- Today I’m going through my theory on who I want Huey, Dewey, and Louie’s father should be! For some reason we know ancestors of the Coot Kin, the Duck family and Clan McDuck from generations in the past from hundreds of years ago, but the father of Donald and Scrooge’s nephews has been left unanswered which I find extremely troubling. And that’s why today we are going to be exploring one of the biggest mysteries within Donald Duck’s family tree! We are going to be wrestling with everything we know about the triplet’s father, Mr. Duck to uncover who I believe he will be revealed to be in DuckTales (2017)!

Headcanon: Triplets father was a close friend of Donald in Navy and he met Della through that connection.
That very logical.....but maybe instead of Navy , how about Army.
(After all , Donald is indeed a real US Army veteran IRL , retied at 1984 , with the rank of buck sergeant. Yup , he has an official serving record in US Army's system)

Many couples happened that way. Friends bring friends home on R&R to meet families and so on.

@@IsaacCarlson I think you're mixing different continuities that don't mix well in this video.
Here's the thing, no one talks about him, ever. Not the boys, not Donald, not Scrooge, not Webby (who's obsessed with the Duck family), not even Della, she doesn't "talk to" him in her messages while on the moon, nor does she try to find him when she gets back to earth or wonder why he didn't raise the boys instead of Donald. You'd think Della would mention the love of her life at least once. So that rules out him still being around at the time Della left in the Spear and got stuck on the moon. So that leaves a few things, either he died and in her grief, Della made sure that no one would ever speak of him again. Or, he left Della and the boys early on, either in a dead beat dad kind of way, or perhaps he discovered something about FOWL and left his family to infiltrate the organisation, making it out like he betrayed his family to gain the trust of FOWL, telling no one, not even his wife, of his true intentions. Or he could have straight up "turned to the dark side" and joined FOWL. The main thing is, no one ever speaks about him, and there has to be a reason for that.
Or maybe, Della just doesn't know who it is. Could have been a one night stand thing, or maybe two short lived relationships shortly after each other around the time Della got pregnant, thusly having two possible dads, or maybe she went to a sperm bank and got it from an anonymous donor. A lot of things are possible.

Honestly, I'd be interested to see how Ducktales would betray a father abandoning them. There's a lot of heavy personal emotion there and since the triplets could all have different reactions to their father we could see three different approaches to that father-son relationship. Maybe one of the triplets is desperate enough for a biological father he blindly keeps trying to reach out to him when being ignored/hurt, while another is just confused and the third is outright angry. Maybe they try and fail to be a family where their biological father tries to be a father but can't motivate himself to try as Della did. There could be some jealousy going on with Donald. Maybe the triplets come to the conclusion that their biological father isn't someone worth fighting for and Donald already has that place in their lives and they can tell their audience that, you know, that's a valid conclusion to come to even if you're just a kid.

Two bits of info from the show: In "Whatever Happened to Della Duck?", Della believes the triplets are being raised by their uncles, so the father was apparently already out of the picture before she was lost in space. In "Whatever Happened to Donald Duck?", when Dewey and Webby are looking for more family mysteries to investigate they don't even mention the triplets' father, suggesting that they already know or think they know who it is and don't find it particularly interesting.
In my own opinion
The fact that his name has never been revealed and his face is normally obscured
I believe that Mr. Duck became a disgrace to the family in some way, which lead to his name being scrubbed from the family tree
Yes it is less magical than what Wotso proposes, but if Mr Duck was such a great person, then at least his first name would have been known

Maybe, their father was scared off by the McDuck/Duck family's tendency to get involved in adventures. If he wasn't such an adrenaline junky as everyone else, he may have just run away.

Della is an amazing Disney mother, And is known for being a very iconic mystery character in Disney’s characters. Yet when I learned what she did; making a decision to choose an adventure over her children I saw her differently. She is adventurous and I like that but she’s also irresponsible which makes her not the greatest mother she comes off as selfish in that decision that she made. It makes me think that the best parent for Huey Dewey and Louie with probably Donald, in the reboots Donald has showed to be devoted, loving and protective of them. I’m not sure if Disney will ever really show their father but Donald is already a great father figure for them. I honestly think he’s a great influence on them.
Well you see the family talk about this in the episode where she got back to earth, she simply wasnt ready to be a mom, she was an adventurer
and she paid for it already by being stuck on the moon for a decade. I think that's big enough punishment and we can see in the show that now she is really trying to be more responsible mom. Emphasis on trying
And let's not forget that staying on the moon does a number on her. Where she almost forgot how earth gravity works, missed out alot of stuffs (trends, events, etc), to literally not being able to see a reflection of herself, all while trying to be an actual part of the family.

