I’m an Englishman that came to America in 1978 and can honestly say that I listen to Phyllis at least 6-8 times per month for the last 20 years. I’m so sad you were so sad that you hurt yourself. Your voice will live with me forever.
Knowing most of the sick things that is happening and have happened in the music industry, I am not quick to believe it, when they report the death of a celebrity. It may/may not be a sacrificial death....they may be sacrificed, bc they refuse to conform.
The most stunning women at her height... that ever grace the stage was Phyillis Hyman that she was gorgeous... and could sing you out of anything!! Queen!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Because the music industry drives people crazy. No matter how many records no matter how many hits. And when you fight back you’re known as difficult. And you better look the same as your first album don’t lose those looks and stay skinny. She sought help got on her meds that cause weight gain. By then they were into other artists. Record companies move on that’s why artists of today don’t stand a chance. Pressure to pump out music in seconds. Not saying these artists don’t have issues prior BUT the music industry will put a hurting on your mental health.
I remember listening to WBLS while I was at work and they announced that she had taken her own life. It broke my heart. STILL listening in 2024 but my heart is still broken.
I didn't understand at age 17 why I loved this song so much, why it resonated so strongly and uplifted me, Even though I hadn't really lived or loved yet, I think my soul responded to her beautiful soul and all of her talent and charisma. She should have been a massive superstar, if success happened purely because of talent and heart! Rest in bliss, Queen.
@@vincentruvo6988 you are absolutely right. The singers in the past really could sing and had marvelous voices. Today, many of them are basically using some equipment to distort their voices and that's all. They have no singing voices.
@@pretorious700 don't agree. This was a huge floor filler in underground soul clubs in the late seventies in the UK.
