Great to see John still hosting the show and narrating the road tests even today. God bless him.
The most reliable part of this blazerEV is the Honda badge..
So this is how you get apple carplay and android auto in a new Blazer 🤔
GM has been developing EVs for 30+ years now, so Honda's collaboration is a smart move. Meanwhile, Toyota would like to sell you a heavily discounted BZ4X... 🤣
You can't possibly include the ill-fated EV-1 in that.
Their first modern EV was the Bolt. That started development in 2012.
Based upon what has happened with GM lately, the reliability may be questionable. Beyond that, I really like the understated styling and exterior.
Lol
Does 'lately' mean a hundred years now?
Hey, my 276,000 mile 1997 Silverado would like a word! @@Noah_E
The new generation is growning up with some interesting vehicles lol
If I were a Honda engineer I’d perform a ritual seppuku having to borrow from GM technology.
But yet they had no E/V program until they asked GM, so who's more behind?..
GM already have their EV section since the 90's
_Perfect !_
Love the color. Glad to see its not a version of grey/white/black.
Honda you're breaking my heart here.
Why?
This seems much more competitive than the current electric vehicles from Toyota
Toyota is still focusing on dead-end hydrogen FCEVs convinced the public will overlook the massive disadvantages and inefficiency of hydrogen for the quick refueling and range vs BEVs. At least they have some of the best hybrids on the market.
@@Noah_Elmao i is NOT dead, not even close... but they focus on hybrids more than anything
Toyota has some of the most competitive EVs out there
@@allentoyokawa9068competitive how with the worst range and high price with mediocre style ok tech and not so good performance. Hyundai and Kia make better EVs
Toyota has one BEV out and it's objectively terrible.
It looks good because it looks normal even with regular door handles that don't pop out and will break or get stuck eventually. Likely targeted to first time EV buyers loyal to Honda and I'm glad they didn't strip down the info system like GM and kept android auto / carplay and not forcing you to buy the apps and internet connectivity from GM.
Not sure why more horsepower is needed. Does it need to qualify for the Indy?
I’m glad they didn’t go Chinese, but GM? Are there any other manufacturers Honda would collaborate with?
This is not the first time they've collaborated with another car manufacturer.
This design looks pretty decent to me. Unfortunately it won’t be available in Europe.
Don't worry, it's for the better. It's a GM underneath
I'd rather have a Saturn Vue with the Honda V6.
Really like this all the way down to the lettering of Honda, but the center screen is not balanced with the rest of the dash.
Not sure about the product, but great review as always.
In the video they say "for now all Prologue's come with an 85 kwh battery". Does anyone know, are the plans for a bigger battery on the horizon?
23.7 cuft hatch... How did they manage to fit so few in such a large vehicle?
This is not the first time that Honda and GM have partnered up to create a vehicle. Honda's first SUV sold in North America was the Honda Passport, which was a rebadged Isuzu Rodeo, and Isuzu was partners with GM at the time. Also, the 1st generation Saturn Vue had an optional 3.5L Honda V6(J35S1) for 2004-2007.
Hard to take this review seriously with the 1980’s style video production and narration. You should have shown the Prologue driving to the nearest blockbuster video store 😂
It’s too bad Honda didn’t add 4-way lumbar controls. I was waiting on the Prologue to see if it was the car for me but it seems I’ll have to settle for the ID.4 or Model Y.
Wow, this is in 2024?
Sure is a lot of whiners in this comment section
lol yes. Even people complaining about the color because everything else is pretty good.
Those people aren't the targeted buyer, I'm not sure why you'd watch a video and reply to complain since you were never interested in the vehicle. 🥴
Beautiful paint color.
Proper Intro
Felt like I was watching something from the early 90s
No quarter-mile and brake testing?
its super slow. Other reviewers did test it. It is just below 8 seconds to 60.
It wasn't at their home base in Maryland or the track in Atlanta. And it wouldn't be an honest test anyway with everywhere soaking wet.
Motortrend said 0-60 is 6 seconds for the AWD, slower than an EV6 or Ioniq 5 but the gas Honda Pilot is 6.9 so nothing to complain about. Most EVs will be faster than their gas equivalents. Someone buying an Honda Prologue isn't looking for tesla plaid performance.
Real smart making it lower considering scraping the floor mounted battery totals the car. That's GM thinking for you
I’m sure they will sell dozens of these .
Back away fast. That's a GM product.
Great review, as always. The Prologue has a lot going for it: Looks, Range and Honda name. But, Honda is already backing away from an ongoing relationship with GM. This cooperation (Prologue/ZDX) was supposed to be a first step and this baby will be an "orphan" or at least an only child.
nice to see you John!
10 minute fast charge we'll see how that pans out for the batteries
Beautiful Honda EV SUV!
Colorful
$60,000?? $60,000?? ... NO! Especially when it is GM under the hood!
