Brilliant! Thorough test! Subbed!!!
Keep doing what your doing, your channel will blow up in good way!
Thanks for the positive feedback 👍
Thank you for all the work you have to put in for these videos, it might be a bit of a niche but definitely appreciated by those who care I'm sure
Thanks mate, appreciate the feedback 👍
Absolutely, he’s a legend. Where else could we get actual data on fishing line, not from the manufacturers, that’s for sure.
subscribed! this is the one and only! really apreciate this great work! you deserve more subscriber
Thanks! Appreciate it 👍
Great work, thanks
Me gusta tu canal, muy buen video💪💪💪
So yeah 15lb real world breaking strain.
That's what I want on my packaging.
Great!!
I think it is not available in Europe 😐
I saw that you updated the Braid Summary with the 68 lines, thanks for all the work Tim.
Thanks! From what I can tell this appears to an Australia only release.
Correct, I heard Taka from Daiwa Australia talk about this on the Bream Fishing Project podcast
@@yep.fishing And i actually saw somebody ask this question on Daiwas' release video of the Expedition. They responded saying its Oz only.
@@thelinelaboratoryits released in norway too
Hey awesome video great experiment . Greatly appreciated. Maybe you should try some of the famous varias PE line like Varias casting Varias Hiramasa too!
Thank you! We have published videos on 5 different Varivas lines, including the Avani Casting and the Hiramasa tune
love it mate, would be good if you could add a delta figures/table for your summaries. Rated vs actual break, quoted vs actual diameter average and so on. Some of the variances are a bit crazy to me and it'd be good to get an idea of the consistency between brands and their ranges.
I certainly have all that data and could add it in. Do you mean a percentage difference like "+50% Actual break vs Rated", or an absolute figure like "+13.6lbs". I am also concerned about the summary table getting too big and unreadable, I was trying to limit the data to the bare essentials.
@@thelinelaboratoryI think the way you portray the data is very good. I would like to see if there’s any engineering/physics explanation about what makes a good or poor knot strength & how the abrasion test affects lines.
Great
tried it out today got the 40pound its so freaking smooth when you cast it strange how dry it stays did a 5 hour casting sesh with it got two wind knots but only because i need to take abit of line off the top of the spool overall its a big step up from power pro
Good to know! I am yet to try it but it sure looks good in the tests.
So is most braid 😆
I think you need to replace the rubber at the ends of your testing rig with smooth metal, the braid will dig into the rubber and cause it to chafe. You can see the line break at the end on the rubber.
Solid performer, but you would expect that as a consumer with costing 20% more thsn J Braid Grand. Good video mate
Absolutely 👍
Thank you!!! 10lbs would be highly appreciated if possible!!!
What lb leader do you use with the fg knot test? And is it mono?
Yes it is mono, and for this test it was 40lb. I have a few spools of cheap leader line and I choose one that is close to the estimated breaking strain of the braid, and would be logical to use in the real world. Ie: don't use 80lb leader on 8lb braid.
Please try the 8lb jbraid expedition, i’m currently using it on a finesse setup but im finding the old 8lb jbraid Grand alot better, im curious what the test results will show
I would say the main reason for that is that grand is a big outlier with its size. 8lb grand is PE1. Whereas expedition pe1 is 12lb and 8lb expedition is PE .6. try the 12lb expedition, it should be similar to the older 8lb grand with the same PE size. That's what I did and found the performance about the same. I Find Expedition to hold FG better and easier but flip side wind knots hold better too 😢.
@@25LQW yeah you’re 100% correct cause ive switched to 10lb expedition and love it. 8lb is quoted 0.06mm in diameter and 10lb is quoted 0.10mm and eventhough its only a 2lb difference the extra diameter definitely helps heaps with abrasion resistance
@@aydenpezz9603 still going a step lighter. 8lb grand = .13. 12lb expedition = .13. Both PE1. That small difference is big. Tight lines.
