    Great review. I have several Epic Encounters sets and most of the Local Legends Encounters. I'd been holding off on this one due to the uninteresting miniatures but after seeing them painted up and the description of the encounter book, I am very interested in picking this one up now. I agree that the Local Legend books need to have more information on scaling the adventures (they even mention that they are included in the book which appears to be a copy/paste issue from other products). Thanks for posting and looking forward to more of your Epic Encounter reviews in the future.

      It's a shame about the copy paste error regarding the inclusion of scaling rules. I noticed it straight away when I reviewed the Ghost Pirate set previously and it was a bit of a head-scratching moment when the rules weren't there!
      I'm getting quite a collection of these now. They are really good, and I've got some really lovely Epic Encounters sets coming up on the channel too.

    I feel like these local legends sets/stories could fairly easily be converted to excellent HeroQuest mini adventures. Maybe 5 to 7 Quest arcs? I might have to pick this one up and give it a try!

      The bigger Epic Encounters sets - like the gnoll pack I featured previously - would be really good for HeroQuest adventures, as you get a wide variety of enemies and bigger books with lots more ideas packed in.

    this encounter look nice, but I have to agree, the box with the mini's they could included more. Seems like kind of a waste of space. What a shame. I would purchase one of these encounter box if they included tiled maps in stead of paper. Seems like the paper maps would get ruined easy with some water or opening it the wrong way. The adventure seems interesting and I like that they include advice for the encounter to make it more interesting. I really like the will-o-wisp, those little cute balls of ghostly fire remind me of the little mushroom guys from princess mononoke, I wonder if will-o-wisp make the little the clicking sound like the mushroom guys.

      I am not a big fan of paper maps, but the ones in these encounter sets are quite thick and not easy to damage or tear while opening them. They are also nicely illustrated. I have a sheet of perspex (from an old poster frame) that I lay over the top of maps like this. Keeps them flat, avoids damage from spills, and lets you scribble on them with dry-erase pens.
      I have another Local Legends set coming up on the channel that makes much better use of the window box. Same number of miniatures as this set, but they fill the window completely and it looks great. I think the Night Hag would have been well served by reducing the window size and adding a picture to the front.

      @@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring OOOO Tthe perspex is a good idea, would of never of thought that haha. Thank you for sharing that, I will give that a try when I get my encounter box. I look forward to watching your next local legends review, I'm liking the idea of these boxes and might expand mine when with some of my other fixings and terrians I have made over the years.

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring

      I think they are really cool, little self-contained encounters that could easily be expanded on. I could definitely see Marshina being a big bad guy or recurring villain in a more expansive story. I do really enjoy how each of these villains is tied to a different tavern; I think that's very interesting.

    Great review as always! 👍 I find the shrooms on her back really weird though, they’re too big and I don’t associate night hags with that concept at all. Then again I have no interest in this product either way, so my opinion doesn’t really matter 😂

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  Před měsícem +2

      While they don't bother me, and I think they add to a surreal sense of otherworldly decay combined with magical growth, I think they would be quite easy to snip off if people wanted to.

      @@AlwaysBoardNeverBoring Definitely a fair point, but I would probably snip them off. And I think that would work, no problem, like you say. Also, I absolutely love that you added the Monty Python clips 👏😂

    • @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring
      @AlwaysBoardNeverBoring  Před měsícem +2

      Ha. I know a lot of people use the Epic Encounters sets for HeroQuest. Not necessarily the Local Legends boxes (although they are good for bosses), but sets like the Gnoll pack I reviewed on the channel previously (and two more sets I will be showcasing on the channel soon). There are Epic Encounter sets for orcs and goblins which you can drop straight into HeroQuest as variant enemies - archers, spearmen, mounted enemies, and so on.

      Fortunately, the multiverse thing is only briefly mentioned and isn't integral to the encounter at all. You can easily ignore it.