They can't make a profit even at that price so what are they to do?
@@toronado455I’m willing to bet they do make a profit at that price. Hondas R&D costs for this thing are minimal since GM fronted most if not all of that cost. Probably all they paid for was tooling (minimal since it still uses the same platform) and Honda specific interior trim. This is the smartest thing Honda could’ve done; in 5 years if this thing is a flop Honda can walk away without having wasted billions in its initial development.
@@foxtrot685 Actually, you make a good point in that Honda is probably able to profit while GM actually loses money on this deal and the Blazer EV on which it's based.
People have no problem paying $60-100k for GM trucks but we've seen people having problems paying the same for a Honda (NSX 😅)..
@@toronado455 That's common. The prius was sold at a loss the first few years also, then costs kept falling until it became profitable.
Looks like a station wagon
I wouldn't trust it with GM fingers in the pie. It's a bit surprising that something that large had less max cargo space than my 2012 Honda Fit Sport which was 55 cubic feet with the seat folded.
This car is only using the Ultimium battery pack and electric motor. Everything, else, including the software, is Honda. This will be much better than GM"s problematic software just watch and see.
It’s a cheap way for Honda to have EV due to mandates in CA and soon other states.
Getting with GM could end worse for Honda than that time when they rebadged the Isuzu Rodeo into the first gen Passport.
That actually worked out really well for Honda. It got them into a segment that Honda didn’t develop for and gave them time to come up with a product that was specific for America. They didn’t have to invest a bunch of R&D, if it completely failed Honda could walk away without spending millions in tooling, R&D, materials/logistics. The Pilot that they were able to pour resources into instead is a great product, wouldn’t you agree? So is the MDX from Acura, which also replaced an Isuzu based product for the same reasons, and has been a hit ever since ;)
I remember a time when Gm and Honda were enemies
They have a common enemy now.
For what it's worth, they have partnered together in past decades. The old Saturn Vue redline had a Honda engine back in the early 2000's.
@@pasta-eo5mt I think GM should have brought back the Saturn as an all EV brand.
@@pasta-eo5mtThat's true and GM got the better end of that deal with Honda's stellar J-series v6. This time Honda is getting screwed.
Arrived at a good time when people are buying less EVs. Good job Honda...eerrr GM.
I just upgraded my fleet to EV's. Stay ignorant
This is the reason that Honda didn’t put too much R&D effort into their first U.S. EV, this sort of helped reduce risk.
They are working on their own EV platform which is supposed to launch in 2025-26 but I think that will get pushed back seeing that regulations got relaxed.
@@user-wt5bf4rw7e ignorant about wanting to refuel in less than 30 minutes, spend 10000 more than a hybrid or ICE car and want my vehicle to last longer than 7 years without a 15000 dollar repair bill. Ok I am ignorant
……Maybe in Antlers, Arkansas or Bumfunk, Montana…….but here in California there are EVs EVERYWHERE!!!! (3 new ones on my block just this month!). 🤔🤷🏼♂️😎
@@eddieg6436 because the government says you have to. NY isn't much better
The shared technology with GM should scare people away. I wouldn't by any EV.
Buy
It’s more than a model y.
Honda style with GM utter piece of doo doo reliability. Win win.
Stop F’n around Honda and just give us a 5 seater hybrid Honda Element with rear sliding doors and leave everything else the same . Plastic floors and analog gauge. and price it at 37k
Too expensive. Rather buy a used kia ev6 with little to no miles and at prices that is affordable.
Glad to see all these new electric options from
Main stream companies!!
Seeing this vehicle makes you wanna ditch Honda all together
Honda is late to the party and it’s a GM … not a winning combination
Agreed
Got that right! This vehicle is DOA.
@@tikimaka1 Reminds me of the first time Honda ventured into the SUV market with Isuzu 😆
The first and last Honda GM-based car
I was thinking the same thing, the GM part.
Will sell like hotcakes
I doubt it, due to combined GM product, pricing and E.V. market is softening .
No Sir 😂
With the help of General Motors ? Na I’m good
This car is only using the Ultimium battery pack and electric motor. Everything, else, including the software, is Honda. This will be much better than GM"s problematic software just watch and see.
Considering all of Honda's recent recalls/quality lapses, it's actually good news that it's largely a GM product.
This car is only using the Ultimium battery pack and electric motor from GM. Everything, else, including the software, is Honda. This will be much better than GM"s problematic software just watch and see.
gm didn't help them lol. What a way to offset cost in case it doesn't work out! You really think Honda will take the punch or gm?
When there’s no frunk, it’s a dump👎🏾
Had a Kia Soul EV and that's where the motor was but it was 2017, didn't think they are still making them that way, what the benefits have there while most have the fruck that makes more sense. I did like the Kia but only 100 miles range.
a lot of issues with these vehicles
WHY DO THEY ALL
LOOK
THE SAME NOW
Hell to the no............. Just like when Honda used the Isuzu Rodeo and called it a Passport in the late 90's. EV = NO
EEESH!
