  • PlayStation gave us Horizon Forbidden West to play before release, and here's our review: it's brilliant, but the BEST things are these little changes from Horizon Zero Dawn...
    Horizon Forbidden West comes to the PS4 and PS5 on the 18th February 2022.
    Forbidden West gameplay recorded pre-Day One patch.

    Ellen's frustrated scream is so relatable. I feel your pain. But what was almost as infuriating was actually hunting the goods to get the golden pack. What do you mean this fox doesn't have any skin?!?!

    • @Sableagle
      @Sableagle Před 2 lety +18

      _Lord of the Rings Online:_ kill and (automatically) skin dozens of Cun Annun, Wolves, Wargs, Boars and Bears, one particularly inconvenient Badger and an unlucky Stag; arrive in camp; meet NPC; sympathise with NPC about how cold it is up here and how nice it'd be to have some Warg hides to keep them warm; go back out to kill and (manually) skin a dozen more Wargs. I have a pack full of furs, skins and hides, sometimes two different hides and a skin from the same kill, and this guy wants a dozen of the _other_ outer layer of a warg?

      Me: Your fox pelt.
      Merchant: That poor animal. I can't use this pitiful excuse of a rag. I need a fox pelt in good condition.
      Me: Well, I mean all the weapons I use are meant to tear metal to pieces.
      Merchant: Most hunters use traps to catch fox.
      Me: [holds up a charred blackened pelt]
      Merchant: Cage trap.
      Me: Oh! huh. You sell cage traps?
      Merchant: The door is over there. Try not to break it on the way out.

      I got the golden pack right away as soon as it appears with the merchants and I had plenty of resources for it. The reason for that was I never used fast travel even once for about half of the game as I was clearing out all the campfires ignoring all the quests for some reason and killing and hoarding everything in the process :P

Or you could hold on to them till you needed those crafting resources. I don't remember exactly how much of those loot boxes you could hold on to but I never ran out of crafting resources. The stash thing is more convenient, that’s right.
    But in terms of world building it makes more sense to search for specific resources (like Medicine, Chillwater, Echo Shells etc.).
    At times it was a bit annoying but exciting for real battle preparations.
    Though the resources categories are very welcome.

    I am playing through Horizon Forbidden West now. And I have played both Zero Dawn and the DLC. I was so happy that they kept the skilltree you get with the DLC as an default in the new game. I was also shocked but very intruiqed by their new settings for skill trees.meaning that for example Warrior and Hunter skill tree was a seperate thing even if they are very similar. The spear fighting is so nice!! Love it that you can mix up your fighting stances now.
    Also I want to mention what you did not mention in the video "Better character physics". In Zero Dawn you did meet many interesting characters with their each own stories. But... when they talked in an an dialouge. Like for when you speak with the different characters in dialouge when Aloy is talking to them for more inel and background or even the side missions, they are like all standing there, barely moveing theor arms, their face do lack of emotion, and... they keep their odd eyecontact of stareing🤣(they did improove this in the DLC), while in Forbidden west.... oh god! Im so happy for that change aswell! More movement and more facial expressions that suits their levle of voice and tone and emotion. Like if it is an movie!

  • @SolaScientia
    @SolaScientia Před 2 lety

    The stash seems a welcome improvement since I quickly ran out of space in the brief bit I played of Zero Dawn. I like the changes to the Focus as well. I also found all the triangles for resources distracting and I'd often wander off gathering resources (or seeing if it was stuff I could pick up) and get side-tracked from whatever quest I was doing.
    I didn't mind walking that much in Zero Dawn, because the map is deceptive. I'd look at it and think about how far away a location was, but then getting there always took way less time than I thought. It's the same thing Kingdoms of Amalur does: make the map seem massive, but then it never takes as long as expected to travel.
    I'm waiting on getting the game, all that said. I never got far in Zero Dawn, because I felt bored and a bit overwhelmed at times. I loved the beginning, but that feeling started fading once Aloy was out on her own. As you mentioned, all the icons got distracting and overwhelming. The other issue was all the herds of machines. I felt like I wasn't going more than 50 yards without running into a herd that I needed to avoid or kill. I usually just ran/rode through them as fast as possible because I got sick of constantly fighting. I wanted to explore without constantly watching for machines. I get they're a main point of the game, but it felt tiresome after a while.
    I stopped playing when I got into the side quest that involved taking out 2 smaller camps before taking out the bigger camp at the stadium in the northeast of the map. The enemies always found me no matter how stealthy I thought I was being and I was always overwhelmed. I didn't have my mount with me, because I got sick of the mounts dying on me or needing repairs in order not to die. The people I was helping seemed basically useless for killing the enemies as well. I'd like to try to finish HZD, but it's not a game very high on my list right now. It's a game I want to love and one I did love at the start, but little things added up to the point that I uninstalled it to make room for others. Forbidden West looks very pretty indeed and I'm happy for those who are looking forward to it and who love Zero Dawn, but I'm waiting on it for now.

    The first thing I spent resources on in HZD was always inventory extensions so this new system is a very nice improvement! The fast travel thing confuses me a bit though. It's free but also costs travel packs? Or is it free as long as you're at a camp fire, but costs a travel pack if you're not? If so that seems a bit of a downgrade from having the gold travel pack, to be honest. I hope they'll have one so it'll be free 100% of the time again.

      If so alot more people would have enjoyed Hzd, there would be more structure in the game.
      You can focus on the game story.
      Insane you have to leave shit behind with value, because you need like 3 items to craft stuff, i came to a point, where i wanted to break the disc in half after killing a huge boss, findkig out i could not cary more stuff.

It’s all things that were previously unlockable being native or that can be explained with new gear or skills. “Why couldn’t the focus do this before?” Because Aloy was still learning how to use/program it. “Why can we do all the mount things from the get go?” Because they were unlocked in the last game. “How can she do all these attacks now?” She’s not an inexperienced teen anymore.
