    • @jimmulcahey9312
      @jimmulcahey9312 Před 2 lety +1

      If you are counting high school, college and NBA you might be right. As far as just the NBA goes, I am not sure I agree. Wilt was also a track star in college which may have taken away from basketball at that level. Anyway Wilt still holds over 60 NBA records even 50 years after he retired. Also they didn’t keep track of blocks in his time so there is a good possibility that Wilt would be above him on blocks. Wilt did have more rebounds in 14 years than Kareem did in 21 years. The finals MVP was no awarded until 1969 which means Wilt only had opportunity to win it a few years at the end of his career and Kareem had opportunity the whole 21 years of his career. Again the fact Wilt had over 70 NBA records when he retired and still holds 61 records 50 years after he retired puts him in the conversation as far as the NBA goes. Another player that could be in the conversation is Bill Russell. Another player that blocks were not recorded, the finals MVP did not exist during his career or who knows how many he would have been awarded, had more rebounds in a shorter time and won 11 championships in 13 years.

      @@MrBishop1954 like I said if you are counting high school, college and NBA you are right. Nobody is ever going to accomplish what Kareem did when he led John Wooden’s Bruins. Bill Walton came close but I don’t think anyone will ever even get close to that again. Now I didn’t see Kareem in High school but I did see him at UCLA. I didn’t really see a lot of Russell and only the last 5 years of Wilt while he was a Laker. The only question for me is if you only count the NBA. Blocks were not a stat that was kept track of and there was no such thing as Finals MVP for the majority of Russell’s and Wilt’s careers. Wilt is basically the record book and Russell had 5 more championships. They both have more rebounds and both played 7 or 8 less years in the league. Finals MVP existed 1 year of Russell’s career and 5 years of Wilt’s. It existed the entire 21 years of Kareem’s career. Blocks were not recorded ever in Russell’s career and 1 year of Wilt’s while they were recorded for 17 years of Kareem’s. I don’t hold it against Russell and Wilt that they don’t have those stats or awards and Kareem does. Again if you count high school, college and NBA or even just College and NBA there is question the GOAT is Kareem but if you are just counting NBA I would have to disagree.

      @@MrBishop1954 Kareem is not the goat, although he certainly is top 3 no question
      Assess these points and if you’re objective you may see my view…
      1. If the merger happened sooner Kareem has 4 RMVP (5 at most) Dr J has 1-2 of Kareem’s RMVP for sure
      2. How is someone who’s not the finals MVP or his own teams best player 3 out of 6 chips going to compare to MJ with also 6 chips yet he was by far the best player all 6 times?
      3. Now MJ and Kareem have very similar accomplishments both individual and team, although MJ has the slight edge - yet he did it in 5-6 fewer seasons - read that again MJ accomplished slightly more in 6 fewer seasons

I think the GOAT conversation is ridiculous because in every instance I have witnessed it (by guys who never played pro ball) the players discussed are almost exclusively those who are currently playing or are early into retirement. There's no discussion of positions, of how the game has changed, or any number of peripheral aspects that would need to be part of the discussion. I will say something about Jordan though... I grew up with 4 years of season tickets to Syracuse basketball and football games. The bulls had an exhibition game at the Carrier Dome in the late '80's. Upon walking into the building there was an electricity that I could clearly feel that I never felt before or after in that building, and I am absolutely certain that it felt that way because MJ was in the building, and it wasn't the crowd because I was there an hour early to watch them warm up.

    Kudos the Kareem, he has an uncanny wisdom about him in his answer about the GOAT in basketball, he mentions perspective and how no one saw Wilt Chamberlain or Bill Russell play so the current crop of players' perspective is skewed somewhat. Like he said, Wilt Chamberlain scored a 100 points in one game and averaged 50 points per game for an entire season. He could have kept on scoring but he decided it was best to let other players score so his assists went up. Kareem then sums up the interview with the athleticism of Jordan and James and says that is what the GOAT crowd is looking at.

My GOAT is MJ but I will not force others to support him, they are entitle to their own opinions and choices of stars in NBA. Kareem is right that NBA is a game that came through different eras with the rules changing with time. Early times had different stars who played under different rules and the stars who came after. NBA's popularity reached fever pitch in the 1980s and 1990s that was the era the game was televised globally and people really appreciated the game and the stars. After that, players are playing for their money and not the love of the game and basketball lost its popularity at the world stage. I never saw him in high school but from what I have heard there is no argument there. Nobody is ever going to match or beat his accomplishments while on John Wooden’s Bruins. Bill Walton came close but nobody will even get close again. So again no argument there. As far as pros go I disagree. Wilt is basically the record book. He had over 70 records and still holds 61 fifty years after he retired. Bill Russell has 5 more championships. Both have more rebounds. Both played 7 to 8 fewer years than Kareem. Kareem does have more points but he also played 21 years as opposed to 13 and 14 of Russell and Wilt. He has more blocks and Finals MVP awards but that is because blocks were not recorded ever during Russell’s career and only 1 year of Wilt’s and finals MVP existed one year during Russell’s career and 5 of Wilt’s. Finals MVP has been in existence Kareem’s entire career and blocks were recorded for 17 years of it. For this reason you cannot hold it against Russell or Wilt that Kareem has more blocks and Final MVP awards. Kareem is definitely near the top as far as NBA goes but I don’t think is the top player ever. I would put Wilt and Russell above him. As far as your list of greats the only name that I truly believe does not belong is Lebron. No question that he is a very physically gifted athlete and has a lot of accomplishments in the NBA. I just believe he is an overrated stat packer and a cancer to any team he is on. I also believe that any stars on his team play the worst of their careers while on his team. What the dint know is he is third all time in rebounding and block shots. Sure Russell won 11 titles but everyone knew that he always had a better supporting cast. Wilt was the most dominant player ever it's not even close and anyone who dares to say Shaquille obviously never saw Wilt play Arnold Schwarzenegger said Wilt was the strongest guy he ever worked out with if anyone would know it would be Arnold. So again take the emotions out one guy sais he didn't like Kareem because he was aloof well I got news for u so was Kobe and Jordan use to trash his teammates Mercifully. Nobody is hating on them.
