Ed's crew is eating a seabird when Stede walks in. That's supposed to be VERY bad luck-- seabirds were thought to contain the souls of sailors who've recently died-- and it says a lot about how desperate the crew is, and how long it's been since they've been ashore to replenish their food storage, that they're doing this. Especially since they think at this point in the story that they've killed Ed!
The line "What did you do to me when I was out? anything weird?" makes me so sad, because when we learn who's present with Ed, and that this was his boss when he was an adolescent and young adult, it's kind of like learning that he's never had an authority figure he could trust enough to sleep soundly. It's also some useful context: piracy is normally full of horrors, it's just that our eyes are tuned to how Stede does piracy. By Hornigold's standards, everything that Ed did while spiraling was at worst *basic*. To Archie, who joined Ed's crew after he was already spiraling, life on Ed's ship seems to be normal.
