
Messi was the difference for both 2009 and 2011 final. Man United and Barcelona were actually pretty much the same level. Both were champion for their respective leagues. They already familiar with both tactics as they met few times before.
Not about the result, just amazing to have inside analysis on such a spectacular event. Which game do you want us to cover next?
2007/08 Barcelona vs Man Utd - semi-final first-leg at Camp Nou. A great defensive performance against an amazing attacking Barca side. Why wasn't this strategy employed in the subsequent 2 finals?? Was this a Carlos Queiroz influence?
8-2 vs Arsenal, just for Joel 😂😂😂
For United, either 2008 UCL final or Arsenal 8-2.
In PL, Portsmouth 7-4 Reading or Newcastle 4-4 Arsenal.
Globally, Brazil 1-7 Germany, Barcelona 5-0 Real Madrid or Barcelona 6-1 Paris Saint-Germain
ronaldo's (r9) hat trick game vs utd and the utd chelsea european final when you won the ucl
@@Joe-xf5ot Only time I wanna see Joel on screen
I remember watching that match and thinking to myself a few minutes into the match: "we're in trouble here. that midfield of Barca is killing us. we need to change something". I saw that our defenders struggled with their positioning, since the CBs had no one to mark and the fullbacks are so wide. That's uncomfortable and too much distance to cover. Barca was on another level. Great analysis Rio. I prefer this content over the watch and bling stuff. In fact, I don't watch that show at all.
I remember the build up that saturday evening & thinking united could be in for a good hiding.
That Barcelona team for me are the best club side by a country mile.💯
Absolute top banana.🔥
That Barca team's the best ever, hands down. Never have we ever seen the gaffer look so defeated while the game was still going on with 5-10min left to play.
Would like a breakdown of games against Mourinho's Chelsea, what was it about them? As fans we hated that team but they were just so clinically good at everything.
Ancelotti's Milan, star players up front, that midfield seemed unplayable.
Then Galactico Real Madrid, that R9 hattrick.
Terry and Carvalho, Essien/Lampard/Maka and Drogba that teams spine had so much strength, pace, and power gave us headaches. Drogba was a nightmare even for Vidic
Happy Cams is able to show his punditry to a new audience. Look at that starting line up guys. SAF was performing miracles UCL final that lineup 😭😭👏👏
Been saying it for a while Cams knowledge when it comes to ball is just ahead of some of the others happy to see him showcasing his stuff💯
11:27 Rio perfectly said that👏 ...Even if they man mark with Park, Messi still comes with a plan like simply standing and occupying your players where it will give option to the other players the midfielders to attack ...That's complete Freedom...Zinedine Zidane tried this by marking Messi with kocavic in the 2017-18 season el clasico at the bernabeu and there was a huge space in the middle which was seen by the barca midfielder and he just dribbled it and sets a perfect ball to Suarez and he scored...while kovacic was defending the just standing genius MESSI...Brilliant...Perfectly quoted FOOTBALL IS PLAYED WITH THE HEAD, YOUR FEET ARE JUST THE TOOLS...
Thanks Ferdinand for your input. 👌
This style of play can be adopted by any nation. When I was a youngster in Rotterdam, our coach/manager told us: keep the ball and the goal will come.
It was an absolute pleasure playing in Holland, unfortunately my parents brought me to Scotland aged 14 just after my 14th birthday. And life was alien to me here, i never recovered or could find a club to give me what Holland gave me. I was winning titles and getting to finals. Even tough i wasn't completely happy playing center back I dominated in that position.
Love this concept Rio! Really really great to see, especially cause of your own personal experience. I'd love on top of the usual weekly prem update with Joel and Ste is that you break down the best game/performance each week tactically when the next season starts
I also remember Rooney dropping in to make it a 3 in the middle and Sir Alex fuming on the touchline telling him to stay forward and stick to a 4-4-2.
The way I jumped after Rooney equalised 😅 I really wanted to get revenge for 2009 final
Same
it was offside 😅
More of this please!! I love analysis and breakdowns of football matches. This was class from Rio and Cams. Looking forward to the next analysis episode. P.S - As a United fan myself, I remember how vex was when we lost that final, but that Barca team was just ridiculous lol.
Great content man, keep them coming!!
The insight n first person stories in this episode is unparalleled! Loved this concept lads

