My final review for Guerilla Games' "Horizon 2: Forbidden West" (PS5 Version)
I received a copy of this game for free from Sony. Despite this - I have provided what I feel are my true and honest opinions of the product in its current state.
This review was created in a way that is intended to avoid any spoilers (including for Horizon Zero Dawn), and therefore will purposely avoid showing enemies and weapons not already shown in pre-release material.

Correction: Looks like L1+R1 tapped quickly works just fine as a hotkey for the Valor Surge. The menu still shows for a split second which is a little awkward - but it's much faster than what I indicated in this review.

Annoyed someone went ahead and made a thumbnail today spoiling a major aspect of the game that was obviously not shown pre-release on purpose...

One thing I must say, the sound design is absolutely insane. I loved the original game sound design very very much. And based on the trailer I can say this will be even better. Their design choice perfectly matches the tone of the adventure.
Play with headphones, the 3D audio is phenomenal and super helpful during combat. You can always tell exactly where an offscreen attack is about to come from
The music is great. Forget where exactly I was (explored so much I cant keep track) but I started paying attention to the music in the backround and it was just so serene yet eerie. Absolutely brilliant.
This is seriously one of the best reviews regarding this game.

after seeing how the horizon series has benefited from a bigger budget and scope, it makes you wonder about how days gone 2 would have looked.
such a big let down they cancelled the second game it was a hidden gem for sure

4:50 the fact that a game has made it into this uncanny valley, imo is a massive accomplishment. To me it means we are really getting much closer to a game that is virtually indistinguishable from a heavily stylized movie

A really fair review and sounds like we both feel similarly about the first game. I'm looking forward to the sequel because it looks like they improve on a lot of the gameplay mechanics of the first and I thought the first game was pretty good. It also looke gorgeous.
I'm going to wait for the pc version however because I really enjoyed playing through the first game with a mouse and keyboard. Something about having to fine aim with a controller, I just find it cumbersome and for me dismantling creatures as you hunt them is a big part of the fun.
I can see myself sinking a hundred hours into this, just like I did the first game.

Please no, don't waste the experience by forcing a base 4 to run it. We already had the Cyberpunk expereince...

18:47 - amazing. First time I have ever seen an in-game character model that doesn't elicit uncanny valley.
It looks like a PC game cranked up to near ultra graphics at times to me. It is actually jaw dropping!
I hope we could hear more about Rost's journey to the Forbiden West as mentiond by the Teersa.
I'm actually in the process of wrapping up Horizon Zero Dawn for a second time in preparation for Horizon Forbidden West. I absolutely fell in the love with the first game the moment that I put the disc into the console until the end credits rolled. With Horizon Zero Dawn, Guerrilla Games crafted something truly special and memorable. The game had a gorgeous world, an amazing story, great characters and challenging combat when facing its mechanical beasts. Horizon Forbidden West builds upon the already solid foundation that was set by the original title. Much like its mechanical beasts, Horizon Forbidden West is majestic in its scale and visual splendor. The game is breathtakingly beautiful with detailed character models and environments. Ranged combat is still as satisfying and enjoyable as it was the first time around. However, melee combat seems to have been improved upon with the sequel. Being able to swim under water adds another layer to the gameplay. Speaking of which, the water in Horizon Forbidden West looks stunning, especially when the sunlight reflects off it. There are a lot of skills to choose from. The world itself is massive and its worth exploring every inch of its beauty. I look forward to playing as Aloy once again and going on another amazing and unforgettable journey with her. Guerrilla Games are a master of their craft and they've proven it yet again with Horizon Forbidden West. I'll be picking my preorder copy on Friday. I know that I'm going to absolutely adore the game, despite any bugs and glitches that come with it and I'm sure that Guerrilla Games will iron out the wrinkles. The game's positives far outweigh the negatives. It's going to be remembered as a classic for sure. Otherwise, thanks as always for another honest and detailed review. I really appreciate the continued hard work. Keep it up!
Horizon is game that I played couple times and for me it is best sense of freedom so I always coming back. Story is top notch , in my opinion it's best story in games and movies. It is very realistic almost like story that we have to know in case we want to avoid it but also I got picture of what is terafoming. Mashines started to attacking humans after hundred years of wars, massacres, genocide between tribes. I see similar in other games as well but Horizon left strongest impact on me, second is TLOU 2 still unreachable level of details, characters and behavior of humans and game play in general but maybe HFW will be even better and I'm waiting for game to arrive....a yes flowers have hidden codes written in positive haiku stile. We have luck and globally we have privilege to expirense this masterpiece especially PS4 players who played among first on this Planet because this Story telling on the next level .
The frozen wilds is a great preview of some improvements we should see

