What they don't mention about his mission to kill the general is he was transported to a field by helicopter, and then crawled over 1,500 yards over four days and three nights
One thing that they didn't mention was that when he went to go kill the general he didn't go in a very well forested area because he knew that's where they would look for him instead he actually went on some grass lands
I don’t know if you can even find it but there is a game called “Vietcong” that takes place during Vietnam , it was amazing , you should try it
No sounds Dangerous
CJ'S COMIN FOR YA
Hathcock is a legend
Absolutely. Do what he did and let’s talk right? He “got some”!
One popular target competition where I live is called a fly shoot. You put a life size image of a fly on a piece of paper out at 200-300m on the range and attempt to hit it with a small rifle (.223 or less). You win by either hitting the fly or having the tightest grooping.
😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
Yeah, he had 93 confirmed kills, but mostly hundreds upon hundreds in reality. He’s a legend for the missions he pulled off solo, and taking his guys patrols and missions, especially when they were being hunted by the VC/NVA. Plus for what eventually got him sent home, how he saved the marines in the burning APC. And probably what led to his disease that ultimately took him, from all the damage from burns he received. When he was a shooting instructor after that, his scars would crack open and start bleeding, soaking his t shirt pretty well in blood, under his shooting jacket, but he kept in doing it and teaching new snipers, no one knew at the time that was happening. He’s a total hard charger.
I read his biography, trust me, this man is a true hero and legend. The Marine Corps Museum is very near Quantico, Virginia as well. If you make it back to the East coast it's worth a stop.
I enjoy the reactions, keep them coming.
Another good watch is Sniper Inside The Crosshairs. It covers some of his kills.
M2 50cal had a kit that gives it a regular trigger and it makes the m2 semi automatic they stopped producing them in the 70’s
63 hours without sleep. Still functional.
Carlos Hathcock, Marine Corps legend. You know the scene in Saving Private Ryan? Where the Sniper shoots the German sniper through the scope? That was inspired by what Carlos Hathcock did in Vietnam. And in reference to your service, in anti-piracy operations. Did you learn how to clear corridors/rooms on ships? Because that must have been a really intense training.
I remember that shot. Private Jackson took it in the movie.
Question: What do you do in the Royal Marines when you're not actually in deployment?
I love the idea of certain days being committed to certain topics!
Do what he did then- compared to what we have now. He was a natural hunter. He is The Legend. Absolutely!!
All of these stories are true. As the video said these kills had to be "confirmed" by an officer or they werent recorded. In his book White Feather he tells of many other amazing kills he had. Carlos was a natural born rifleman with the ability to place a bullet where he wanted it at extremely long ranges. The story of him going behind enemy lines and killing a General could be a book by itself. He crawled for 3 days to get within range and dropped him with a heart shot at 600 yards.
Question: If you were to create your own military show/game, what would be the setting, who would be the characters, and what are some possivle storylines?
Hathcock actually WASN'T the highest scoring USMC sniper in Vietnam. That title goes to Chuck Mawhinney, with 108 confirmed. And, yes, you can join all branches of the US military at 17, with parental approval.
Join at 17 IF you have graduated high school, Marines, Air Force, and Navy REQUIRE a High school diploma to sign up, and have since the 1980's Army you can still Enlist with G.E.D.
He also wasn't the 'greatest' sniper that ever lived, although he was close, the people that claim that are wrong.
@@annymoususer677 A high school diploma, OR, equivalent. I served 6 years as an FMF Corpsman, all I had was a GED. You need a higher ASVAB score. At the time I enlisted, it was a 31 with a diploma, 50 without, for the Navy.
Of course, this was in 1999, so, a lot may have changed in 20+ years.
Or with a court order...
Loved the video. Hathcock is a bit of a legend here in the States (and we're happy to have you and your ginger beard here). Dude is literally the reason why the .50 BMG rifle exists. To piggyback off what you said, I come from a family of combat veterans (was too chickenshit to join, myself) and most of them enlisted at around 17 but their training started at 18.
It's not hearsay - sometimes there are individuals that are beyond what you think.
You are such a positive guy. It makes you very present to watch. Great video man.
Read the book about him....
Marine Sniper
Really good book! In the book a Major from Artillery recognized White Feather on a plane and asked him why snipers are so special. The Major says with one pull from an Artillery gun many enemy dies....to which White Feather replies "yes but how many of the enemies did you look directly into the whites of their eyes before shooting"....true legendary badass!
