    Rand,
Thanks to you and your brother for inventing my childhood. I was obsessed with MYST as a kid, and now as an adult, I played it randomized and had a BALL. The game still retains its strange magic. Thank you for all the hard work, the struggles, and jumping the hurdles back in the day. One of the greatest games of all time.

My grandfather showed Myst to me when I was a teenager. I've since played every iteration of Myst, as well as all the sequels. I am mostly happy with the way this remaster has turned out. However, my biggest gripe is with the lighting/art direction of Myst island itself. It's really a massive departure from the atmosphere and color palette of the original (plus past remasterings). It seems too bright/hot or even washed out. The assets are really wonderful, and I'm wondering if this can be resolved in an update down the road. And obligatory, more trees!

The Great Rand Miller! I can't Wait for Firmament! I Must say though that playing this new one, seeing those cartoon Atrus and sons was Heartbreaking to me. It was like an affront to my childhood. So I immediately went to Reddit to see if someone had already fixed this issue and sure enough, someone already had a link to the iconic original live action vids which I promptly installed and was THRILLEd to once again have Rand and Robyn as Atrus, Sirrus and Achenar. Without a doubt the ONLY way to play Myst!

I just played a couple of days ago and I like some of the changes. I played the original when it first came out and immediately saw the changes. I think the new version is easier to understand what you are doing and how to solve the puzzles. It only took me one session to finish this time 30 years later and I loved it. I am now going to try the VR version and randomize the puzzles.

Stoneship should have rain come in if you stay in it long enough. Rain just seems to go with the ocean and pirate ships lol, but it could be an achievement, like the rain is hidden so only certain people who stay long enough get to see it? I think rain would be unbelievably beautiful, especially in VR, and lightning would look amazing in those clouds. Just an idea lol I do love the epic sunset! Heck, maybe different ages have different timelines, so seasons pass faster in some? Lol

Keep in mind, this game is identical to the original Myst in an important way, BOTH games pushed the limits of modern technology for their day. You cannot fault the original, it done what this one is doing, and you had to grow up playing older games back then to really appreciate what the original Myst brought us, just as I appreciate what THIS version brings to the table. Great work, it stays faithful to the original from the looks of it.

One of my favorites. The original MYST on the PC was the most immersive game I've ever played. I also loved the original Shadowgate game for the NES. Developed by ICOM Simulations, Inc. The thing I miss most from the original Myst is the library elevator rotating at the halfway point. Especially in combination with the tower rotating, really helped give the immersion that it had to rotate to line up with the shaft, since the *entire* upper part of the library was rotating. I see how it got explained/shown with VR, but there was that bit of nostalgia, and kid me really wanted that rotating elevator for himself.

That was amazing! Thank you so much. 🥰 - I've been an explorer of the Ages of D'ni for 22 years myself. This version of Myst! I can hardly wait to try it in VR. Everything looks amazing, but The Nixie tube like displays in the garden I agree are super cool. I have since used vacuum tubes in my own sculptures since my teenage years - Nixie tubes have made a resurgence in the last few years but yet to utilize them in my own work. People are doing amazing things with them! The gears with the plants growing through them in The Mechanical Age also 👌 - the oscillating crystals ! I feel like those of us who have Loved Cyan games since out earliest years are part of a special club or group of like minded explorers. Kindred spirits ! The higher resolution and all the exquisite detail I think make the excruciatingly delicious feelings of hiraeth, saudade, and fernweh of the D'ni Ages even stronger. Very well done!

You made a mistake in Stoneship - you have multiple elements in the water and a 'rough-ish' sea yet when you look down you can only hear the water crashing against a single object, there needs to be multiple background random waves crashing at different intervals and time lengths for big waves and little waves. Think 'background sea noise added behind the louder/closer elements'. Otherwise loving the playthrough and all the mods :)

I am so psyched to have found you guys on youtube! I was about 6 years old when we got Myst. I mostly watched my Dad and older sister play it, or I would play around on Myst island and then bug them to do the puzzles for me so I could explore the other worlds. Channelwood I could get to by myself because I knew the code, hehe. Riven was fun, too, although both Myst and Riven scared me a little bit when I was a kid. The puzzles were mostly too hard for me to do on my own, but I loved exploring, and I loved all of the animals in Riven! Especially the sunners and the wark. I used to love to bait the frog trap and just catch frogs over and over for fun. And I loved calling the wark! I still remember how much I jumped the first time we tried calling him four times in a row, hehe. A couple of years ago, my Dad and I worked together to play a little bit of Odbuction. It was so cool to see a whole new world made by the creators of Myst! I kept telling my Dad to stop what he was doing and take the time to read the books that had lore in them, but he was like, "No, I want to go and look at this thing over here," and I'd be like, "Dad, you need to read that, it has important stuff in it!" xD Thank you guys so much for all of the love and hard work that you have put into these games! I would love so much to see you guys do more "let's play" videos! Honestly, I would love to watch a whole series of you guys playing Myst, Riven, Exile, etc. Much love from a lifelong fan, and keep up the good work!