Guerrilla are absolute technical whizzes! Can’t wait for my collectors edition to arrive this Friday and fire up my PS5.
This game is a master class in open world design. It's not revolutionary but it takes a lot of yhe systems that work in other games and refines them to be the most entertaining version they can be so far.
It makes me think Guerilla took that Ubisoft formula and honed it down to the best parts and polished it all up with top notch stories and characters.
I absolutely cannot wait to see a third entry in the Horizon series.

It looks so good, like CGI! Another reason why I loved HZD were the objective markers - - most games I play I easily get lost trying to reach the objective but HZD has the option to really tell you where to go. Best of all, for an open-world game, I get to go where I want and do what I want but when it's time for the main objective, it's so easy to get back on track.

I haven’t seen many reviewers spend much time on the dual sense features. How did you feel it was for you? Similar to Ghost, does the haptic feedback feel like your mount is galloping?
The biggest issue with consoles
Ah this was in my notes but I didnt have it in my review itself:
-triggers will change resistance when "prying" open doors and locked crates
-trigger haptics for different bows
That's about it though. No galloping haptic from what I remember.

This game looks gorgeous. I know this game has lots of quality and amazing gameplay with rich story. With that being said for me personally I never got into the first one. I don’t know what it is. Maybe I’m not into gameplay that focuses on ranger attacks. I was also a in your face melee/sword type of player when it came to action adventure rpg games. Maybe it’s also the machine aspect of the game. Idk. I wish I was more eager to play this because the game just looks beautiful. I guess you just can’t force yourself at times.
Tbf i was like you. Put off playing the first just cause i thought it was mostly ranged combat but while barebones, there is a melee option. In fact, most of the enemies can be taken on melee only if you want only needing to resort to the bow when you face the big bois. Ranged also becomes almost a given at higher difficulties but trust me, the games worth it. Thats why alot of us were hyped that they expanded on the melee aspect in this game tho

Man, it kinda sucks that the melee combat still isn’t that great. No wonder why Guerrilla Games only showed few clips of the melee combat in the gameplay trailers. I feel like they kinda knew it wasn’t that great so they didn’t show much of it, but I could be wrong. This was one of the things I was looking forward to the most & hoped they would really improve on. But it’s not a big deal I guess, the bread and butter of the game is the ranged combat after all.

Is it possible to Unlock all the Skills in 6 different skill trees the game provides you? or are we limited to unlock only certain skills, so that i can plan on saving the skill points
You can rank up endlessly it seems. Haven't reached a max rank yet and there's a TON of skill points to earn not just from ranking up, but for completing side activities and missions.
Once you have gotten used to the different spare combo mechanics it's awesome though

I mentioned this towards the end. I prefer resolution mode for this one. Performance looked too blurry for my taste and 30fps was just fine for this style of game

10:32 exactly what i didn't like in first game and hoped for improvements. Especially the weird upwards jumping even if you run and clunky movement related to deformed terrain or debris type objects

Never played a horizon game before, but a lot of the stuff you described seems similar to the newer assassin's creed games. Is it worth it to try to get a ps5 just for this game then?
I don't think this plays anything like assassin's creed personally, and this is coming from someone that has generally enjoyed the AC franchise. The focus is more on ranged combat here - with enemies that have lots of different specific weakpoints to target.
AC games are almost exclusively melee based, with the same "block, parry, attack" loop for every engagement.
@@Nick930 gotcha.. Although I disagree with ac games being exclusively melee. Building a completely ranged character is very viable in the recent games.
