As new dads, Ari and Zack are out to prove that putting children on motorcycles should be as normal and accepted as putting a baby on a bicycle or in a car. The guys have a series of tests, from the playground to the racetrack, to show their families and any other mother or father naysayers that motorbikes are the wave of the future.

True story! In 1993, when my son was 4 years old, I took him for a ride on my Suzuki dual sport. He was on back holding on for dear life as we were ripping along on top of a levee. We came upon an unexpected large sink hole covered by grass. At about 40 MPH I had no time to react, and the bike did an endo! My son rode my back all the way to the ground and through my entire face slide! I broke a coupe of fingers, but barely noticed my pain as I was immediately concerned about my son. No need to be concerned; he was giggling uncontrollably and said "do it again Daddy, do it again"! I of course gave him the warning as we limped the bike back home, "do not tell your mother or you'll never be allowed to ride with me again"! Telling mom was the very first thing he did when we got home!

As a father of a 15 year old girl who has never shown any interest in my motorcycles or ever wanted to watch MotoGP or WSBK with me, when she recently asked if I could take her out for a ride on my Scrambler 1200… well I immediately dug out my wife’s old riding gear and took her for a spin. We’ve since gone out a few other times and have had a blast. She’s been asking for me to teach her how to ride so perhaps a little 150cc dirt bike is in her future! Enjoy the time with your kiddos, as cliche as it sounds “they grow up so fast” is unfortunately very true.

So, in the 70’s and early 80’s my dad had a CB750 and I grew up on the back of it. My mom decided it would be a great idea to get a 50CC moped to ride to work. The only hang up was that she had to drop my baby brother off at the setter on the way. Dad installed a folding bicycle baby seat they already had from when older brother was a baby in the 60’s on it. Every morning she strapped him all bundled up on it with almost 20 year old plastic straps to ride the couple blocks behind her. The things they did back in the day.

I started with the boy last fall at 6. Full gear, a top box back rest and a cardo on his helmet for his stories and off we go. We can do about 50 minutes before we stop for a break and try to stay off the motorway. He loves it and well, so do I. Best art of my day is taking him to school and picking him up.

One of my very earliest memories was sitting between my dad and the tank of his Kawasaki G3SS and going back and forth to Grandpa's house through fields and dirt roads. I was probably 2 or 3 years old. I'm not sure how we got away with it, even back then, but it's definitely a special memory. This video reminded me of those days, silly as it is

As crazy as it seems, we got something like that in east germany when I was young.
The contraption was comprised of a small metal bow mounted to the handlebars and a pair of small footrests underneath the tank.
So the child basically sits on the tank (there was self made padding) and wrote this way.
I did it many times with my gramps and saw these contraptions on mopeds even to this day.

I dont remember how old I was when I first got to ride around on the back of my dad's Harley, but my kid was 5 when i first started taking him places on my bikes. Once he had his helmet he started out in front of me on my dual sport, a year later he rides on the back seat of my old bmw. Its been great for both of us. He has his own little dirtbike now (he's 7) and loves it. The only real downer is when some busy body comes up and tells you "Thats so dangerous, I cant believe blah blah blah".

I had a 1977 KZ650 (great bike) with a Vetter Windjammer fairing. I used to take my 3 yo nephew on it all the time, fairly long rides. He would sit up on the tank, behind the Windjammer, gripping the mirrors. He loved it!
Also, sometimes my sister would ride too, behind me, with her infant daughter snuggled between us, in a fabric carrier. (Don’t know what those things are called). So, we had four aboard! Sometimes got some strange looks from other motorists but seemed perfectly safe to us! This was in SW Oregon and sometimes San Jose, California.
