  • New Masters Academy instructor Steve Huston is an internationally renowned painter and draftsman who has worked for such clients as Caesar’s Palace, MGM, Paramount Pictures and Universal Studios and has taught drawing and painting at Disney, Warner Brothers, and Dreamworks Studios.
    Tonight he is hosting a FREE event, demonstrating his technique for drawing the portrait and the figure from a LIVE model, while answering questions from the audience!

    When you listen Steve Huston it is not just about drawing. It is about a philosophy of life and the human nature. This is how you recognize a Master.

    Thank you for mentioning Gottfried Bammes! I kept wondering why anyone recommends the Loomis method and Bridgman when you've got Bammes' work, which is much more helpful and refined.

    The Model is amazing. unique. Thanks for your teaching. I remember hearing- Movement contains form- (David Leffel). An alternative to gradation.

    I was at the grocery store and ran into Sammie Falkner and somehow brought your name up, and I asked "the awesome artist?" she said yes we went to high school with you! I had seen some of your talks and Its crazy how familiar you sounded. Even though I don't think we knew each other, but what a small world. love your videos!

    I wonder where the overhead camera is, the desk is at an angle and the camera is not visible in the wideshot. Very good quality, would be interested to see how its set up.

    I wonder where the camera is that is capturing his drawing? Steve is one of my favorite teachers and inspirations. I steal from him a lot :)

      its just outside of the frame in the top left above his shoulder, perpendicular to the table.

      Thanks. Is it on a tripod? I was thinking it was mounted to the ceiling because I couldn't see any camera when watching the video.

      nah a crane so it can be adjusted. we use it for class too which is super useful

      Matt Haverly haha. Yes that’s a common way to train in LA. It helps you focus on the big gestures and shapes and gives you no time to “copy” which is a bad habit

    What drafting table is Steve Huston using? I cannot seem to find one like his, it's perfect. I'm growing tired of drawing on a Belgium drawing horse.

      If you want to be employed as an artist then you need to learn to draw . But if you do art for fun then abstract is fine if you enjoy it