I think the odds are that their father was a deadbeat freeloader who only hooked up with Della as a means to gain access to Scrooge's money. The relationship was just a brief fling that ended in disaster. Either that, or he was a FOWL agent who hooked up with Della and ended up wanting out of the organization because he truly loved her but FOWL didn't take it so lightly so they killed him.

I agree that Triplets father was adventurous duck and he wouldn't abandon his kids, but where you see him as astronaut I see him as military man or better a secret agent like double o duck. If you assume that he was secret agent, there can be several explenations what happened to him. There are 2 that are my favourite:
1) He is secretly trying to infiltrate or discover where fowl
2) He was captured by fowl and was brainwashed by them to be their secret weapon or enforcer like Winter Soldier from Marvel.
And if he was a secret agent or a military man, they would explain why Della would not ask about him when she got back from the Moon - after all if you expect him to be on assignment or a secret mission, you wouldn't expect them to be at home when you returned.
Maybe just trying to get away from them in order to keep them safe
That second one would be awesome. (well okay, both would be awesome but the second would be even MORE awesome)

Frank Angones said in a podcast interview once Della is partially based off his own wife (a "fun mom") and created because "Most mothers in Disney are either completely perfect or they're deceased - Della is neither". I really love the character and LOVE her introduction into the 2017 series :) Great vid!
I find it extremely weird that in the entire series of DuckTales their Father has never been mentioned once by any of them.... NOT ONCE!!!

I have doubts that the current Ducktales series will even cover it. There may be this idea that it shouldn't matter who their father is and that Della does fine as a single mother. In fact, she does, despite the expected hiccups here and there. Also, the boys aren't really lacking in positive male role models, so I don't think there's quite the level of yearning as they had for their missing mother. Don't get me wrong, I'd love this story to be told. My bet is that time travel is somehow involved and that the father is long dead because he lived a long time ago. It's a long shot, but I like that theory.

People talk about him being this great guy, but I think it's more believable if he was actually a bad person. It makes sense: no one ever talks about him, there's no pictures of him lying around, and he could be one of the reasons Della ran away to the moon because she was too scared to be a mother. The father of her children just abandoned her/she decided to raise the children alone because he was not a good guy, so this much pressure under her could've triggered her journey to the moon. I personally believe it makes more sense and it has more of a ""close to home"" touch than their dad being a hero of some kind (lots of kids out there don't have a father, and I think it would be nice of the show to portray characters that just had an absent and bad father. Also it's kind of Disney's thing to create protagonists with unusual families.)
Now, I'm not saying the kids shouldn't meet him. No, on the contrary. I believe he should be redeemed. Someone who messed up when he was young, but now he's found out he has three sons, so he's doing everything to prove to Della and her family that he can be a good guy and become a part of the triplets' life.

I got a theory that Launchpad is their dad, but he forgot because of a head injury. Also explain why Scrooge hired him because it's his fault on why he's not that smart. Still farfetched, but it would be a cool twist and Dewie got some of his personality and crashes a lot too.
I think they might talk about there father in season 4 (here’s hoping we get it lol) but I think the main thing they’ll go through in this season is webby’s back story
As much as I like the different theories, I personally wouldn't mind if the reboot didn't dig into who their father was. I don't think his introduction is necessary because I just already naturally consider Donald as their father figure. The Duck family seems perfect the way it is. But I know this series throws hard curveballs, so I wouldn't be surprised if he is introduced somehow lol
True. If they do include him then it be a situation for the kids to have heart to forgive/not forgive their father. Which can be an obvious ending where triplets can say Donald is their only real father. Best for the story to not dig into the father thing

Im like 3 years late but in the episode “what happened to Donald Duck?” there is a brief shot of a small family tree Lunaris (I think his name is?) Made. In the tree, you see Dells and another duck connected to the boys. There’s a brief shot you’re able to see his face before the red X replaces it. Thought anyone watching this video might be interested in that! Idk the exact time stamp but it’s at the part when Donald and Penny find the war room (before Donald and Lunaris fight).

