- After 6 years and nearly 150,000 miles, I'm replacing the 3.5" suspension system from American Expedition Vehicles with new 3.5" springs and Bilstein shocks, also from AEV. See how AEV suspensions for Jeep Wranglers hold up to wear-and-tear. In this video, I swap out the components in my driveway, and further renew an old adventure Jeep. Equipped with BFGoodrich All-Terrain KO2 tires, 315/70R17C.

I sometimes let your episodes play all day while working, some of the most satisfying ones I remember were when you would service the Jeep.
So, rewarding doing your own work.
Well done Chris. I know how much you love Orangie.
Looks great. New engine, new shocks and springs. She's ready to go.
Adventure is afoot.
Fixing up an old friend. It feels good on another whole level.
Orangie says yessssss thank you Chris Back to the trail we go. Don’t forget Shannon
Orangie has everything you need for exploring like you do…and nothing you don’t.
It has taken you to more places than most people dream of seeing in a lifetime.
After all these years, who can argue with your experience?
"FOUL LANGUAGE AND LUBRICATION " that was memorable coming from you Chris. 😅😂
Still a great looking Jeep 👍 Don’t forget to make sure everything is torqued to spec.
An Iconic Jeep for sure! Great to see Orangie getting ready for adventure! Chris, you are an inspiration to us all! 😁
Bringing it back...
Great video Mr. Shontz
When my friends and I had a 4Wheel drive shop here in Colorado, we did a number of these coil spring replacements. We would go to Autozone and borrow an outside the coil spring compressor. Made very quick work of the Springs. Would also wd40 the bump stops and holders to get them in easier. Overall nice job Chris.
CHEERS from Colorado 17:55
Some Jeeps can tell many more stories than others!
So nice to see Orangey in all its glory and ready for action !
From being laid on its side in Canada to all the off roading and rock climbing and over 100K miles Oangie still looks like a new jeep. Chris you have taken awesome care of your beautiful child. Now off to a new adventure afoot. Have a super blessed week. I just read the video and miller time didn't look like a miller to me LMAO.
Chris this video reminds me when I gave a 3'' lift to my brand new 2016 Rubicon right after I bought it. It was fun doing it.
Hope to see another 100000+ miles of adventure with your Jeep.
having done this activity a bunch of times, I kept wanting to reach in and help you do this! You did it nearly how I would have, and honestly, you didn't struggle much, so you obviously know what you're doing here. NJ sir.
Great to see some love for Orangey, good job Chris!
Perfect job for gloves
Nice!! Great glamour shots!
Orangey rides again!!
So satisfying watching your vids. Especially your how to vids on Orangy. She looks leveled. Great job Chris.
After 4-5 years, time for a new 4x4. Your tech abilities are most impressive, but I'm plain ole lazy and I like all shiny new.
Thanks for sharing Chris, nice job with the maintaining of your JK! That was hilarious washing your Jeep after you did the work. Last week I did the same thing, I’m still digging dirt and sand out of my eyes. 🤪 And thanks for sharing your tire size, I appreciate it!
Jeep life!
Hi Chris nice job on Orangey I am getting ready to do that on our sprinter van
Good job! Solving each problem as they came up!😊
Congrats Chris! Great choice!!!
Thanks!!
Nicely done Chris.👌
New love for an iconic Jeep.👍
Glamour shots look great.
Totally satisfying doing work on your own rig
WoW, Great job Chris! I have Fox shocks on mine with a 2 1/2 lift on mine.Thank you for all your experience !!
Aev is good stuff. Real workhorse off road. Not fancy but quality and it works flawlessly. I replaced the aev 5100s to the aev 8100 bypass shocks and while expensive it was a huge upgrade in handing and off road performance.
Orangey - the legend.
I really enjoyed your video
Awesome and outstanding as always. Thanks for sharing and taking us along
Great Video!
Very informative thanks
Great job man!
Thank you for the video
Jack up the axle without the spring to put the bump stops in. A little grease or dish soap and they go right in. A floor jack and concrete make the job SO much easier!
I'm going to be replacing the front bump stops and rear shocks on my truck sometime next week. The parts are ordered, just waiting for them to get delivered. I did the front shocks/springs, upper and lower control arms about a month ago.
U make it look so easy
When I was driving home from Arizona yesterday, I passed an orange mustang that had the license plate ORANGIE. And all I could think was, that's on the wrong vehicle. 🤣
I'm old enough to remember when people threw thier loose lugnuts in the upside down wheelcovers... those were the days!!
dont forget to grease ball joints and ujoints while you're down there!
“Lubrication and swearing gets the job done” 😂
Nice
Dish soap is a life saver. Exhaust hangers... think about it. 😉
Yeah that was a nice little job. Should make it a ride a lot better now 👍👍🙂🇨🇦
As others have said -
"U make it look so easy". You'll have to report back on how she rides out on the trail.
HI CHRIS 👋
YOU MADE IT LOOK EASY ! I WAS GOING TO SAY / BUT YOU FIGURED IT OUT ON THE SECOND ONE / BUMP STOP / I LIKE THE RACHET STRAP , IDEA 💡
YOU MADE ME THINK 🤔 I SHOULD GO SEE 👀 HOW MUCH MY FRONT COIL SPRINGS WOULD COST WHEN MY NEPHEW & I REPLACE THE FRONT SUSPENSION ON TASTY . SO I CAN GET A FRONT END ALIGNMENT JUST ONCE . THANKS 😊 GET THE LEAF SPRINGS FOR THE REAR WHEN I HAVE THE FUNDS . THEY'VE GOTTEN A LOT OF MILES & YEARS ON THEM . MAYBE A LITTLE WEIGHT EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE TOO .
BEEN GETTING A LOT OF RAIN 🌧 STORMS HERE ON THE EASTERN COAST . HELPING EVERYTHING GROWING & BLOOMING 🎉 BE SAFE ☺️ 🙏 HAVE FUN ☺️ 🙏 ENJOYED ❤GOD BLESS YOU BOTH ALWAYS ON YOUR ADVENTURES 🙏 THANK YOU ! ☺️ 🙏
Thank you David! Good luck with the projects (Shannon says hello!)
13:55 - Removing/installing the nut on the passenger side shock is a real PITA. Been there done that had to buy the wrench.
Remove the fuse box, then drill hole through plastic where the top of the shock is to gain access. Reinstall fuse box. Easy.
@@ddbrocato This may sound sarcastic but it isn’t.
Where was this info when I needed it last year.
Thank you. That is very helpful.
👍👍
LMAO....lubrication and fowl language. My go-to method as well.
mmmm refreshly squeezed orangie juice.
Chris, you made that look relatively painless as much fun as it is crawling around on the ground in gravel. Actually it's not much better on concrete when you have tired old bones like mine. Could someone help me up please?
😂
Almost…No broken bolts and not much blood equals… any successful repair!👊
Why do i feel he's going to do an axle upgrade?
That Was Easy! Lol
Hey Chris, I wanted to contact you but the "Contact us" page on your website is just blank... How can I contact you?
It is on the roadmap to fix :)
Well done Chris. I did my first suspension install before I had my CZcams channel so I didn’t film it.
But when it’s time to update it, i will do something similar to your video
What lens do you have on your camera?
I shave been switching between Panasonic LUMIX S Pro 24-70 and 70-200.
That looks significanly more painful on a JK
Hello
Lubrication and foul language always seems to help.
Truth! 😆
