Well, let me tell you now; It is basically the equivalent to cole slaw , in a way it is a palette cleanser, so you can taste the other dishes that you might have. It is called ATCHARA, It is not onions that you thought, it is scredded unbripe papaya, cucumber, carrots, vinegar, sugar fermented in a jar. The rice that you ate at first is Garlic rice, a staple of leftover rice fried with lots of garlic to give that extra flavor.

    I'm glad that you gave halo-halo another chance!
    Kamayan means to use hands, to eat with bare hands.

Some CZcamsrs don't. Result, they don't appreciate it or satisfied with it. Lol. Your vlog is simple yet convincing.

    Filipino-American here. Moved to the states when i was super young.
    Pancit Palabok was one of the things i used to eat when i was in the military trying to get that extra bulk.
    As you said, it feels super light to eat but the amount of carbs and protein i was able to pack into it was stupidly good for my macros/micros at that time.
    glad you all started using your hands too! Filipinos usually eat with their hands.

    Gentlemen, Palabok is my favorite ! You have to
    Mix it and put a dash of lemon and dash of fish sauce. Just a little. Palabok is for birthdays and celebrations.
    That egg with milkfish or fried bangus, with rice, thats our breakfast food.

    The bangsilog you had earlier had garlic rice which is the 'si' in the name; bangus (fish) - sinangag (garlic fried rice) - itlog (egg). It is typical for the breakfast meal. Otherwise, most meals just use plain rice to accompany the entree.

    • @starfruitiger
      @starfruitiger Před 2 lety

      no. sorry but sinigang is not garlic fried rice. garlic in tagalog is "bawang". sinigang is a completely different dish, a sour soup.

    • @marlstravelogue

      @@starfruitiger you are right about sinigang. But he is also right about sinangag. Two different dishes. Sinigang is the soursoup, while sinangag is the garlic fried rice.

    Oh, Bangus is callled milkfish in English, because of its meat is super white and its sweet taste. The vegetables are atchara, which is pickled papaya. Also, you mix the palabok with two forks, to mix it better, like tongs.

    The veggies you got from the fried fish is the same as the one you got from the lechon... its atchara, pickled veggies which serves to cut the fattiness from either fried or roast pig. The nice rice is garlic rice as contrast to the plain boiled rice given with the lechon. Always ask for the garlic rice whenever you have roasted or fried food but plain rice for saucy foods.
