It was meant to start with Ant Man I heard and Edgar Wright directing but Wright and the studio kept having "creative differences" so the whole thing got passed to Iron Man to start. Glad RDJ got the role (studio weren't to keen) but I think their other choice, Sam Rockwell, would have been equally as good

This wasn't a good interview but RDJ played it off well. Some of the questions Kimmel asked could be considered highly offensive and could get RDJ into a lot of trouble with the public but he was so quick on his feet and kept the interview interesting while being likable and not offensive.

Ruben the Speedster except it's not a one person thing, it is Downey, it is Feige, and it is Favreau, it is all of them together that made the MCU possible, they are all important in contributing to this creation, this lightning in a bottle that gave birth to the MCU - RDJ may just be an actor, but the statement that any great actor could have done it is false, actors are individuals, they are unique in that way, nobody would have played Tony Stark the way RDJ embodied that role and connected with the audience in the way he did, so in this way, he is irreplaceable and another actor couldn't have delivered what he did, it would have been a different Tony Stark and the reception could have easily not worked

***** Movies are subjective tho. I think it was great. Sherlock BBC is more about deduction and less action, RDJ's SH and SH GoS have plenty of deduction but are still action adventure. In the books take for ex: the sign of four it's both deduction and action. Some stories are pure SH sitting and deducing in his flat. Sometimes it's good to make an adaptation.

I agree that RDJ really did help the marvel universe take off but remember that Terrance Howard had to convince producers to hire RDJ, because he wasn't the most reliable back then. Even in earlier interviews RDJ admits that. I'm glad that Terrance saw that in him.
I'm primarily a huge DC fan but the film is damn fantastic! The majority will love it!

There are few better come-from-behind stories in Hollywood. He could just as easily be dead. Remember the scene in IM1 when Stark is crawling across his workshop to reach his replacement reactor? Check out his brutal scene late in Less Than Zero (1987 I think) when his Julian is overdosing. Amazing - and he was doing that as a fairly new actor. And it's clear that he pulled from that earlier scene when working in IM1. Always made me wonder how much of that earlier scene was autobiographical.
