Amongst Marty's early influences was a blind Country singer Pete Cassell. This is a song written by Pete and comes from Marty's 1957 album 'Marty Robbins.'
so many years have passed since i first heard this song, still it remains one of my very favorites. now at age 71 i still listen to it on a regular basis. Marty will remain with Jolson my very favorite singers of all time- Paul, in Waterford Ontario, Canada
Timeless classic from one of the greatest singers and entertainers in the game. Great to hear this again, faultless as ever. Long live Marty Robbins, gone but never forgotten. Thanks for the share.
I'm a big Marty fan. My aunts went to school with him. Thanks for sharing this tune. I plan on doing it with my local Marty tribute group. Keeping his music alive in AZ!
I remember the day Bill Johnson died, because I was attempting to find out where he had he retired to; I thought that if I could find him, I would tell him how valuable his soft style of carefully following the melody line had been to a pedal steel beginner. But he could tear it up too on the C6 neck. He had a terrific solo on "The Shoe Goes on the Other Foot Tonight." Thank goodness for all the pictures of his playing along with Marty Robbins. With affectionate thanks. Tim.
+Jean Bennett. Dear Ms. Bennett, So glad to hear Ms. Ruth is Still with us. I saw Your Dad, Mr. Pete many times at the Old WSB Barndance back in the 40s & he was is, & will always be my Favorite Singer. I talked with Mr. Cotton Carrier a few years ago before he passed away & he said your Mom then; was residing in Jacksonville Fl. I am Positive I have Ever song recorded by your Dad on old 78s & also The Only Lp ever produced with his material on it. These are amonst my most Prized Posessions. Thank you so much for posting on her & may God Bless. Jerry V. North Georgia :-)
+JERRY VANDIVER Thank you for your kind comments. It is wonderful to know that my dad still has loyal fans. I am sorry to let you know that my dear mom passed away on May 28, 2015 in Jacksonville, FL at the age of 92. She lived a long and a wonderful life and we were blessed to have her with us for such a long time.
Thank You Ms. Josephine Very Much. I come from a time when 'Musicians & Performers had a true gift of talent and I have always tryed to keep their memories & endeavors going on. To me, The 40s & 50s were the Golden Age of Country & Western Music & Its 'Stars'. Mr. Cassell was truly 'One' That had Both Talent & a Heart To Perform It. God Bless All. Jerry
I have always loved Pete Cassells singing. I had no idea anyone of his family was still around. God bless Jean and family. Your dad was an inspiration and I;ve tried to copu his singing.
Is that a mini Martin guitar he’s playing? Or maybe a classical guitar… He is amazing…a perfect voice…and a perfect showman! We are blessed that he did what he did….
Recently I heard that my friend Jack Pruett had died. There are not many of Marty's older band members left. When I read through all of the wonderful comments I see about Marty and his music I also see that many people are hurting due to the loss and seperation of loved ones. The Apostle Paul said that, "Death will be the last enemy to be defeated." Make sure you are ready when Jesus returns. It could be any day now. Don't buy any green bananas!
Steel Guitarist Bill Johnson was actually buried today in Alabama. He wrote one of the great classic country ballads 'A Wound Time Can;t Erase' which Marty mystifyingly never cut. On piano is Bill Pursell.
I cant say the last time I heard a song performed with so much feeling. Marty sure knew how to touch our hearts. Congratulations to that band behind him. Does anyone know the piano and steel players names. Thank for sharing. Molly (Scotland)
This was 1 of Mr. Petes most requested songs. Saw him perform it on the WSB Bardance In Atlanta back in the 40s. He has always been My Very Favorite Country Vocalist. But he was from my part of Georgia__So why Not :-)
@tarquin45 Tarquin, as you know I'm a steel picker too and I knew Bill, not well but I knew him. I think the reason Marty never recorded that song was that it had already been recorded by so, so many other artists. I do think he did it on some of his live shows and would introduce Bill as the writer. I overheard Marty one time talking back stage at the Opry about another song he didn't record saying that it had been over recorded already; I can't remember the song though.
Sinatra, Crosby, Como and Cole never sang this song. The song they sang was from the 1920's 'Oh How I Miss You Tonight.' Jim Reeves also sang it. I hope this clears any confusion with exactly the same song titles.
I am fan number 1 of Cowboy Marty... However, I really don't like to listen to this music... I ALWAYS must to cry😢😢😢. That is not so good when you have make up... And yes, I have it right now.... 😂😂😂😂😂
I'm a big Marty fan. My aunts went to school with him. Thanks for sharing this tune. I plan on doing it with my local Marty tribute group. Keeping his music alive in AZ!

no one will ever come up to all the old country singers of old i love them all and still do even though they are all up there behind the pearly gates
the ten who put thumbs down wouldn't know talent if it slapped them in the face. Martin's was a rare gift from God
simply stunning love marty nobody else can sing better than him
so many years have passed since i first heard this song, still it remains one of my very favorites. now at age 71 i still listen to it on a regular basis. Marty will remain with Jolson my very favorite singers of all time- Paul, in Waterford Ontario, Canada

@tarquin45 This was my first lp of Marty's and easily my favorite. Any chance you can upload some more selections from it?
the title of the album is double barrelled by marty robbins and the song man walks among us
@tarquin45 Damn, that sucks to hear about this. I love that song especially the way Loretta Lynn did it on the Wilburn Bros. show.
@B regard arbyCurtis70 the song about a eagle perhaps is man walks among us from double barreled album
Bing Crosby, Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin were great singers but they couldn't sing this song as good as Marty.
Wow… this is a nice “break” from the MM … BS
Not true I can sing that song just like him true
I'm a big Marty fan. My aunts went to school with him. Thanks for sharing this tune. I plan on doing it with my local Marty tribute group. Keeping his music alive in AZ!