Carlos Hathcock is a legend among Marines to this day and is still counted as one of the best marksmen in US military history.
For many years everyone believed Hathcock had the most confirmed kills but he's actually the second highest scoring sniper in the Marines. A sniper named Chuck Mawhinney actually had 103 confirmed to Hathcock's 93. After Mawhinney returned from Vietnam he just quietly settled back into civilian life and never said anything about his time in country. It wasn't until another sniper wrote a book and outed Mawhinney that anyone became aware of what he did while in Vietnam. He does not have the legendary stories of Hathcock such as the 2,500 yard shot, killing the Cobra by shooting him through his scope, or killing the general. One amazing story of Mawhinney's was what he calls his St Valentine's Day massacre. He along with his spotter were on a river bank at night watching for an NVA unit in the area. Instead of having his normal bolt action rifle Mawhinney had decided to take an M-14 equipped with a Starlight scope (first generation night vision and crude by today's standards). The NVA eventually appeared and started crossing the river. He let them all enter the river and in about 20 seconds he fired 14 (or 16 don't remember for sure) rounds and scored 14 (or 16) head shots. Mawhinney has aid he was never haunted by the kills he made but was haunted by the missed target because he feared that miss would result in American deaths.
Highly recommend the book Marine Sniper: 93 Confirmed Kills by Charles Henderson. It goes into even further detail on Carlos Hathcock's story. Still one of the finest sniper's who ever lived.
Never underestimate the awesomeness of The White Feather and his body count is closer to 300 than the 93 they credited him with
Hancock's shooting a sniper through his scope has been used in a number of movies including Sniper and Shooter.
Thanks for the post! Have a good one
I was a container ship engineer and can tell you it was always comforting knowing there were people out there making life uncomfortably interesting for pirates
Carlos is an Absolute legend n the Corp.
Question: do you have any form of PTSD or Trauma after being a Royal Marine?
He said "without proper sleep"...that doesn't mean no sleep.
(8:30) That was the inspiration for the "Barrett .50"
Gunny Hathcock was one of a kind, may he rest in peace. Will always be a legend
And no he’d go days with no sleep, or very little, he’d often only have some crackers and peanut butter on him, fast and easy to eat, he’d be coming in from a patrol, or mission, and one of his junior guys would be going out the wire, he’d make them go back in, and take their spot. He crawled for a couple miles total, over like 2 days, so he could kill a nva general in enemy territory and got out. Also used the M14 with the night vision scope or iron sights depending on the mission, him and his spotter held off a whole battalion, for quite awhile, lol. He is what legends are made of, the NVA had a huge bounty on his head.
Would love to hear about op cougar
4 days in a row without sleep, 1st day was bad about haziness, 2nd day, felt fine (somehow), 3rd day felt okay, 4th day, fell asleep without even knowing, waking up hours later and called my friend what happened
Thanks for answering my question
That indeed is the cure for PTSD, shark fishing... Wait WHAT?
I read several books on him, I’d say it’s fair to say he really had at least 300 kills at the lowest estimate, and possibly as many as 400
Omg a military Monday upload?!?!?! 😱
There’s no exaggeration in this. Carlos himself described this and more in an interview I recommend by John Plaster.
17 is the age for most branches in the US, however you do have to complete school if youre still going (I think)
You also have to have the consent of your legal guardian, in Carlos' case it would've been his grandparents.
US Navy 1980-1984, USS Fairfax County, LST-1193. Beirut, Lebanon. Gator Navy!!! OOH-RAH!!!
9:36 Carlos would actually agree with you on that. That’s why he was always insisting on 2 man teams, cause he personally experienced what you mentioned on multiple occasions. So not quite hearsay, they didn’t, afterall, say he never did hallucinate on those occasions.
When your enemy is so scared of you that they put a $30,000 bounty on you
Dude, white feather is insane, not sane like us
Carlos said he thought he had over 300 kills counting unconfirmed. I see no reason not to believe him.
It's hard and sad but he did try to disgruntled the boy to run away but instead he made the wrong decision
I haven't heard of this before really interested at the writing and the sniper that use to be there along time ago so that's cool and him explained he was rise with his other family that use take care of him and now he is one of these best snipers In the world
Question: when did you join the royal Marines?
there was a solder in ww2 who libberatated a town
I know I’m late but this guy just straight reminds me of Forest Gump. They both rescued multiple soldiers and both took up fishing
The model 70 is my favorite rifle.
I know your bias and I have mine. The US marine snipers are the best. They love their shsrpshooting history. Hathcock is a major part of that.