This question has been asked for years.
Honestly, I don't see Della being married to the boy's father. I feel like, she had a wild affair (maybe with someone serving in the navy with Donald), got pregnant, laid some eggs and wanted to have one last big adventure before she settled down to raise her children more or less on her own, probably with Donald's help. I think the boy's last name, Duck, is just Della's last name that they inherited. I don't know if this man even knows he has children. Especially since Della never acknowledges his existance, nor does Donald or Scrooge. Because it wasn't important to Della, so its not important to them either.
Here's an idea that might be a little more like a soap opera, what if he was like in the military, went out on a mission somewhere, but something bad(but Not Fatal) happened to him, and he survived, but ended up lost somewhere with amnesia, he had no way of remembering himself or the fact that he was a husband & father, so he may have started a new life for himself(possibly with another woman), and since no one ever found out his whereabouts, he was only Presumed dead, so it may be possible that he's still out there somewhere, maybe even have started a Second Family, which might mean that Huey, Dewey & Louie may not just still have a father, but also some Half-Siblings as well.
I like the thought that the boys' father was in the military and had an adventurous spirit and maybe he DID reach out to Scrooge after Della took the Spear of Selene and was lost in the storm and he went looking for her and perhaps got lost himself. The family does seem to enjoy adventure and Della, herself, seems like a free spirit....brave and stubborn and independent, but she CLEARLY loves her boys and her brother and Scrooge. The episode we spend with Della on the moon....her entire motivation for fixing her rocket and getting home was that she wanted to be with her boys. We see the joy and love on her face when she's FINALLY reunited with her family and like Webby, I was also in tears as I witnessed this beautiful scene.

That is if there would be a Fathers Day episode though because I honestly feel there isn't going to be one. Most shows hardly make episodes like that mostly Halloween and Christmas specials. I'm just saying because I wonder if this has been confirmed already by the creators?

Just saying now, the fact the reason Della and Donald ended up with Scrooge being identical to how the triplets ended up with Donald in their first appearance is absolutely hilarious.
So, Della's "being in space" thing wasn't just something made up souly for the 2017 version of her, it's actually an expansion and alteration of the OG Della's story?
To quote Donald himself from Mickey's A Christmas Carol: "well I'll be dog gone".
I personally think he has been sucked into another dimension completely deleted from that plane of the world on an adventure with Scrooge, Della, and Donald but still fights to return.

I think the triplets' father will be revealed eventually. They're probably working out his new design and the lore of where he's been this whole time and why he didn't come home to visit his family.
Whoever he else, i hope he's not some neglect jerk abandoning his sons to teach viewers a real-life lesson that not all parents will love you.
Hopefully it isn’t a Game of Thrones situation like Jaimei and Cersei with Donald and Della hahaha

At this point I don’t think the triplets dad knows he even has kids. Knowing irresponsible Della who hijacks a space ship over her boys she probably didn’t tell him.
I think the Triplets Father doesn't know he's a Father of Triplets. A One Night stand or a short Fling. Della is impulsive enough to do something like that, and "unlucky" enough to get knocked up that way, and irresponsable enough not to tell any one.

For Della only a few minutes passed, she is unaware that several years passed in Earth, when she returns it is very likely that all her family died of old age. They should have told her to return to Earth inmediately so at least she could meet her children as adults.
DuckTales Theory-who is Gizmo-Duck’s father? Fenton obviously has a very close and caring relationship with his mother but who’s his father? What happened to him and is he important in the grand scheme of things?

I think his father passed away, but I don't know if this is cannon. The show could explore the reason why he died and make Fenton's father the reason he got into science
Maybe something happened to him that either killed him or made him disappear, and Fenton uses his work and studies to one day find a solution or way to bring him back some how

What about the possibility that he was unaware that he had kids, and della family was unaware of him being the father?
The military-theory is the most sound because there is something that has started to get lost in time: The age in which the triplette were created in the comics. This was right around the two major world wars and, as a grim reminder: most kids growing up with comics around the world during and after this time grew up without their fathers because they had lost them in one of the two wars. This was one of the reasons why, for example, characters like Superman and Batman survived the super-hero purge of the post WWII era, they had become replacement dads for their readerships and were also written like fathers. So, yeah, it makes sense that the original idea was that the triplets father didn't make it back alive for some reason from one of the world wars.
This also explains why they never went into detail about him. This kind of fate is way too much for the rather more humoristic and lighthearted world the Ducks populate (today more so then ever before), and the other options aren't really better. Making Louie, Dewey and Huey, for example, the result of a one-night-stand is pretty much impossible, same goes for their father to just have left them. There is relly no better solution to this question then to just never bring him up from a narrative perspective which is why I believe there will never be any kind of official answer to his fate, or who he even was to beginn with.
my theory is that he is a prisoner of F.O.W.L. he was a secret agent that found out something F.O.W.L. didn't want anyone to know. and the episodes with F.O.W.L. will reveal what happened to him.

