No, no, no, Daemon doesn’t look at the crown with want, he looks at it with grief. The fact that he is holding the crown is just this reminder that his brother is dead. Daemon wants the throne to stay Targaryen, and he wants Targaryens to stay as pure as possible. He hates Otto and the Hightowers. He resents Viserys for not allowing him to protect him from the likes of Otto. When Rhaenyra starts emulating Viserys, he gets frustrated and snaps, he knows that with the greens diplomacy won’t work.

22:28 I do think it is not only about softening the characters, but at the end, the books are written from the perspective of the different authors writing their historical testimonies, which with the known beef between Aemond and Lucerys, and Almond's known character and threats, makes sense that they would write in his intention of killing rather than it to be an accident.

I agree. I believe the showrunners alluded to this and said they were trying to find the truth because they knew it was men who wrote the potential viewpoints of how things went down, so there was inherent bias both toward Alicent and toward Rhaenyra in how it was written.

Alright, let's say Aemond has no intention to kill Lucerys. So what's his plan? Cut out his eye for revenge? Do you honestly think that would make it better than outright killing him? The writer always make changes from the book and that's okey, but sometime it didn't make any sense. So this war started because of misunderstanding by Allicent and accident by Aemond? How very weird and shallow.

When Aemon’s dragon starts getting a bit much, Aemon forgets to speak to it in High Valerian, and (in his panic?) starts trying to order his big fella in Common. One thing to note as well is that Aemon is trying to control Vhagar using the common tongue and not Valyrian. I may be reading too much into it, but that could be a subtle yet telling insight into the Hightowers trying to erase the Targaryen lineage from the crown and hold all the power.

i think the struggling to control the dragons thing is more nuanced and less about humanizing the violent actions and more about showing that they arent gods. they dont have perfect control of this power, even though they may act like it. although, i do think some of them are better than others (rhaenyra and daemon particularly). could be that the more diluted targaryen blood yields imperfect results.

The rain in Jurassic Park really helped make the Tyrannosaurus reveal look better. The CGI was a bit glossy at that time to the point where the dinosaurs almost had a “wet“ appearance. First revealing the tyrannosaur in the rain just made it look better in general. It doesn’t look quite as good later in the film in full daylight. It still looks amazing but the rain helped conceal the glossy look of the CGI. There were a few shots of the raptors in the kitchen that also suffered from the glossy wet look particularly because they were close shots, but they were very quick shots backed up with amazing animatronics. I love how you always reference other great films, probably my favorite thing about your channel.

This « softening » of the characters is great because it also puts into perspective the unreliable sources of those who wrote the dance of dragons in universe. To them the targaryens are god-like and most likely more evil, anyone would think of this that Aemond massacred his nephew willfully finding the remains of the boy and the small dragon and knowing Vhagar’s size, anyone could spread rumors of caved out eyes on the boy’s body, and a rumor that gets traction easily became a fact in times like this. Throughout our history, History was written by unreliable sources so it’s fun to see this added realism.

I agree, the point of Fire & Blood, is that the Westorosi maesters will take events and make bad guys and good guys, like they would do with Daenerys or Ned Stark not knowing the details we know.
It would not surprise me if GRRM told the writers it happened this way, a tragic accident because the dragons cannot be fully control, which is established even in the original novels, it honestly sounds like something he would write.

The dragons are politically the equivalent of nuclear weapons, only even more chaotic. They can decide the balance of a battle but they are intensely dangerous to their users as well as their targets.
I am just jazzed that we have a real fantasy series that does dragons right, after decades of bad attempts. You really feel the majesty of these things, and the sense of humans barely controlling a wild force of nature.
