Though, alot of factors can and do change things, I'm pretty certain you can get a pretty accurate average of the amount of yearly rainfall by just collecting a bunch of spreadout/diverse data points. Then just measure the total volume of water precipitated, divide that by 365 days and get an "average daily rainfall." Then again, that method is very simple, I'm sure plenty of researchers have found different more optimized/accurate means to find that answer.