Great episode, broke it down very well. culture cams had some good insight and good points too. This collaboration works well. Keep this segment going. Great content!
Big up cams hosting. Clean
I was always gutted Berbatov didn’t get a chance even as a sub, I would also love to see a similar interview with Sir Alex himself with his analysis to see what he thinks about it, was great to hear Rios side of it too
F*ck me man this game still hurts especially at wembley !! I remember after this game i said to myself we're done it's the begining of the end to that era because i felt like we were helpless we couldn't do anything even sir alex couldn't do anything.. still hurts man but thank you for the memories guys keep it up
... Nightmares 😫... Amazing show tho !! Love all these little tactical details Rio sprinkled all over 👌👌👌
Thx rio well xplained

Unreal content🙌🏼
Excellent analysis 👍
Amazing show man!
Cam's knowledge and analysis is different class
2009 team was closer in levels and I felt we could of beat them as we did it the year before but the tactics were wrong.
ironically, the lineup in 2009 (three CM's, Rooney and Park on the wings) would have been much more suited for the 2011 game and vice-versa
could have or could've....not could of....that doesnt make sense.
That Barcelona side from 2009 was playing without Alves and Abidal who had very important roles in Pep's Barca. Puyol was used as a right-back and Yaya was playing in defense when he normally was a midfielder. Sylvinho was a washed up left back who had to fill in for Abidal.

No shame to Rio. They succeeded fantastically to reach the finals only to face one of of the best teams ever. Kudos for offering his analysis.
Great segment
Great video 👍🏻
I love that Rio is saying about the change of the they played, yep at the time saw that and yelled at the TV, to lose after changing your style out of fear, Fergie crippled the team in 2009 and 2011, playing against the nature he, himself, built into you.
Man like Cams in the building!
Best team of all time!!
"pep told me to attack Rio's flank"....that was Messi's simple instruction from pep😂
Rio has very good tactical analysis I’m impressed. This game still pains me to date.
As much as we look at the analysis that barca team was just unstoppable man🙌🙌
Rio x Cams 🐐 duo🔥
What a show. Love it. Do Man Utd vs arsenal next. When we smashed em Highbury
Good job cams
Now I know why we don’t see Cams & Rants together no more coz Cams working with Rio so now he’s gotta be my positive cater to the top reds.
One thing that I thought was key coming into this game. Was Darren Fletcher getting suspended in the semi final. He was in great form at the time
Best football team ever with thr Best player ever .what a game it was
Wow amazing
Ayyy my man cams
More of this!
Please do the 09 Final. The 11 final I think we were all resound to losing. 09 I still believe we should have won.
You guys should break down spurs vs man city semi finals from 2019 UCL
That was educational
8:00 to 8:55 sums up what Sir Alex should have gone with. Stick to what this United team was great at - that is play in a mid block and hit teams on the counter and have Scholes/Carrick controlling the midfield with a third midfielder being a runner (Park or Hargreaves from 08 or Fletcher). Instead Sir Alex played with Giggs and Anderson in 09 and Giggs and Carrick in 2011 which was suicidal in midfield.
I’m sure if United had played their regular 4-3-3 / 4-5-1 shape they played in the 08 campaign and 09 campaign - they would have won the 09 final on the counter.
Any time I dont have to deal with Joel's United trolling or Arsenal over hyping, I'm celebrating. Keep the non-Joel on screen content coming 😉😂😂
Jokes aside, this vid makes me want to just have Pep and Fergie talk to each other about the 2009 and 2011 finals. Would be a football masterclass.
Would also be nice if Guardiola talked with Evra about those two games. Or the other two occasions when Guardiola's Bayern knocked him out of the Champions League against United and Juventus. If I was Pep, I would thank Evra for giving the ball away 25 yards from Juventus' goal in added time which led to a Bayern equalizer that took the game to extra time.
@@positional_play even his voice is ugly bruh. The way he talks compared to Steve, Rio is just ugly. Not to hate on the guy
But his voice isn’t meant for media
I support United, and I think Joel is great m8. United deserve to be laughed at the moment, no lie
@@positional_play found Joel's burner account 😉🤣
first goal was scored by pedro , real hero for barcelona

