About Iliya: From a young age Iliya pursued training in the arts in the Russian academic tradition. Originally from Odessa, Ukraine, he immigrated to the United States in the early 1990’s with his family. Iliya studied in St. Petersburg, Russia in the prestigious I.E. Repin State Institute of Painting, Sculpture, and Architecture from which he received his Masters of Fine Arts degree in painting. He won the First Place award in the American Portrait Society’s International Portrait Competition. In his paintings he aims to connect the Russian aesthetic with American sensibilities, creating images that go beyond their origins. In his words, “My goal is to isolate the principles that have shaped my perception of the world around me, and use them, in the words of B. Pasternak, ’to reach to the very core.’”

Not only is he an amazing incredible artist, but it's also obvious from his newer videos that he continues to face and defeat his speech impediment in order to share his masterful skills with people. Huge respect. It would have to take so much courage and determination to do that

To be honest I thought it was just lagging on my end, the way he talks when he doesn't stutter is so fluent.

i am myself a stutterer with the same type and man i gotta say he has amazing control over his anxiety coz if it were me i couldnt draw while i have to put effort on my speeching as well. amazing

As somebody who's has had minor speach impediment and how it has affected my confidence it's amazing to see this guy up there
You shouldn't have any issues with your confidence. There isn't a single perfect human being.All have issues way worse than speech. You are in a better position than most people.I wish I had a friend like you!
8 minutes in I knew he was good. I always liked polish and russian painters and classical composers. It's a dramatic sadness in the work that gives you a sense of realism like no other. This artist like myself is a master at anatomy. Thank you my friend for sharing your work with us , brilliant . 👍👍

An amazingly talented artist.My highest regards for his courage and his strength of his Drawing Mastery to overcome his speech problems. It does not anyway distract the viewer.

In response to several requests during the livestream to place the camera so it sees exactly what he sees: It's impossible. He would be in the way then - all you'd see is his back! I suppose they could have taken a picture with him out of the way and just keep showing that, but it would lack that live quality then.

I am joining the NMA specifically to take this Russian Academic Drawing course offered by Mr. Mirochnik. If you go to the site this course is VERY extensive. I would also add that I have read reviews elsewhere from other Artists/Students that it is a fantastic course.
i like how you balances your hand with your little finger when you lay down the lines. It totally makes sense the it adds control to your sketch.

Isaac O. H. It looks like a Mount Vision pastel... they are larger and harder than other soft pastels... I could be wrong though

The artist looks at this model at a slightly different angle than we do. The model's right eye and the space behind her ear is from our viewpoint slightly different. I've noticed this after a view minutes.
Correct. The model and camera can’t possibly view the scene the same way because iliya’s head would be in the way of the shot.

Christian Cotugno Iliya will measure angles and distances though not as often as you would see with some methods. He breaks down the ENTIRE process in his huge upcoming course on NMA.art which launches this month

The idea is that you should break down what you see in your mind and construct it on paper/canvas. If you were to sight size then you're not learning constructivism.

I'll be honest I saw "Iliya" and "Russian" and immediately thought this was Ilya Kuvshinov
I wonder if he speaks more easily in Russian. You can see he really struggles with s-s, maybe they are pronounced differently in Russian.
going by the stuttering around his own name, i think it's just a speech impediment. doesn't take away from the overall instruction though.
I agree. This course is by far the best course on the entire platform. I would go as far as to say that not only his instruction is on another level, but his personal work is as well.
