  • It's a nostalgic trip down memory lane for me as I build the Monogram offering of deep ocean transport, as seen in the TV series SeaQuest DSV. The show had an unprecedented two-season order out of the gate.

That show was such a Huge Thing for me, as a kid!
But the irony of watching one of the creators - focused on CGI effects Only, at the time - build a miniature version of one of the ships, is Not Lost on me.

    Project is looking great!
Thanks for the behind the scenes info! Seaquest was one of my favorites and still is. I have it on DVD and pop it in and watch it every now and then. And your right, just like another great show Battlestar Galactica way ahead of its time. I have in my collection here every one of those kits from Seaquest. I have the Seaquest herself the dolphin shaped one man sub Darwin a real dolphin and the kit you're building now. Bought them all when they first came out. Told myself I wouldn't build them till I had the skill and knowledge to light them and mostly the technology. Back then it was hard to find small lighting systems. Then life happened to get in the way and they've been in my ever growing collection of unbuilts. But that's good because now my skills and technology have caught up. Time to dig them out.

Thoroughly enjoyed that. It's look amazing. You know you should do a Producers commentary for the pilot episode of Seaquest DSV. Those anecdotal stories always captivate me.

I had the Seaquest years ago. It didn't survive the moves between air bases, unfortunately. I was proud of the paint job I did on it.

When I received notification of the new episode, my initial reaction was, "What an odd kit for Phil to do." Your intro cleared all of that up, and I found your commentary about the show very interesting (and I bet you have more great stories). The build is a fine example of taking a mediocre kit and making it into something special.

Really enjoyed hearing the background and your involvement in producing Seaquest Phil. I remember watching the original episodes as they screened each week. If I recall correctly one of the characters had a Miami or Florida World Series champions hat or shirt that in reality the actual team ended up winning within a year or two of the date on the costume. Keep up the great work. You helped inspire me to start building again after a 20 hear hiatus!

Can't like this video enough. Seaquest was a large part of my childhood Saturday evenings in the UK and now I'm 'slightly' older I spend my time gathering every piece of Seaquest merch and memorabilia I can. Please continue these sequest builds. Have you ever considered doing a behind the scenes book or making of video for CZcams about Seaquest?

This was just nice-- interesting odd decision about the clear sides. As for clear parts just sitting in the box-- well, that's how they did it. The interior lighting is good fun-- well lit, though I would'a not gone for the full dark interior. I would have lightened the dark-- atmospheric distancy concept. Just to see a big more.
Yes, it is intensely cool that you were the show and this is one of those concepts. The show came along when I was indisposed to watching anything requiring a commitment of time. So I missed a lot around then. Listen, how often do you get a chance to ramble with an interested audience? Go ahead. What was Roy like? How tough was your own "Bruce," Darwin, to work with? Etc. Just what does a producer produce? C'mon, philosophize. I might understand if you speak of this only during this build, but you opened up the world of Who with your book, why not one for this? As welcome as ramble along is here, a book would collect your thoughts and digital pre-press is so much easier nowadays for photos and such.

Oh wow! This is a major blast from the past!! I think I had all (or most) of the models for this show! The DSV itself and the Stinger (i think it was?) are laying about somewhere. But this miner/transport ended up being scrapped some time ago, sadly (sad-er yet, I shoulda kept it for kitbash parts, but didn't think about it). And Darwin... idk what happened to.
Will you be doing any of the others after this, at some point?

It sounds like you've had a fascinating career. Would you ever consider putting it down in book form? Or even giving your full account from your time making 'Seasquest' and 'Star Trek'? What might seem trivial and insignificant to you may well provide better clarity.
