    My wife and I traveled the US for six months in a chalet which is almost identical to the a-liner. We would unhook the trailer. Lower the tongue slightly using the jack. Lower the rear stabilizers which had a real convenient design where you step on a lever so they fall down and friction holds them in place. Raise the tongue until it is slightly above level which also puts weight on the rear stabilizers. Put the front stabilizers down. Lower the tongue slightly. Put up the walls. We moved every night or two. We timed ourselves and we routinely set up in less than 90 seconds. We did a couple mods because of wind. We had an eyebolt on the body of the trailer and a rope which attached to the peak of the downwind roof panel to keep it from blowing completely over in high winds. We also had two eyebolts which secured the peak of the roof panels together in windy conditions.

    We have 5 people, soon to be 6, so an A-liner won't work for us. But I dig the ease of setup, especially the levelers. I gotta reach under mine and pull them down and hit a release to drop them the rest of the way. Then cranking it up takes some effort. But I still love the result.

    They need to keep things so low to make space for things like whelping for weather sealant. If it gets a dent, kink, or any kind of a defect in it it will not work anymore so they leave plenty of room. I live in Elkhart Indiana and have worked in camper manufacturing most of my adult life, & in nearly every department too. I really like the A frame type pop ups too. Enjoy

  • @oldmillrd8153
    @oldmillrd8153 Před 4 lety +7

    You can get A-frames with a 6' taller lower box. It makes the counters regular height and gives you a bigger frig with a freezer too!

  • @topnotchreviewer1429

    Maybe this thread will help those new to Aliners understand specifically WHY to get an Aliner. I have a quality 20 foot travel trailer (TT), but I'm also buying an Aliner. DW and I are interested is doing more off-road travel where we either wouldn't or couldn't take our TT. We can take an A-Frame on such roads. No, we're not going to rock crawl, but there are thousands of miles of off-roads in the West where taking even a 7 foot wide TT is asking for trouble.
    I've looked at the various overlanding teardrop or square-drop camper trailers. I have attended the Overlanding Expo in Flagstaff, Arizona and looked at dozens of models. Here are some reasons for the A-frame pop-up.
    1) If you wake up in the middle of the high desert at 6,000 feet on a 14 degree F March morning in the middle of Nevada, the outside galleys of the -drops isn't going to cut it. A requirement is to have a camper-trailer where we can cook and eat inside. Also, we want to be able to sit up at the dinette in the evening and play cards. The are some overlanding squaredropswith tables, but now you're getting into the 30-50K category.
    2) With an exception or two, you cannot stand up in the -drops. There are some where you're again pushing 35K plus.
    3) Since DW and I have developed different sleeping schedules, we like having two different areas for sleeping. We can do that in our TT, and we can also do that in an A-frame. I'll take the dinette area, which will be okay. There is one brand of an overlanding trailer built in South Africa with two sleeping areas, but you're looking at 40-50K. the larger unit weight around 4,500 pounds, Yikes!. Too heavy, too, spendy and too big.
    4) The A-frame has a lower height compared to many of the -drops. There are some small ones out there, but for us they are hopelessly too claustrophobic. By the time you add a roof rack on some of the squaredrops, they are ~six feet high. I think the A-frame should see slightly better fuel economy.
    Next comment. Why Aliners

  • @notsosilentmajority1
    @notsosilentmajority1 Před 4 lety +2

    Just a suggestion but have you considered placing small pieces of wood under the jacks so help keep the feet from sinking in the ground on extended trips or on wet ground? They won't take up room to store and they are lightweight. Love the Ailiner and the ease of setup and transport. Is there some way to bathe/shower on the side of the Airliner??

    Those are stabilizers only. You may have misspoke when you called them leveling jacks. You will damage them if you use them to lift load repeatedly. Drills make them easy to operate but take care that the drill isn’t giving you more torque than you realize. Love the channel.

    I traded my Intec Flyer for one after watching Potato head Slim for a while. I have a Titanium which has 15” wheels and a different axle which raises it quite a bit. The remainder of the trailer is the same which means it really isn’t a off-road trailer, but we go tired of getting dressed laying down and it will slow me to set up base camp in a out of the way spot and explore in the Jeep. Comment #3: Which Aliner? Aliner A-frames are made with a 10 foot, 12 foot, and 15 foot box. Add three feet of tongue length to give you the overall length of the unit. The two smaller lengths are 78 inches wide and the 15 foot box, the Expedition model, is 84 inches wide. I chose the middle, and I think that's the model in this video. The expedition is too big and wide for my purposes. When traveling on narrow, one-way dirt roads, you really don't want something much wider than you tow vehicle.
    In the 12 foot box category that has propane, you have the Ranger, Titanium, and the Classic. The Titanium is essentially the Ranger on what they call their Extreme off-road package which is on 15 inch wheels and tires. The Classic has a slightly larger fridge, a couple of extra windows, and an additional outside storage door. There may be a couple of other add-ons with the Classic. Check Aliner's website as models are subject to change.
    I was able to order the Classic on the Extreme off-road package. This is a special order, and I'm unsure of its future availability. Check with your dealer.
    Please keep in mind that everything in an RV is a compromise. You have to figure out what you want to accomplish with your RV and then buy accordingly.

    LOL! I remember I used to be able to eat like that. I could grab whatever I wanted. Then I got cancer. I've had to go nuts with my health, pealed off 90 pounds and I feel amazing but I do miss ice cream and chips. I'm stuck with low carb (although this hamberger jerky I made is tasty). If I can't fix this problem with fasting, supplemnets and such, I might end up taking their chemo (which I don't want to do).

    • @mattberry4457
      @mattberry4457 Před 4 lety

      if you do chemo fatten yourself up so you have some reserves. also carnation instant breakfast will give you every thing you need and tastes good. i had to go that route because i had radiation on my neck and was painful to eat. so no food for three months but all my levels stayed in the good zone the whole time. good luck. that was thirteen years ago.

    Seriously interested in the Aliner Classic, as my prospective tow vehicle is a 2-door Wrangler X (capacity 2000 lbs) and I have a criminally small garage that limits me to some sort of pop-up camper 16' or under (HOA doesn't allow RV storage in the driveway). My main concern is having to set up or break camp in a driving rain... sometimes you don't have a choice to wait it out... what's your experience?

    Aliner's make towing a breeze but I wouldn't consider one for fulltime living as they don't appear to be built with quality materials. Camping for 30 odd nights a year riding on pavement would be ideal but backcountry "overlanding" would take a heavy toll on its structural integrity.

    A friend of mine used to work for a dealership who sold these a few years ago. The boss used to remove the warning label that warned about the toxic, cancer causing materials used in the construction. The hardware on these would be rusted out in months after the date of manufacture as well. I wonder if A liner has fixed these issues. Their first ones were to be avoided. Great design though.

    Could you imagine breaking down in the middle of nowhere and trying to tell a towman where you're?

    Absolutely love what you are doing. Such an awesome lifestyle. One question though, from a safety point of view, how safe is it all alone in the middle of nowhere? I am from JHB, South Africa and this just isn't done you'll get robbed. So we go to caravan parks where we pay per night or week etc. It's safer that way, but not so free though. There are some places one can go like the Kalahari or Namibia, but always in groups.... Never alone. Be safe out there and thanks for the videos.

      if you tried to make a living robbing people in the back country of Arizona...you'd be dead pretty quickly. everyone in the back country of AZ is 1) armed 2) knows how to use a weapon 3) is willing to use it if you infringe on their freedom. it's tough land. tough people are out there. trying to rob tough people with guns will get a person killed.
