In 1980, I turned 12 years old in a small town in southeast Iowa. That's when I really got into football. At the time, it seemed everyone there was a Cowboys fan. I was known for going against the grain and became a die hard Redskins fan. When I got into junior high, I was 5'8 and weighed 165 and put in the position of fullback. With the way I ran the ball, our quarterback gave me the nickname "Riggins". It stuck with me all through high school. My jersey number was #40 because we didn't have a #44 jersey. But it was close enough for me. From 2003 to 2009, I drove over the road and lived in New Mexico for 3 years. I had the opportunity to speak with many native Americans from almost every area of the country. Not once did I run into a native American that found the name Redskins offensive. I'll hang on to my Redskins items. The one I'm most proud of and have never worn, is my Authentic NFL #44 Riggins home jersey. I can't bring myself to cheer for the new name. And with the way the NFL is now, I hardly ever watch NFL unless I get invited to watch a game with some friends. We are now a group of fans that no longer have a team and it breaks my heart. HTTR!

My idea was to stay as close to the original mascot/logo as possible while still sidestepping the legalities. My suggestion ? "The Skins" Replace the native head with a capital "W" and KEEP the hanging feathers. BAM ... problem solved.
My solution: The Washington Native Americans and leave everything else the same. Otherwise, go with Washington Redskins and use the spear logo they had in the 70s. They could have used an existing previous logo and done much better than to go with this stupid name of Commies.
