Klipsch Reference R-12SW Subwoofer Review - Strong Output, Great Price

  • In this video, I review the Klipsch Reference R-12SW Subwoofer. This is a ported 12 inch subwoofer with Klipsch's typical design esthetic. If you can get this subwoofer for close to what I paid, it's a steal. Also, this sub is not really a killer sub and you will not be in any danger if you buy it. Just seeing if anyone reads these.

    I just received one of the Klipsh R-12SW subs. I waited for it to get used to my ambient home temp and connected it, turned it to on and waited to send a signal from my Denon. It rocked nicely and for the purchase price I am very happy at this point. It blends nicely with the R-5,s (not like the 15) but it doesn't p**s of my Wife. Thanks for the review.

    Nice video and nice find on this deal. I got the same SB2000 and two PB2000s in my theatre. SVS is well worth the money but this one is going to my brother for his system since he is a "Klipsch Guy" we all pray for him, but it will at least pass the WAF as it matches the 5 Klipsch speakers he has now. Great review! I have been considering this subwoofer to pair with The Fives. I am trying to decide whether it would be best to get the wireless version ($229), for easier placement on my living room, or just the standard version (currently $170) ? If I can just place the subwoofer closer to the speakers, I think wired would work, but if otherwise I have to place it all the way where the seating area is, then I would want to avoid cables... I am new to audio systems.. where do you think is the best placement for the sub? Thank you!

    • @Upscaled_Reviews
      @Upscaled_Reviews  Před 2 lety +5

      Typically subwoofers are placed in the front on the room on the left or right. You can places subs in the back by the seating area but you may need to play with the phase switch, which is like a delay. If the sub is in the front leave the phase on 0 degrees. In the back, you can try 180 degrees and see if it sounds louder.

I had the Klipsch 115 sub which is 3 times the woofer as this and I had problems with the amp overheating and twice had to replace it. Klipsch has excellent customer service and does stand behind their product. They replaced the amp twice outside of warranty for free. But I would not buy Klipsch again. Good stuff. I just got the same one. With only one out put from my receiver, should I just connect my cable to the white (left) input of the subwoofer or should I get a "Y" adopter to plug into both (left and right) inputs of the Sub? What do you think the best settings in the rear are for a theater room size 12x18?

    • @Upscaled_Reviews
      @Upscaled_Reviews  Před rokem +1

      You just connect the one cable into the input that says lfe. Without a calibration microphone and software like REW, it would be hard to adjust the subwoofer but I can give a few pointers. I would place the sub where you want to put it, set the crossover knob to the max position, and set the gain to about 11-12 o’clock. Set the phase toggle at 0 degrees and listen to some bassy music or a very bass heavy movie. You can also use the pink noise that’s generated by your level control on your receiver. Get a good idea of how it sounds at 0 degrees. Than set it to 180 degrees and see if it sounds louder. If it sounds louder, leave it at 180. If it’s lower, leave it at 0 degrees.

    Honestly, port placement doesn't mean much. If you want your sub tight against the wall, front facing ports are better. If you like your sub in a corner out from the wall around 12" or more then rear-facing ports are ideal. Me personally i like sealed boxes better because i favor tight accurate bass response for music. Right now im running a parts express spa-1000 watt plate amp with a 12" down firing kicker solo baric L75 in a sealed box that i built from ¾" MDF that i covers in cherry veneer to match our furniture. Hits pretty low for a sealed box. Because i cant leave anything alone im thinking about building another sealed box with a 15" passive radiator.

    Nice review however, You placed a sub that was not corrected in a corner of you room????? This will have a negative impact of the sub’s response. Also, ported enclosures doesn’t require as much power as a sealed enclosure therefore, you reduce the output significantly by trying to plug the port. Finally, the port should be further away from the wall than 9”.
