I've ALWAYS gotten a real kick out of the chimes in these 505's. Very similar to the ones that Hyundai, Nissan & Subaru used to use, but at a MUCH faster pace.
Had one of these with the three speed automatic. Man was that a great car! Got between 35 and 40 MPG on the highway, handled like a dream, rode over potholes and bumps like they weren't there, and had the biggest trunk I have ever seen. Seats and mirrors were heated. Sunroof. Lots of torque and fast enough. Hold the brake on and rev the engine, and it would come off the line plenty quick when you released the brake. Wish I could get another one just like it. Not to mention the elegant styling. Never seen headlights like that anywhere else.
America really lost an outstanding brand with Peugeot. The old 505 diesels could run forever. Definitely more reliable than VW (at least from my perspective exept for the 90's that's when VW had their glorious time).
I remember the round head lights. Wish I had one that’s fully restored to original but I know that will never happen. I hear Peugeot is returning to the US. Not sure which ones will be sold here.
These engine in 2.1, 2.3, 2.5 and 2.5 Turbodiesel configuration was also used on various european Ford models like the Granada, Sierra and Scorpio. In the Scorpio it soldiered on until 1992 when it was replaced by a more modern engine from italian VM.

Hah, saw this (exact) car parked in the garage at the Greenwich Concours, I really dig it!

Very nice! Paint job looks great and that diesel really purrs. I have an '88 505 STX and ironically I also live in CT
Used to be a lot of them up here unfortunately rust did them in. I should also add the lack of parts.
@@peugeot505man Thankfully mine was a southern car, but even then it's got some underside rust
You’re fortunate. I have always loved them when most people didn’t even know what they were

I actually wish I had that car... Or a Peugeot 405 Mi16... (A french Honda Accord)
Me too. I always wanted one but never got to have. I remember them well before sales ended here in the USA

They were even available in the Soviet GAZ M24 Volga as sold in western Europe.
I had a 505 srd and then 505 gttd and then many years later a Rover 820 diesel with the VM diesel it was extremely powerful when rpm's where high
Peugeot and Citroën *diesel* engines are incredible reliable!

Très belle Voiture sobre et tenue de route jamais de panne ❤
My dad had one, amazing memories. Would you be interested in selling?
I had the 87 Peugeot with the four cylinder gas motor I wish I could find another one 505 it would run too
Nice! I certainly prefer the early dash over my '88 model
Yea me too, my dad likes the later dash though. Is yours a gas or diesel?
@@peugeot505man Mine's a GTD, with the 2.5 turbo diesel

Poo-zhot? Peu-joe? Pew-get?
I think Pew-get but I am not even sure.
In Australia, most people say "Purr-zhoe", but my mechanic (an old French guy) says "Poo-zhoh" so I'd say that's probably more on the money 😂