This is quite an interesting look into one something I've often wondered from time to time! I also have a couple suggestions for a couple "Discovering Disney" Episodes in the future. I'd love to see episodes focused on Sandra and Veldrake (And whatever his descendant was called), from the 3 Caballeros Series on Disney+. I watched ALL of it, and I really enjoyed what it had to offer!
I'd like the idea of knowing more about Daisy's nieces April, May, and June and Daisy's family tree
I have a theory that because of Della's uppity, spontaneous, and playful personality, she was sometimes picked on when she was younger, she probably met someone who finally liked her and cared about her as much as her family, this could be the boys father. About a couple years after they got married, he could have went to war in the Navy in place of Della so she could stay and take care of the kids, but he sadly died in war a couple months before her trip into space. She felt so much grief over it she asked no one to ever talk about him. Or he could have just disappeared in war.
I have a theory, maybe HDL’s dad is Launchpad. Then Launchpad lost his memory do to a helicopter crash. I guess this was a secret Della Donald and Scrooge never told the boys. But like if you think if Donald is the best father figure

I have a theory about the triplets dad... he could have been a navy buddy of Donald's and that's how he met Della.
He got deployed on a mission he never returned from just after Della laid the eggs so that left Della trying to cope with the idea of raising her kids alone which adds to her impulsive behavior of taking the Spear of Selene early, she was excited but also wanted to keep her mind off of her doubts and fears about raising three kids solo.
Honestly I could see Della not feeling like she could completely confide in Scrooge or Donald about how she felt because she didn't want to burden her brother and she knew Scrooge wouldn't really understand what she was feeling as he is a confirmed bachelor with no kids.
The twist is that Mr.Duck was only listed as MIA so no one really knows what happened to him and that's why they don't talk about him, what can they possibly say?
This scenario opens the door to plenty of possibilities for finding out what happened to him; is he still alive or not? Was he a hero, a traitor or just a coward who ran away from his responsibilities? I personally think if they did something like this he would most likely be dead only because to find him alive would just be redundant after the Della arc and they could make him a hero without being redundant if he's dead but they learn that he died doing the right thing because that's who he was, someone who believed in doing the right thing no matter the cost.
Being completely honest tho, they may never talk about the mysterious Mr. Duck. Although one of the newest episodes implied that Mrs. Beakley is hiding something from Webby so maybe we'll get to finally know something about the elusive Vanderquacks and if so maybe they will give us something about the equally elusive Mr. Duck.
Interesting. I always thought that since Della was impulsive enough to leave her just-about-to-hatch eggs behind to fly an untested rocketship without preparing for the journey, maybe she had a short-term fling with another duck that resulted in the boys.
Also given that Donald and Della were in their early teens in the 80s, she would have been in her twenties when the boys were born. Add her young age onto her impulsivity, and you get the perfect formula for an egg-producing fling.

If they wanted to do a riff on the Avengers, they could find him working for F.O.W.L and discover he was brainwashed after he was thought lost in an accident.
Considering how different the triplets are in the reboot, I wouldn't be surprised if there were actually three different fathers, one for each triplet. My headcannon is that she had three flings in three different places and in three different adventures. Given how irresponsible Della has been shown to act, I wouldn't be surprised if she was the type of person who really got around and forgot about it.
Also, DON'T Google how ducks reproduce. Trust me on this.
HAHA this is totally possible and kind of cute in a way. the triplets are widely different but in the end they're still three peas in a pod with good chemistry together.

How certain are you that Della was ever married? The boys have mother's last name. Della having kids out of wedlock might be a story Disney can now tell.
I love the idea of Huey, Dewey, and Louie's dad being a military man. Maybe if "Ducktales 2017" has a fourth season, in case they couldn't fit him in the FOWL story arc, they could explore this character in great detail. And if they ever go with a military route, they could borrow some elements of Donald serving the Navy in the original "Ducktales."
I never watched these new series, and never knew there was a Della Duck in the old comics!!! She's Donald's sister, right?

This is one of those questions I am itching to know the answer to ever since we saw Della's story line, but I feel like this is just one of those things where they'll take the "it doesn't have to make sense, it's a cartoon" route. Della's story line was so big and important, I don't see them starting up another "lost parent" story line. And, while I personally am curious, would the introduction of a dad actually benefit the show? Donald (and Scrooge) already have strong father-figure roles in the show. Donald and Scrooge's fatherly role also lets kids who might not technically have a father, see that other male figures can be just as important and fatherly.
I love everyone's cool and positive headcanons, but my personal one is on the glummer side and would definitely not be written into a Disney cartoon lol. Which is that Della probably wasn't married to their dad and it was either just a fling between them or their dad yeeted out of their lives when she got pregnant. It's what makes most sense to me with what they've given us in the show. Which is, well, nothing. Nobody mentions him or seems to care lol.
EDIT: Btw, I definitely do not mean for this to sound like i'm demeaning Della. I love Della and she's probably my favorite cartoon mom. But yeah, stuff happens. Lol.