Do you wet the knot when tying, I still have this habit from the old days of mono of using a bit spit to lubricate a knot, a close up look at mono near the knot without lubrication shows the line deformed (from friction & overheating?). Would mono to braid suffer and affect results if you’re not using the exact same mono for all tests? Is the braid always breaking in the knot tests and if not (because the mono breaks) does the break still get recorded as a braid failure? Sorry for all the questions. 🤓
I don't wet the knot, i am not sure its important for an FG but i am happy to be proven wrong. I use the same brand of mono for all tests, just change the strength to reflect the line i am testing, I also try to keep the braid/leader combination realistic, like i wont use 80lb leader on 8lb braid for the test. I do have to take an educated guess on what leader is close to the knot break for each line, and occasionally i get it wrong and the leader will break first. if that happens those test are discarded and i will retie with the next strength up leader. Only tests where the braid breaks are included.
Please test sufix sfx x8
It seems to me, the rounder the x8 braid is, the better the FG holds. Is this a noticeable trend in comparison with other rounder braid products?
Such a great and well executed test, very informative! But at this high level of production value, please watch out for typos like the actual diameter is +27.5% of the claimed one and not +127.5% as displayed twice in the video.
Yes agreed and somebody pointed this out before so i updated the way i represent those numbers in later videos.
@@thelinelaboratory Thanks & please keep up the great work. Your videos are extremely useful 🙂
Tasline v j braid expedition pls
Could you test Sunline FC Rock Fluorocarbon.
Absolutely if I can get my hands on a sample.
@@thelinelaboratory I know its pretty common here, and cheap considering how much you get. heaps of guys I know use it.
@@jimmyrecard6021hint, hint, send him 10 m mate. I am sure it’s too expensive buying whole spools when only a sample is required to suit all the commenter’s wishes.
Colors fading , daiwa j braid x4 & 8 just fade away , yozuri super braid 5 color 5-8 color is gone , loading up daiwa saltiga pe 11lb
Can’t find this anywhere in the US
Daiwa confirmed its Australia only.
It looks like the test results on the web page for the pe1 and pe1.2 expedition braid are reversed. That has to be a packaging error?
I agree - the maximum break seems to be backwards with the PE1 breaking higher than the 1.2, but the FG and Abrasion tests are where I would expect them to be. Average Diameter was only 1/100th millimeter difference so not much in it. I went back and reviewed all the videos of the tests to ensure I didn't mix them up and nope, those are the correct results for each line based on my tests.
@@thelinelaboratory regardless i think this will be the new braid im going to try.
@@tapwater9843 Yep definitely worth a shot for sure. I have it on 2 rods now and so far its been excellent.
Btw wasnt questioning your tests man they seem to be extremely accurite and precise.
@@tapwater9843 Nope all good, never took it that way 👍
I just bought 40lb PE3 which should be around 0.28mm, but on the box it says 0.22mm. The PE rating makes no sense for this braid. Anyways it's silky smooth and super tightly wound.
What lbs test was the leader to braid?
Not 100% sure but I think 40lb
How does it compare to daiwa PE lines ?
From my testing its the best overall of the Daiwa braids. You can see all the data here: linelaboratory.com/braid-summary/ just order by brand and compare all the Daiwa.
@thelinelaboratory that info needs a video by its self , have to try varivas. Just Got some daiwa saltiga durasensor
I have Yet to see this on sale here in USA
May never be available there, Daiwa mentioned it was an Australia only release.
Please test owner kizuna x8
I have tested it, video is in the backlog to be released
@@thelinelaboratoryCool!! Thanks pal, really appreciate it.. Waiting for the video 👍
does anybody know wheir to get this in the usa?
I don't believe it is available outside of Australia based on what Daiwa has stated. Maybe you can import some?
@@thelinelaboratory im 13 how would i import something what does it even mean to import something? the only word i know is bass
]
My only suggestion would be to get onto an Australian fishing shop website that stocks this and see if they can send it to the US.
@@thelinelaboratory how did your obtain yours can you give any exmaples?
I am in Australia so walked into a shop and bought it. As an example these guys have it www.anglerswarehouse.com.au/daiwa-j-braid-expedition-x8-braid-line-300m-multi but I don't know if they post international. You will just need to look around.
It is not a 15 lb line
Looking at its actual diameter test it is 0.2pe to which it becomes 20lb line and brakes at 18lb in the test . Which if fine
Every line out there seems to break 2-3 lb less then it’s actual claimed lb.
AKA #230, I'll stick to the Grand
sorry but 1,2 pe is 0,185. and 15 lb is 6.8 kg... they make us fools on the continents...but like your contents
