UP CLOSE! : The tape transport of a Sony BVH-2000 1 inch videotape machine. Here you can see the actual videotape as it makes its way from the supply reel and wraps around the head drum. What always terrifies me is how close the "jaws" of the slant guide/s position themselves to the very fast spinning head drum. Infact its mere microns from touching - another reason why the eccentricity of the upper drum is so critical since if during a revolution there was any deviation off centre then - disaster! bye bye upper drum and heads!
There is so much going on in this seemingly simple looking machine and all has to work in harmony and precisely for the outcome of a clean clear image.
