- Oktavist and basso profondo soloist John Sutko performs this classic Russian song with the Konevets Quartet, down to G1.
Recorded in the St. Peter & St. Paul Orthodox Church, Burr Ridge, IL , October 1, 2016 - Hudba
2:35 has such an amazing “fat” sound resonance!
Memory Eternal John! I had the privilege of singing with John during the 125th anniversary of Orthodoxy in Chicago. A beautiful person with a special talent he cultivated diligently and he reminded me of what it may have been like to sing with someone like Zlatopolsky in his prime years. No exaggeration whatsoever as his voice covered the entire choir.

A voice so dark and resonant it radiates light.
His timbre is amazing.
What a legend. Eternal memory.
Has he passed away?
@@szymongorczynski7621 Afraid so.
Unbelievable chest resonance. Beautiful dark basso profondo.
Such a pure tone! That's amazing!
Excellent performance. Rest In Peace, John! ☦️
It was always the most glorious gift hearing his voice serving in the alter every Sunday. He is truly remarkable
Bless you! I saw a video on this guy some years ago but I completely forgot his name and haven't been able to follow up. Now I won't forget: John Sutko!
What an easily powerful voice!!!
at 3:43 he doesnt seem to be singing, yet there are some beautiful bass notes that to my ear sound profundo-like? These guys are amazing
Yea the bass of that group is not bad himself. Not an oktavist, but basses with pleasant upper registers are always wonderful, sometimes even preferable. Cesare Sieppi is my favorite bass period, and he rarely sang super low.
Who was it?
@@fxbigtoelilzoui1696the guy in the blue. There’s a couple videos out there of this group in practice and the man in the blue is coaching John on the melody.
Merci beaucoup à tous les 5 ! Merci pour ces vibrations puissantes et douces qui touchent mon âme !
I'm Weeping! Had the pleasure of singing with Prof Dutko at many FROC conferences.
Wow! What resonance and presence on the low notes.
Wonderfull voices, and the basso - excelente,
Privilégio em ouvir tão bela voz..!!!
Saudades eternas caro John ...!!
Legendary!
Wow! Just wow!
bez toho WOW Just WOW što to jest ?
I can sing the low notes except the last note but there is no way I can get the resonance of this soloist.
Превосходно !!!!!
My fave of all time. May cure me of long Covid.
A fine musical Bass.
Boa...how do Russian men sing like this?
That final note! Ooooh that hits you. What is that E1?
G1
@@190averagebowler9 I can sing both. I love the contra-octave.
I can sing three octaves below him , but I choose not to.
@@jerryking45sure buddy.
@Basssinger15 I phoneate and I break glass.
So what this shows me is the costumes used by Dschinghis Khan aren't so far off
Which church is this?

First
Of course he was an amazing voice but I'm sad i had to tell you that this has nothing to do with orthodox liturgical chanting. That is an opera not Byzantine music which is the orthodox liturgical music. If anyone wants to hear a real orthodox liturgy try panagiotis neoxoritis the best psaltis at the moment.
Bas staat met papier voor zijn gezicht.
Couldn"t he learn the text and melody by heart ?? This is so disturbing !!
