    I love Flats, but I can fully understand how he's not everyone's cup of tea. My favourite comment of his this game came at the end of the first period, after Danny Care unsuccessfully tried to chip the ball to himself:
    "He's got the skill to do it, but what I think happened in the end, was that his shorts were so tight, he couldn't quite pull it off. He's got the tightest shorts in Europe. [...] Tried to chip it up to his own hands, that would have been incredibly naughty, but yeah - shorts too tight. He's got his son's shorts on. [...] Look at those shorts. Lovely set of legs inside them, I don't doubt that, I just wonder if he gets any blood to his feet."

    As soon as Bath went for three against Quins, who you know are going to score tries, it was over.
    At every coaches job interview the first question should be " Do you think you can win a game without scoring tries" the ones who say yes should be immediately shown the door.

      @karlosdeevs Před 2 lety

      @@commentarytalk1446 What the heck are you on son, to call the most successful team in the world of sport just 'considerable'. League's level is no where near the skill set of the maori All Blacks as they would never be content to a simple roll back the ball, hit the iron clad & kick if everything else goes waining. But yes, very typical of the motormouth league fan come to big up the one-country cause of a game that in a nutshell just runs into walls all day long..

    • @commentarytalk1446
      @commentarytalk1446 Před 2 lety

      @@karlosdeevs As much as I am an admirer of the "Righteous Brothers" skit we're administering here - I did say it's "Apples and Oranges" because the two sports are not the same sport and hence comparisons are limited. Be that as it may "On Yer 'Ed Me Son!": I think the core skill sets of NRL players is overall higher in passing/catching, offloading, tackling, tactics and fitness too.
      As for describing each game: Union takes on more of the rules League already has the longer it is professional. That says something. Not sure what about Union. Also in terms of spectacle: A good Union game is hard to beat but on average I'd argue NRL is better spectacle than average Union game because Union often gets bogged down in dull grind and kicking back and forth or box kick. It also suffers from undue interpretation of the ref as well as the rules are naturally interpretative (as all rules are but more so Union).

    • @karlosdeevs
      @karlosdeevs Před 2 lety +1

      @@commentarytalk1446 It is true the whole 'passing-offloading-tackling' is higher when options outside that variant are scant few and yes fitness is overall slightly higher because like in the army it's a more basic forward-ground/defensive thinking manifesto which makes all bodies from 1-13 look almost the same (fitness block-rocks etc.) Whilst in the skills department it's union that's slightly ahead, not just body vault efforts but more serval-like offloading & stepping (there's two for every one Kalyn Ponga out there). In rules you're right as well because having turned pro so early: league has had the necessity to evolved it's rules faster, union would do too but never to such a game-changing extent. Just as in rucking, league would cut the corner whilst union would take the longer road/approach and also not be urged to such measures 'till the 90s. Arguably the points system is the only thing union shook up significantly. Truth lights the way here again when ya said a good union game is hard and i'll confess not much more than 20% of games meet the 'good game' standards in union, but only if you're someone who's adament on spotting a good game eg. if one like urself hails from outside it. The secret is that the core support of union garner some-what of a fascination for what happens in that 70-something percent of gameplay of grit, grind & 20+ phases. It spawns a unique tensely watched atmosphere and a connection between spectators and players (a bit like if you imagined a movie-styled medieval war). But anyway that was a little too depthy, and hell if people beyond me understand my words. I'll wrap things by saying the depth of unions rules have a profound impact on how referees are seen, some see it as a mess and that refs are left to try picking up the pieces & muck it up even worse. But that reflects the whole jive about union being up for interpretation and that refs can only understand and blow the whistle based on intuition. However things go, i just see them as ppl like you or me who do their upmost in order to rule things to the letter of the law. And that complaining & scrutinising is easy, maybe easier than other sports out there. Maybe that reflects ur point on union being less interpretive than maybz any other sport in the world. Right that's all, i think i'm breaking my own record of commentary length. I'm sorry for being the superficial prick back there, just my snap-fire reaction to odd throwaway comments -I'll just write essays and quote rule guides from now on. Lastly, in terms of comparing to fruits I wouldn't say we're apples & oranges, more like if two main kinds of apple existed that would defo cut it. No i see it more as two hemispheres of the apple battling it out for best -only 1 might have to bite the dirt and embrace the pear in the near future. Alright take care, man.