That Barca side was one of the BEST CLUB FOOTBALL TEAM EVER
Sir Alex the best 🔥🔥
Do a breakdown of the 2017 ucl final
As i say we would of had 2 more champions league titles if it wasn't for this team they are the best team that have ever been
I Never see anywhere that people talk about Ronaldo like this
Fergie went toe-to-toe with that team and that was what messed us(United) up…. He should’ve parked the bus🫢
Yeah after Rooney's goal United should've parked the bus and praying it's still 1-1 till the final whistle and try luck on pens.
I’d love to see pep at Bayern when he tried to go man to man with messi Suarez neymar. Would be great to analyse.
I also still have nightmares about this game.
Can't wait to hear Maguire analyze the Villareal game
Would love to see this for juve v barca 2015
The first goal that Rio talking about scored by Pedro not D villa
I remember this game the only man united player with Balls was Rooney all the others players where scar to apply against messi
I said it then and I’ll say it now - Berbatov should’ve started that game 100%. The man was coming off the back of his best ever season, top scorer in the Prem and was oozing confidence. His skill set and attributes would’ve immensely helped us slow the game down a bit, and give Barcelona a way different dynamic to have to cope with. Like Rio said, we played into their hands but that was how we played at the time, even SAF admitted later on that leaving out Berba was one of his biggest regrets… a shame
i think we also maybe missed fletcher in that mid
I think there was a way to beat the 2009 barca team. Chelsea practically played better than them in the Semi final but you had to be clinical. That Eto'o goal killed Utds morale - game over.
2011 was just one way traffic man.
People tend to forget when talking about those midfield three that, yes they were amazing, the best midfield three I've seen, but none of them would have been that great in a two. They had specific roles, like all midfields do now, which complemented each other. None of them were the complete package.
🤔 never thought about that but you are 100% right
Disagree. Iniesta was just as good with Rakitic alongside him. Furthermore, in Guardiola's first season Toure, not Busquets, was the pivot with Iniesta and Xavi acting as 8s/10s.
@@positional_play Iniesta played in a midfield two with Rakitic?
That’s why zidane is the greatest midfielder of all time! He had it all
Agreed (maybe other than Iniesta who had everything IMO) and this is why I feel that Pep doesn't get enough credit for this team. He released great players, like Deco, in order to put in players with less pedigree who suited his style of play. Having the great players is one thing, but plenty of other teams have had superstars across the board and not been nearly as successful.
But I guess like Ferguson said “if they’d stuck to what I wanted them to do we would have won but they panicked “and he’s right when we stuck to his tactics we were winning! But some of the players playing baffles me! Why no Scholes?
Messi was literally God that season❤️
Rome was worse for me as a united fan as our team was better than it was in 2011. But in 2011 they were just on another level.
The two legs vs Barcelona in 2008 was the blueprint. Why Ferguson abandoned those tactics & play right into Guardiola hands? Maybe/probably Utd do not beat that Barcelona team regardless.
Barca from 2008 and 2009 are two completely different teams.
This match happen the night of my school prom night, watched it and ruined my prom 😭😂😂

Fergie got the tactics wrong in that 2011 final. Why he chose to play a 2 man midfield of Giggs and Carrick, with Park and Valencia as the wide men against that Barca team baffles me. A 3 man midfield, with wingers who can tuck in with only Rooney up top would've been the better way to go. At least for the first 60 minutes.
