    Thanks for the video! Look, I love the Meguiar's brand and enjoy using some of their products but this new Ceramic Spray Coating just doesn't motivate me to try it. No one (including myself) wants to spend that much time and effort "working" a product into a panel in hopes that it'll bond appropriately. That doesn't make for an enjoyable experience, regardless of the outcome. Because the truth of the matter is, you can get better performance for LESS work with other products. I know that Hybrid Paint Coating is discontinued but this didn't take much effort to apply and wipe off. Slickness was insane. Beading was insane. And longevity was fantastic. For me, I like simple, easy and effective without the stress of finicky application methods.

      No argument from me about use case, this is a product that needs a certain environment and application to perform well. As meguiars have said, they consider it to be a true coating, not a spray coating which is why the application is not as straight forward like the packaging would imply. I will say that after applying it, I don’t find it to be that intimidating, especially when compared to other true ceramic coatings. If I had to choose between the application of this vs. Cquartz lite, I would take this based on my experience. Easy to spread and work (maybe I made it look harder than it is, my bad), and once you work in and breakdown the product, its wipe off is great. Whether or not it will last like Cquartz lite is another story, but if it does, I could see myself adopting this into my routine. I do think that they should have released this under their professional lineup though, as an entry level version of M888 as it does need be handled and applied like a professional product.
      Depending on the cost factor, I would encourage those with the setup required to apply this product to give it a try, once we have a better durability estimate. I plan on revisiting this product later on when temperatures are better and I can get it into sunlight to help curing to see if there is any more performance to be gained.

    I have found Meguires Ultimate compound and Ultimate polish to work well for being available locally when im not using 3D 500 and 520. I also like Meguires liquid ceramic wax and have had it last for 12 months by using their ceramic detailer after maintenance washes. I will try this though

      I don’t use any top up products during my real world durability tests as I want to see when the base product fails. I understand with coatings there is a trade off in slickness without top ups some times, but I want to see baseline performance.

    I found that it was just super important to apply this to bare paint. Yes I know that it's the general rule for almost all LSP's, but this one was super crazy picky to make sure you do it. I've used other products that were applied on top of other ones and they held up alright as it bonded decently. But this one, it truly will only bond well to paint.

    • @sheepstardetail
      @sheepstardetail  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Which of you think about it, lends more weight to meguiars saying it’s a proper true coating that can be sprayed. I will say that my paint was bare in both applications, as Cquartz lite bonded no problem first attempt. That supports the other half of it being improper application.

      @@sheepstardetail That's a good point. Honestly I think Meguiar's is going to have a tough time with this product in the market. Because most average consumers will assume it's just another spray and wipe. A lot of them won't even prep the paint, let alone wipe until residue is completely gone.
      I wouldn't be surprised if this ends up being discontinued like the Hybrid paint coating (which was an excellent product) but the average joe simply did not understand what it was, and how best to apply it.

    I applied it after a wash and did not strip the car down or polish. Car is well taken care of. I sprayed it on the paint which was not bare, but was due for some product and then did use an applicator to spread it out. Was a little tougher to wipe off than some others, but no big deal. The result is very good water behavior and it blows off with ease completely dry. It is also much slicker after the wash than when you apply it. I did let it cure for about 24 to 48 hours before getting wet.

    • @sheepstardetail
      @sheepstardetail  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Besides the temperature requirements, application is actually quite easy. It applies and spreads nicely, and once you buff it down (which doesn’t take quite as long as I showed here, I just had a bit more residue than a normal panel size would have) the flip and wipe off is quite nice. The really troublesome thing is the temps, some people don’t have indoor working environments.
      Also, we don’t yet know the long term performance for this products, so it could be a legit solid 6months which isn’t bad overall.

    • @sheepstardetail
      @sheepstardetail  Před 3 měsíci +1

      They released a video a couple weeks ago showing the application process, basically you need to buff it until the residue is nearly gone. Because I’m working in a small test area, that meant a couple more passes as one spray could have done a larger area.

      You do the same process as most sprays, but you have to wipe it in very thoroughly until the residue is basically gone. It needs to be worked in almost like a polish. If you don’t the curing process doesn’t start as the part that needs to be exposed to air stays encapsulated and rinses right off.

I almost feel like with using a microfiber cloth and all that buffing...too much product is going back into the cloth because the product isnt strong enough to adhere to the car in a clear state...hence, with the buffing required to make it clear it is being taken off the car.