When Della came back she didn't even ask about him, granted she was focused on her kids but that's not something you totally forget unless you know he's not going to be around. Doesn't necessarily mean he's dead but it's odd Huey, Dewey and Louie don't ask about him suggesting they do know what happened to him.

Maybe Della and the father split up before della found out she was pregnant, and don't make him a douchebag, just that it was a mutual break up, and have della never told him that she was pregnant. And then have the triplets find there dad and have them and the dad have a close connection and make Della jealous and theb make della and the dad married. Then we'll get a wedding episode. Well, that's my theory.
Maybe the loss of della made him soo sad to the point that even looking at the boys made him sad soo he left but not to far he was still in there lives with out them knowing the picture you draw looks just like a reporter in the Atlantis episode soo maybe he is 'stocking them' possibly
I have an idea of how the father could be reintroduced into the family:
I could imagine that the triplets father might have suffered from ptsd because of a War and seeing how these storys go and what an incredible burden it would be for Della to handle that and the triplets at the same time he could't bring himslef to make them go trough this. He told Scrooge and Donald it (Who being as the family is and probably allready experienced) because they knew allready that something wasn't right. Of course they tryed to speak him out of it but his mind was allready made up and nobody could have convinced him otherwhise. I guess that is why Della and him where such a perfect match they both were thicc headed especially when it comes to family matters and thinking to do the right thing. He asked them not to say anything to Della or the Triplets and knowing how well the government would provide for the familys of those who have fallen in combat he told them of his plan to go back into duty/service in one last suicide Mission and asked them to take good care of her and the little ones. He sayed his last goodbyes. Della was good at finding out secrets but she belived in him. To forget all that matter they planed on going into one last grand adventure but realising they allready went evrywhere only one thing remained space. Donald knowing about the triplets father and his Plan still thinking or at least hoping (because he knows his sister well) Della didn't knew anything urged her not to do it after all if something goes wrong the triplets would loose both Patents but Della argued with him not wanting to give the triplets anyless than the stars. Scrooge seeing how determained she is and knowing full well from the look in her eyes and how she spoke that she knew what was going on he at least wanzed to give her the surprise so that they all could forget about the matter. We all knew what happened than. After Della was long gone the letter came to Donald about the Mission the father went and that it the hole platoon was presumed to be dead....yet still since they could't find a body he was only missing in action and doas the finacial aid was lessened. Now Donald letting evrything sink in becomes overly protective of the children to the point that he was paranoid something could happen to them...after all they are all that is left of his beloved sister and brother in law. This also explaines why his grudge against Scrooge was so overwelming that He didn't even ask for money even if that would help in bringing up three little boys.
What I could imagine in a future episode to happen is that now that Della Duck is back we also get to see what her husband was up to. Her faight in him was totally right after all the only thing he could think of was his family being that the case he survived and but maby has suffered from amnesia. After seeing his family one day on telivision (drawing a parallel to Dellas story) he regained his memorys...at least a bit. This however was enough for him to know that he must go and find them so, he doas. He tryes to find out more about them learning that they are in Duckberg he goes there...or at least attempts to given that without any memory of who he is and identity it will bei diffculd even more so knowing that he has no money. So his adventure revolves around trying to get back to his family regaining little by little his memorys till eventually he doas not get home but rather one faight full day they end up in the same country because of an adventure reuniting the family at last and him getting moast of his memorys back but not all of them. It would be than intresting to see how they handle the still present memory loss.
Why do you assume that Della is married?
Maybe he was the opposite of Della. Maybe he was a calm, level-headed, non-adventurous duck who couldn't handle being a part of the very active, hot-tempered, adventurous Duck family. He couldn't handle being in the Duck family, so he left.
Personally, I think it would be a little much if DuckTales brought back their father. The nephews already have Scrooge and Donald as their father figures and Della as their mother-in-training. If they were to address the problem of lack of father, he should probably be dead or missing or ran off.
To be honest, I think they should’ve done another season about the dad that only Donald duck and Scrooge know the truth about him and what he was been doing this whole time it’s kind of sad that they never brought him up or mentioning him at all
