    I always thought that drawing will give me problems until I realized that actually making grids is real pain in the ass. Especially on A3 format where I have to grid whole freaking paper in 5 x 5 mm for art class.

    What’s the best pencil to use for drawing your grid that will blend away or erase the best?

    • @Axnzo
      @Axnzo Před 11 měsíci

      You should use lighter grade of pencil compared to the pencil grade you'll be using to do the actual drawing.

      When you edit a photo in your phone usually the crop setting places a grid over the image. Screen shot it and then on your paper, draw the same grid proportions. Hope that helps!

    Can I add something?
    You said a light pencil is best. That somewhat correct.
    Doing grid is a make or break process.
    Meaning, it can help tremendously help in right proportions and scaling pictures. Or….it can destroy it if you use the wrong pencil with the wrong pressure when doing thd grid itself.
    So….. use a soft lead, which is a darker result. But……the key is a very light touch. So to not indent the paper. Because if you were to indent it, the end product, you will see the grid lines and all the erasing in the world won’t fix the damage paper.
    The soft lead with light touch will not only save the paper, but make it easy to erase.
    If you use a light hard lead to grid. You would need a stronger pressure just to see the grid marks. Then you’d also damage the paper.
    Soft lead, light touch to grid is best.

    I'm not sure what I expected, but this wasn't it. I know how to use a ruler and a straight edge, but my results are never "perfect" when I try to draw a grid. After watching this video I still can't draw a perfect grid.

      Take your time and measure. It takes lots of practice. I found that having a desired size of each square helpful. For example, use 1 inch squares and make 1 inch tick marks across both top and bottom. Join the marks one at a time.
      Her idea for centering the outline was spot on. Once you find out the center, you can make the actual grid any size you want.
      This is a slow process, and you have to measure often.

      @Alalias Před 19 dny

      @@barbaramatthews4735 Thanks for your reply. I think you're right, it is a slow process that does take practice. I was hoping there was a trick that would enable me to get it right quickly and on the first attempt. Nope. Even using graph paper as a reference with the spacing lined out exactly as I want I get squares that vary in size. Fortunately it isn't something I have to do often because putting ink (or pencil or paint) on paper just isn't in my skill set and I suspect it would take more practice than I'm willing to do. (My handwriting is illegible even to me and I've had lots of practice doing that.) However, I will review the part about centering the outline to see if it applies or is helpful for my needs.