EVs👎
Thanks. But I don't want it. I want Honda, built by Honda. Not by American car companies because American car products don't last as long has Honda
Honda and acura helllla late
Oh gosh, talk about ruining your reputation even further. A combination with General Motors on any scale?
EVS are NOT green & they're overpriced.
They are easily junked for the most minor of damage, making everybody's insurance rates skyrocket. The list goes on & on. I am no longer enamored with Honda as I once was.
Enjoy the Motorweek episode because that's the only place you will see this car.
When I first saw one I thought it was beautiful and would do well. But that it’s electric, now not so much
Save the planet! Buy an EV! Be sure to include ginormous ridiculous 21 inch wheels that reduce your range!
Color reminds me of a janitor's closet or a water heater.
When you want the expense of a Honda, but the reliability of a Chevy. Yikes.
Put a 2.0t in there and I’ll buy one.
why spend 59k for an electric crap box when you can get a mdx a spec for the same money? these manufacturers and their e cars give it a rest we don't want them. bring back the s 2000 something worth driving
Honda Blazer-nobody will buy-made in Mexico and by GM-no thanks.
And what looks like another dumb panoramic glass roof that lowers the ceiling height that I don't want.
$48 bands for the base model and $60 bands for the nice one. That’s a tough sell. And range is mediocre at best. Hard sell for me.
that is the most annoying narrating voice I've heard for a car review.
4th
Okay I will buy it. But I will park it outside my garage. It’s a GM and might burn my house.
Meh
Toyota has backed off from EV's. Honda is pressing forward. No infrastructure, No demand, No reliability. I feel sorry for Honda.
Absolute trash $60,000 for a elite can get a tesla model y performance for $$45,000 which is way better and honda over estimates its mpg be lucky to get 200 miles of range
No. After the small number of hyper-environmentalists spend their future retirement on one of these, they'll sit - unsold - on lots, just like the 80,000 F-150s and the 120,000 Rams. Like it or not, most people are not buying into the EV hysteria.
I maybe oneday i would buy a electric vehicle if it had long battery range like 500mile per full charger and a quick recharge than so you wont having to wait all day to charger it up!!
None of them take all day, the Hyundai / Kia ones will do 20% to 80% in under 20 minutes, then to 90% is maybe 25 minutes. Most other modern EVs are 25-45 minute range to charge to 80% or more. But most people charge at home as needed and never need to wait to charge. Also the average person drives around 38 miles a day so there isn't much of a need for 500 miles of range, it would add too much cost for something that isn't needed by 95% of the owners.
Trash
EVs are trash anyway, whether Honda is late to the party or not
This is not a real Honda product it’s just a rebadge GM garbage that is going to have massive electrical problems in the future.
Ev is another dumocrap flop just like everything else they promote.
Exactly!
No reason to buy this car when a model y is better and cheaper
Some people won't switch brands or have issues with Musk and will never buy a Tesla even if it's less expensive.
@@SkaBob i buy a car based on its intrinsic value, not a political statement
Boring boring boring boring who cares. Letter a on back looks crooked! Are they telling us something?
Honda makes cars for clowns
That's a nice GM 👍
Lol
"Starts at just" $48,....... O.M.G. EVs are transportation for the elites.
So are most pickups and SUVs.
@@housepianist Where is this "affordable" EV we were all promised?
Not really. Starts at $48k, but $7500 instant tax credit so it starts at $40k. The gas powered Pilot starts at $38k going to $53k, so this is like $2k more. $38k for a pilot no problem, $40k for prologue is for elitists.
@@I_Eat_Meat12345 Get a used EV, those are affordable. Or something like a Kona EV, starts at $33k but Hyundai has a 7500 bonus cash offer on it so it actually costs several thousand less then the gas powered model.
@@SkaBob Both are unattainable for normal people. Where is the 20-25k EV? I mean MSRP, then the tax credit comes off of that (for now). Most people cannot afford an EV. Many people do not see EVs as practical. Recent news articles state that roughly half of EV owners switch back to ICE. Older articles have that number lower. So, why the uptick in the return to ICE? Is it the hassle of having to plan all travel around charging? Could it be that ICE vehicles can get 350 or more miles of range with a few minute fill-up, rather than sitting to charge for 30 minutes (longer if not a Tesla Supercharger)? Could it be the fire risk on EVs? I think an EV could be a great car to commute around town. I wouldn't want to roadtrip one. Hybrid is the answer.
Co-developed with General Mistakes, so goodbye to Honda dependability/quality/reliability!!!!
People who have owned a Bolt and Volt say they have been some of the best cars they have had. People forget GM has been making EVs since 2010 when the Volt came out, it was build like an EV that happened to have a gas range extender. Better design than the PHEVs sold my many brands today.
