- Demonstrating my free woodshop layout guide to make a woodshop layout in around 3 minutes! I made this DIY guide to help you plan your shop and maximize your space! Packed with tips, templates and scale machine models. This lets you plan your ideal woodworking dream shop without using difficult modeling software. If you can copy and paste, you can use this guide!
This shop layout planning guide consists of a free PDF with an embedded powerpoint. The PowerPoint file contains scale machine templates and grid templates so that you can copy, paste, rotate and design your shop digitally.
Save time and your back by trying out layouts digitally or planning your dream shop on paper. I know that we're all trying to Maximize our shop space, nomatter what area we have to work in. My goal is to provide you with a user-friendly tool to help you do exactly that!

Thanks for this Chris, great effort from your side. Need to sort out my workshop and get it re-organised. Too much space makes for too much clutter.

Thanks I will be giving this a try. My second shop will have two parts. A 10' wide X 6' deep shed with workbench on back wall and a lathe stand on the right wall. Most of the balance of floor space will be for mobile bench top tools with stands on casters. These tool will roll out of the shed into a 10' X 10' open but covered space just a few feet away.

Nice work. Is it possible to individually scale the various tools to actual size you may have ?
Somewhat. Each machine is an image in the PowerPoint. The sizing is already to scale with the grid based on the machine models used. Each image can be stretched or cropped or rotated to represent your actual machines. You can also add shapes to represent other items that may be in your shop.

I have an Imac. Will your downloadable PowerPoint layout tool work on an Imac?
As long as your software can open/ read a powerpoint file. The file starts as a .pdf with attached PowerPoint. There is some open source presentation software if you don't have Microsoft office

Link to "Free shop layout planning tool" gets a 404 error when clicked. But, boy, the "plans" link takes one to super expensive plans.
Mike, try going direct to my website. The woodworking resources page also has the planning guide file. Yes, one of my combination sets of plans I sell for $30. It is 13x sets of plans and I have over a thousand hours making them. I've had people suggest I charge more.
