  • In this video I tackle one of my favourite cars, a MK3 Volkswagen Golf GTI! It's a bit rusty and neglected but it's a lovely car and it deserves some love.

    Your best video yet, IMHO!

What is it about this one that makes it better, in your opinion? Feedback always helps for the future content 👍♥️

Supercharged Llama I think the fact that the before and after is a major difference, and you’re using things that are new to me (clay mitt)

    • @SuperchargedLlama

@@TheRealRussellSmith that's good to know! The clay mitt is something I like because it's effective and less aggressive than a clay bar, leaving less marring in the clear coat.
Clay bars probably remove even more surface contamination but I'd only use them when polishing. I thought I could get away with the autoglym SRP on this one so I was trying to inflict as little extra damage as possible (I know this seems kinda moot with the rust hole and flaking clear).
Great comparison of the types of claying products available in this video by forensic detailing: czcams.com/video/NzjpH9FGE2E/video.html

Definitely a decent turn round! Given the general condition I think you got a lot out of that 👍🏻

Thank you! And that colour, why did VW retire it? That'd be so popular if they sold a GTi in that colour now.

@@SuperchargedLlama Definitely! Once the metallic came back through it was lovely

The sun coming out the next day made it really buzz. That was a proper "stand back and admire your work" moment.

Great work! I personally prefer to see this type of 'lesser loved' car being shown some attention (as opposed to a supercar getting its 5th coat of ceramic this year) - It makes for a more satisfying video i feel! Also - Dragon Green is an awesome colour to work with - like most deep metallics, its very rewarding when approached in the right way. Keep up the good work!

Cheers dude! It really is an amazing colour, such a shame that VW don't use it anymore, the MK8 in this colour would look amazing I think, although it does make you appreciate this even more I guess.
What was nice on this one was that apart from the front end being a tad rotted out, the back is absolutely solid, no leaks around the rear clusters etc, no rust around there at all, and the sunroof seems to be absolutely solid in terms of drainage (yeah the seal could do with replacing but it's functional and effective). Just a shame about the rust hole in the door.

@@SuperchargedLlama There's a dragon green VR6 being broken on ebay at the moment. The drivers door is going cheap.... £10! It's bare but you could easily swap all the ancillaries over I'm sure. If you're interested the item number is : 274506387038

@@SuperchargedLlama my workshop diary is full right now I'm afraid! Lots of projects on the go and lots of content to shoot! That being said I'm sure you won't struggle to sell that. The MK3, although seen by some as something of a blight on the 'GTi' badge, is in fact a very interesting modern classic and certainly in my opinion one to watch. When did you last see a clean one 'in the wild'?!

    • @SuperchargedLlama
      @SuperchargedLlama  Před 3 lety

I don't think I have ever seen a clean one in the last few years, they are really underappreciated I think, drive so much better than the MK2 (although not as pretty that's for sure).

But what about that big fat rust spot on the driver's door? Needs treatment asap!

I needs a new door really I think. It had a good shell overall which is brilliant. Sorry for the delay replying 👍

Wasn't that spot on the drivers door that you noticed was it? I thought I'd gotten away with it ;-)