I read some reviews from people saying the new version is just prettier graphics and the game is the same, which may turn people off and is unfortunate. But when you actually play it, it just goes up to a new level. All the little changes here and there, it is really something else. The channelwood entrance at the bottom of the tree on Myst island is super nice. The safe with the igniter knob, all the little changes all over, it feels more modern and with our present technology. And the graphics are something else. So crisp and amazing to see, really cutting edge. The atmosphere and everything is very well done. Eager to see how it gets improved upon over time. Hoping to see some add-ons or more ages, or a post-game added on after you finish the main story. Really job well done Cyan and Rand!

It makes sense that some of the sound effects had to change, because the physical mechanisms they correspond to changed (the tower rotation map). There are other sound changes that weren't obligatory in that way, but that I find to be improvements, like using a different sound for the Channelwood pipes than for the running water of the Selenitic oasis. But there are also cases where sound effects are new for reasons that aren't obvious to me, and where I miss the old ones. The marker switch flipping sound is one.

As a MYST fan, when I was a teen, I have always seen a video in my mind of Rand being Atrus playing through every updated myst and hearing his reaction about the newest stuff. Most entertaining. This got pretty close and was very delightful. Everything is definitely amazing. I love the steampunk updates, that makes so much more sense for Atrus as well. I agree on that. This is going to be fun to play! Also love the detail on the nature scenes. . The crystals are beautiful! Beautiful work! I can't wait till I get to play this in VR once I have a new pc. My Mom and I have been obsessed MYST fans since the year Myst first came out. I was only 10 at the time, grew up with it and still looking for other worlds since. (grin). It would be fun to actually see Rand be Atrus playing the game next, although he would probably hate it since that mysterious voice at the beginning of the game bothers him. LOL! I bet lots of us fans would pay to see that though. Thanks for the fun and great job on the beautiful artwork and updates! I really enjoyed the gameplay and your thoughts. Best video of the month!

After really enjoying this on the Oculus Quest 2, I’m gonna play it flat on my Series X tonight, in 4K! All I’m hoping for in the future is a re-release of the original Myst as it was on the original Mac, with all those finely tuned transitions between the images. Myst: Masterpiece Edition doesn’t cut it in terms of preserving the original Myst experience.

I was not expecting a Mythbusters reference in a play session of Myst.

Will you consider patching in a "rainy" Stoneship age in the future? Though I love the new iteration, I would love to maybe be able to switch to a rainy version sometimes...

I kinda wish every time you enter a zone after the first time there could be a random weather pattern to shake things up

Channelwood was my favorite age in Myst. Now get to work on giving Myst Exile the same treatment. I want to play all the Myst games in VR.

I don't recall me noticing that that button in the map was actually a diorama of some device on the peak of the mountain behind the library 😮

7:45 Wooden steps like that are actually very common in state parks in Ohio (Hocking Hills especially, although there are many other examples).
    Thank you for this video!

Yes but they would only be used as steps and not as a walkway when the ground levels out. At least that’s my experience.

It's interesting to see how far technology has come since the original Myst. I wonder what is the next step after VR? Will someone build an actual Myst island?

I don't know about anyone else, but I would love to have the day/night cycle to be included in this version. And I'm hoping Riven will turn out to be even more epic than this. You guys did such a wonderful job on rebuilding it. Gotta say though, I don't really feel that the bluish hue in Selenetic really fits the 'devestated world' feel.
I don't think I actually got to play Myst until after the turn of the millennium and one of the updated versions came out. I started playing Riven as a kid, when it came out with that gorgeous CD case, which I still have. I just wanted to play around with the rides, and push through as quickly as I could. These days, I love taking my time, but even then, I still go through the game far too quickly.

cyan worlds should hop into vrchat sometime. Id have to say it was myst that made me have interest in the whole concept of travelng through virtual worlds. My first vr game was obduction. i loved it so much. I hang out with people in vrchat . it seems that vrchat is a hub for artists, developers and musicians. Its like people who come from all walks of life and different companies come there to have a common gathering to share ideas and concepts outside to push vr. I personally have been using vr for a method of motion capture and creating films with animators. Im excited to see where unreal 5 will take vr. unity is good for an engine but i am interested in what is next. I greatly look forward to what ever this game studio comes out with next.
