So we just got an insane amount of new lore. Apparently the Light emperor exists on the other side of Azeroth and he is the one that sent this Hallowfall expedition 15 years ago as he got a vision of the final battle between the light and the void in a place named Renilash. Anduin confirms this vision is the exact same he got in the cinematic.
Unexpectedly the humans were teleported to Beledar instead where they ended up trapped. Then when Sargeras' sword was plunged into Azeroth the light crystal shifted to darkness for the first time which might actually be the reason Sargeras decided to plunge the sword in the first place. The emperor is apparently very powerful and could be our ally, so let's take a look at what is this new information that we got as there is like a million and one new hints.

Will play on his Grandson who's father BTW was corrupted by the old gods threw Rag, Dagran who's also known as "Fenran/Fenrir" his Crown as the new King.
He either is an ally or we get a new Denathrus.
Or just Denathrius himself. He can transform. He already has agents that are Light forged or something like that, so he likely understands how the Light operates. Wouldn't be difficult for someone like him to tell them he's aware of a new land that is need of help and leads an army "to help" us.

I'm not as deep into the lore as you are, not by a huge margin, but I've read my fair share of books about Warcraft's story. And I really am wondering how the hell nobody, like NOBODY, would have talked about a missing continent or some such. I mean ... Neltharion when he was sane? Medivh? Kadghar? Thrall the World Shaman? I like what they're trying to do, but I just can't be conviced that nobody would have known about this.

I like the 3rd faction idea. It would be new and intrueging.
I think a third playable faction would cripple the game. Having a npc faction that isn’t horde or alliance would be pretty much the same thing we’ve had in all expansions. 🤷
@@anyroad5455 Why would it cripple the game? They've been leaning more and more into cross-faction gameplay. If anything, a third faction merely gives more player customization.
As much as i love the Emperor of Mankind in 40k and in general, as a concept, i just can't forget the true leader of the las Human kingdom of Azeroth, and he cannot be replaced. Varian Wrynn.
Definitely they are the enemy. There is no way they are doing twice the whole the light is evil storyline and with Turalyon it never made any sense apart from the head canons some put in him because x CZcamsr wanted to do a click bait video.
You have now, a new land to explore, fanatical whorsipping light empire across the sea with vast armies and those in Hallowfall who want to restablish a portal to Avaloren.
They will probably be allies in midnight but will turn to be a problem by The last Titan. No need to destroy an stabilised character like Turalyon changing his personality over some vague whispers.
In fact it will probably go down like this: the void invasion happens, Turalyon helps those in Hallowfall to restablish a connection to the empire in need for help and it turns out to be a bad decision in the long run, he is forced to abdicate and Anduin comes back to save the day and becomes the king once again. We will probably have to fight the emperor when we get to go to Avaloren.
Or Blizz is setting up lore in the background for the saga after World Soul.

They still hail from the eastern kingdoms. This new light empire is supposed to be comprised of some of the old Arathi humans as well as high elves that have been separated for centuries.
Or at least that's how I'm understanding the lore. It also appears that most are mixed half elves because of the co-mingling. This new group we meet down below are a part of this light empire.

It could just be an artistic choice to make these new humans black. As long as it's not preachy I think that's fine, I'd rather they create new characters and give them interesting stories than attempt a retcon.

I didn't really mean faction in the gameplay sense, more like a new empire not alligned with the Horde or the Alliance but light based.
The scourge, the Goblins, and Pandaria are technically 'third' factions already.
And it wouldn’t, if there was a new faction they could just pair anyone up with horde or alliance like they do now when they sometimes pair up one with the other when they don’t have enough players

Arena and Battleground Blitz are already cross faction, all casual PvP modes will probably become cross faction too in the near future, so adding a third faction in won't change much for PvP
As a paladin player I love the upcoming lore it's been a long time since we had them paladin vibes and I still want light anduin back and people don't talk about it much but I love the human lore

Chris Metzen is not an ambitious writer who uses genre fiction to tackle any of the big questions or explore themes.
Chris Metzen like simple, straightforward stories with simple, straightforward characters operating on simple, straightforward agendas. This is why Warcraft and Starcraft are just reskins of Warhammer Fantasy/40k.
For all the problematic complexity of the brand after he left, I actually enjoyed the WoW narrative team's guts in introducing moral complexity and 3-dimensional characters with questionable desires, motives, and actions.
Now that Metzen is back, is it any wonder we seems to be headed back to cribbing from narratively-simplistic, established properties? I just hope he didn't go on a retcon spree when they handed him back the reins and we actually see the resolution of the compelling complexity the narrative team worked so hard to establish.

Even the grand bastions of genre fiction like Dune and Lord of the Rings were themselves inspired by the Ring of the Nibelung, the Journey to the West, the Mahabarata, and all manner of Biblical and mythological literature.
Art is iterative, and being inspired by more contemporary works doesn't make them inherently lesser than those of more classical works.
Correlation may not be causation, but if one describes a horse it doesn't mean the listener won't imagine a zebra. The parallels that the Warcraft franchise has with Warhammer Fantasy are hard to ignore, regardless of alleged liscencing debacle. Besides, consumerist genre fiction and the fandoms that grown around them are like an ouroboros; eventually the fan reaction will get back to the source and influence its development.