Military works out good since Memorial Day is on a monday and also towards of this month
There is a much better video available that goes into greater detail of his most famous take downs that really demonstrates why he is the legend he is. The lengths he went to in order to get the shots were incredible.
The 3 day mark without sleep is for sure the cut-off for being mentally fit. Lol
None of this story is exaggerated. All well documented.
This one you can find another video with him talking in it and telling his own stories
Question: Did you ever fire your rifle during the time you were protecting ships against pirates
Also on the topic of Vietnam. Operation popeye is pretty fascinating.
After you do a few games for sci-fi Saturday could you do survival Saturday or Survival Sunday if thats something you like playing? I know a lot that you might like. Like Generation Zero, because you can utilize guerrilla tactics to do hit and runs on enemies and its super cool.
6:42 thats is not the sniper. thats harry potter grown up, he has the lighting bolt scar on his forehead
its such a cool story, sad i never heard from it before this video
Question: Since you've gotten the Boogie Bus done, and you seem to like military history, will you go to Gettysburg at some point in the future?
8:20 WITH AN 8 TIMES SCOPE.
Every American marksman knows who Carlos Hathcok was....
If you read the book I think it's called 93 kills I've read it it's great and it tells the story of him taking on a whole Vietcong platoon with just him and his spotter berk
This was in saving private Ryan but a different war
“Royal Marines are the best snipers in the world”
*Chris Kyle enters the chat*
Read his book. All this is true and documented. Hancock is a Marine legend.
Should definitely look into macVsog
Did you have any encounters with pirates during your time in the marines?
I got a question Luke, during your deployment, did you have any confirmed kills?
Siege of jadotville for next military Monday, would love to see it, one of my favourite stories
November 23 is my sons. Lol
The Us military did a lot of homemade gear. Us mechanics would win(and sometimes stole)chopper miniguns from helicopter crew and fit them on logistic trucks
Fun Fact: that one scene from Saving Private Ryan with the american sniper shooting the German Sniper in the tower is based on this man.
That’s was I was thinking
The video: “the white feather was the most dangerous sniper of the Vietnam war”
Also the video at (4:21): BROWNING 50CAL WITH A SCOPE!?!
(Edit) i paused at the time stamp to type that comment, I thought it was an animation mistake but I guess not… 🤣😅
Yeah Ma Deuce with a scope is the reason why the Barret was invented in the first place funnily enough.
He was a legend. Vietnam was horrific. I would not have made it. Bottom line. He used a 50 caliber cannon as his rifle…Badass..You’re hilarious at the end…”He’s just chillin in the bush..Is that it? That’s it?” 😂Yep he’s chillin after dropping the general…He tried to spare that kids life but had no choice
❤❤❤
You should do the famous sniper white death aka simo hayha he leads the most kills in history and was iron sight sniper his whole career he’s very interesting simple histroy covered this story
Terror Tuesday since your in America now you should check out something about Waverly Hills Sanatorium
You should watch Carlos Hathcock's interview on youtube sometime on your own time... It's a really great video!
watch Vietnam in Hd or Ken Burns Vietnam documentary to learn more about Vietnam. both are completely made of real footage from the Vietnam War and has commentary from Veterans of the war.
Could you please react to some Irish history, particularly the Easter Rising. Very interesting topic
The best all documentaries from the Vietnam War is without a doubt “Ken Burn’s The Vietnam War” documentary, it tells you Everything from A-Z how when and why The War happened
Hey sir you should also react to the sniper who was called the white death. He was amazing too :)
I believe he already did.
What is your rank in the Royal Marines
You should try out Vietcong (2003) game, set in the Vietnam War. It was received well so maybe it will be fun
So we will get 3 videos a week.. nice
Hey Luke, If you ever get the time, check out the Sniper documentaries on History Vault. Carlos Hathcock is covered numerous times with personal accounts. There’s a total of 3 Sniper documentaries. I hope you check them out some day
Hey I love your videos and I would love if you could react to simple history Ramree Island.not to give to much away It’s about crocodiles in WW2. You will love it and I would love to see your reaction.
Try reacting to Finnish sniper Simo Häyhä, arguably the "best" (at least the most prolific) sniper of all time.
Would love to hear about your time deployed. Totally should dedicate a video of you reacting to a pirate video and compare to how it was for you
Question will you ever play hoi4 it has its original ww2 theme but it has modern day, stempunk, and ww1 mods
can you do a reaction video to oversimplified the pig war?
