Replacing the center post on the 2017 GMC Terrain Denali

  • Today we are going to install the right-side B-pillar or center post on the 2017 GMC Terrain Denali that we cut oof of the parts car last time. Everything will be done according to the repair procedures... well almost everything. Some parts we have some freedom to do what we like so I am going to try something new. In my head it sounds like a good idea, let's see how it works in real life.

More importantly I think is that it's not just "how to fix a car" but more like "how to fix a car as a business". Seeing the ins and outs of parts cars, of processing through a number of same model accidents and using parts from a single parts car to do it all is pretty awesome. it's a true business education.

  • @scroungasworkshop4663

Fascinating and a bit scary at the same time. Fascinating seeing just how it’s all done and how the cars are constructed today and scary to see the way more dubious repairers can get away with cutting corners and putting peoples safety at risk. When I needed my car repaired along the rear quarter the panel shop invited me to drop by unannounced at anytime to see how the repairs were progressing so I did. The quality was right up there with the car covered except for where they were working, everything was primed before the new parts went on and even the details were good such as no overspray anywhere and they matched the original nozzle to apply the sealer. I really couldn’t tell where the repairs had been done and I felt confident it had been done properly. Cheers Stuart 🇦🇺

I like the over lap and then cut through both panels.. Pretty slick idea. Although I personally would have just overlapped them like you said-- it's even stronger that way and the door still seals well either way. Something like that is just personal preference, and anyone who "insists' on it being either one is just kinda silly. Both ways work equally as well. I also like the way you overlapped the top lip/ from a water proofing perspective-- Although, you still have those seams on the left and right ends (on the top)--- which are the reason why I would have never done this repair and just went with the 're-shaped" B-pillar, after you got it all straightened out -- just before cutting everything back off............. But hey, welding is a thing and you did a really good job of backing the seems; so even though you cut up the roof (which I wouldnt' have done)-- I can see the appeal of having a brand new B-pillar, if I'm the sucker who is going to buy this car from you at market value afterwards.
